PDD to host panel on State Budget Process
Tomorrow, at their monthly meeting, the Progressive Democrats for Delaware will be hosting a panel on the state budget process. The guests expected on the panel will be:
- State Representative Dennis P. Williams
- State Representative James “JJ” Johnson
- Office of Management and Budget Director Anne Visalli
- DEFAC member Bob Byrd.
The meeting starts at 7 pm, and will be held at the Democratic Party Headquarters, 19 E. Commons Blvd., New Castle, DE. The Progressive Democrats for Delaware is a grassroots Liberal action group pledged to support a wide range of progressive legislation and candidates at the local, state, and federal levels. PDD meetings are open to all like-minded voters.

I will say that when I think of Bobby Byrd, the first thing that comes to mind isn’t DEFAC.

Bob Byrd grew up in Wilmington, Delaware and attended Troy University (AL) and the University of Delaware. In 1974, at the age of 25, he was elected to the Delaware State House of Representatives. He served from 1974-1978, and during that time was chairman of the House Labor and Commerce Committee, a member of the Committee of School Desegregation, the Revenue and Finance Committee, and the Education Committee. In 1978, he served as the House Majority Whip. From 1979 to 1988 he was vice president, chief lobbyist, and chief financial officer for the Delaware State Chamber of Commerce. In 1988 he became a principal in Wood, Byrd & Associates. In January 2007, he moved his practice and became president and CEO of WolfBlock Public Strategies Delaware. In April 2009, he became president of The Byrd Group, a government relations firm and subsidiary of Drinker Biddle & Reath LLP. His professional activities include serving on the Delaware State Unemployment Compensation Advisory Council, the Delaware State Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, the Delaware Heritage Commission, the State Emergency Response Commission, and the Delaware Economic Forecasting Advisory Council (DEFAC). He was appointed by Delaware Governor Ruth Ann Minner to chair DEFAC from 2001-2009. He has commented on Delaware politics for various TV, radio and print communications, including PBS, CNN, and Delaware Today. He has been married to Mary Christine since 1979, and they have one daughter, Rebecca, a lawyer and lobbyist for The Byrd Group.
