Speaking of New Leadership…
Senator Robert Marshall is one of thirty million people who have announced that they are running for Mayor of Wilmington, yet only to lose to Paul Calistro.
That might mean that he will not be running for reelection to the Senate in the 3rd District. (He can always change his mind and run for reelection). But, if he does, he will be facing a primary.
Christina School Board president Eric M. Anderson announced today his intent to participate in the 2012 Democratic Party primary for Delaware State Senate District 3. […] A graduate of William Penn High School and the University of Delaware, Anderson is a math teacher at the Charter School of Wilmington. His term on the Christina School Board runs until 2015.
New and younger leadership is good for Democrats too, and I commend Mr. Anderson for throwing his hat in the ring. I look forward to hearing more about him and his ideas. You can follow him on Twitter here.
The article that you point to here, DD, talks about the Mayoral primary — do you have more info on who else might be running for the 3rd?
Indeed, Cassandra. The article starts off with Anderson’s announcement about the 3rd SD, and then veers off the rails to the Mayoral primary. I would have liked to hear more about Anderson and other possible opponents in the 3rd SD primary. So far, I believe Anderson is the only announced candidate. If Marshall is really out and running for Mayor, then I suspect more will run (and maybe more have already announced and I missed it).

Very interesting development. I’d once considered running for the 3rd Senate simply as a means to screw with Marshall, but I’m now much less interested at this point in my life.
Marshall announced more than a year ago. He definitely told the Senate Dem Caucus he was out more than a year ago. No one has actually observed Marshall running for anything, however.
A progressive, and good looking, Democrat. Just what we need. Or is he progressive? LSD would like to know.
Well, looks to me like Sen. Marshall can’t make up his mind to run for something, or to retire.
While he indeed said that he wasn’t running for State Senate more than a year ago, the redistricting plan, inexplicably to me, left him with more or less his current district when, in fact, Wilmington really only had enough population to justify two districts. And Harris McDowell said, presumably with a straight face, that Marshall has the right to have a district in which to run. Which means Marshall’s at least thought about changing his mind
As a result, Harris McDowell, who reallyreallyreally should be primaried, goes up through Claymont to the state line. A joke.
The subtext for these races is also the race for Senate leadership.
Accordingly, I have one question for Mr. Anderson and for everyone else running as D’s for the Senate next year: Which side are you on, DeLuca’s side or the people’s side?
As for the mayor’s race, I’m not sure that Kevin Kelley would be running hard if he thought that Marshall was going to run. They share the same base.
Eric is a great young talent and I encourage folks to get to know him and consider supporting him!
