Hawaii has verified that the President was born in Hawaii, and, perhaps simultaneously, Arizona’s Secretary of State has backed away from his previous birther statement and apologized for embarrassing his own state with a conspiracy theory-fueled investigation into whether the president was really a natural born U.S. citizen.

Meanwhile,

53 percent of Americans say gay marriage should be legal, hitting a high mark in support while showing a dramatic turnaround from just six years ago, when just 36 percent thought it should be legal. Thirty-nine percent, a new low, say gay marriage should be illegal.

I see the invisible hand of Obama in this. Who has ever heard about a wingnut apologizing for embarrassing his state? Preposterous.

  2. puck says:

Now here’s a recession worth taking:

CBO warns of U.S. falling off ‘fiscal cliff’

A new government study released Tuesday says that allowing Bush-era tax cuts to expire and a scheduled round of automatic spending cuts to take effect would probably throw the economy into a recession. […] CBO projected that the economy would contract by 1.3 percent in the first half of 2013…

But here’s the thing that concerns me the most:

There’s common agreement that lawmakers will act either late this year or early next year to head off the dramatic shift in the government’s financial situation.

One day at a time, Mr. President. Every day without signing tax cuts for the rich is a victory.

We love a good scare headline. But I bet nobody wants to talk about this part of the CBO report:

The economy would rebound at a 2.3 percent growth rate in the second half of the year, however, under CBO projections.

Sometimes good medicine has to taste bad for a moment.

  3. Jason330 says:

    <– Hello…. Bill Dunn people

  4. puck says:

a conspiracy theory-fueled investigation into whether the president was really a natural born U.S. citizen.

But he’s still a Muslim, right?

  5. Valentine says:

The owner of Big Fish in Rehoboth just endorsed Urquhart. No more Big Fish for me.

  6. Valentine says:

@puck — Of course! Some drunk at the local bar told me there are secret sharia codes in Obamacare.

  7. Learned Hand says:

We need a real sheriff in Sussex County who can go to Hawaii and settle this birf certificate thing

  8. Delaware Dem says:

LOL. Just a little bit outside his jurisdiction of serving papers in Sussex County.

  9. Geezer says:

That’s a reference to Sheriff Joe Arpaio, America’s Scumb…er, Sheriff. It’s exactly the sort of thing the Freedom Whiners in Sussex County want their sheriff to do.

I’m starting to realize that Tea Partiers must be involved in politics for the entertainment value, because very little that they do makes sense otherwise.

  10. Geezer says:

Hey, does anybody remember when gas prices were going to lead to Obama’s defeat in November? Gotta be, oh, six weeks ago now. Good times, weren’t they?

  11. Jason330 says:

Yeah. The conservative need for an apocalyptic deus ex machina extends out in all directions.

  12. Michael Pawlikowski says:

Sheriff Joe Arpaio – has credibility, unlike DE libs

  13. Jason330 says:

Wingnut performance art. I love it!

  14. Delaware Dem says:

Hahahaha. Credibility? Wasting taxpayer money on a forgery theory that was debunked by Fox News gives one credibility now?

  15. Delaware Dem says:

Michael Pawlikowski is a birther, and thus a racist.

  16. Delaware Dem says:

<– Hello…. Bill Dunn people More like hello Christopher Bullock people.

  17. puck says:

    Oops, he did it again!

Told the truth about the 1%, that is. David Stockman said this to the FOX gang:

I don’t think Mitt Romney can legitimately say that he learned anything about how to create jobs in the LBO business. The LBO business is about how to strip cash out of old, long-in-the-tooth companies and how to make short-term profits.

Watch the whole video, it’s less than a minute long and Stockman has more to say. Plus it’s worth it to hear the FOX commentators wetting themselves trying to shout Stockman down.

Remember Stockman was the one who told William Greider in 1981:

“I mean, Kemp-Roth [Reagan’s 1981 tax cut] was always a Trojan horse to bring down the top rate…. It’s kind of hard to sell ‘trickle down.’ So the supply-side formula was the only way to get a tax policy that was really ‘trickle down.’ Supply-side is ‘trickle-down’ theory.”

  18. Michael Pawlikowski says:

Ease up on the name calling . Everyone in power deserves scrutiny, even a pope.

I will try to learn that liberal goose step, but I never could dance.

  19. Jason330 says:

I’d welcome scrutiny. Scrutiny would be a delightful change of pace compared to the paranoid lunacy we’ve been getting. Scrutiny suggests some level of intellectual curiosity.

  20. socialistic ben says:

you’re right mike! i dont think the pope was born in america. i want a full investigation.

  21. Von Cracker says:

Comes from nowhere and says ‘libs’ aren’t credible, then admonishes whomever for namecalling.

    Cog dis, Mike, eh?

Keeps ya from swallowing a bullet, I guess. So instead of calling you a name, why don’t you just, plain fuck off then?

Also, too, tambien, take your fingers out of your sister

  22. SussexWatcher says:

Alex Pires is running against Carper as an indie.

  23. Dave says:

Well, if he promises to do something about the parking situation at the Rudder, I might give him a look. At least he had the sense to be an indie.

  24. MJ says:

V – I guess you should also write off Summerhouse, since they also own that.

And the Pope is ineligible to serve because he’s not Jewish. Got to go back to your roots. 😉

  25. Dave says:

    and Salt Air.

  26. Valentine says:

Well, I didn’t much want to go to Summerhouse anyway, given the human rights violation or whatever it was for anti-gay discrimination. I was hoping to try Salt Air, but didn’t like their happy hour offerings. But I do love me some Big Fish. sigh

  27. MJ says:

V – go to FINS or Claws

  28. Valentine says:

I have heard mixed things about Claws foodwise, but will check it out. I love FINS but heard they support Christine O’Donnell but then that they don’t. Do you know?

  29. MJ says:

Oh, and that alleged human rights violation at Summerhouse – the 2 guys who filed the complaint tried the same thing at the Blue Moon when they were not allowed to re-enter when the Moon was closing.

  30. MJ says:

Don’t know about the FINS politics. Did piss off the owner a few years ago when I told him he couldn’t use our parking lot and walking paths as a short-cut to Rehoboth Avenue on his scooter. Of course, he said “well, the owner said I could do it.” My response – “I am the owner.”

  31. Valentine says:

Well I have friends who have been poorly treated at SH, so I am not so sure.

If FINS has bad politics, I’d just as soon not know. Gotta eat somewhere.

  32. Liberal Elite says:

@V “But I do love me some Big Fish. sigh”

I did enjoy my meal there last month. It’s too bad. There’s always Jake’s. Is Jake’s owned by idiots?

  33. Valentine says:

I haven’t heard anything about Jake’s but never go there, for some reason. I need to get out more, obviously.

  34. Liberal Elite says:

There’s two Jake’s. Chowder is good there. A bit more expensive than Big Fish, but not so much…

  35. Valentine says:

Next time I make a trip to RB, I will have to try it. Thanks.

  36. Rusty Dils says:

The state of Hawaii has now triple verified that even though the birth document published on the whitehouse website is fake, and obama’s selective service card was an obvious forgery that President Obama was born in Hawaii. They are pretty darn sure of it. And even though a bunch of organizations and institutions from kindergarden to book publishing companies to law schools have records showing obama was foreign born, and have hence been told to conceal them, The state of Hawaii does not believe a quadruple verification will be necessary.

  37. Delaware Dem says:

Rusty Dils is a birther, and thus a racist.

  38. MJ says:

Rusty, don’t you ever get tired of posting bullshit? Either add something intelligent to the conversation of go away. You’re beginning to bore everyone.

  39. Valentine says:

Wow! An amazing conspiracy, and no one who participated in it has spilled the beans. This is unprecedented.

  40. Delaware Dem says:

The thing I love about this conspiracy is that, for it to work, you have to believe that Mrs. Dunham, immediately after giving birth in Kenya, took a 20 hour flight to Hawaii to post a birth announcement in the paper that was published the next day. I just love that part.

  41. Delaware Dem says:

… and we all know that direct flights between Honolulu and Kenya in 1961 were all so common.

  42. Liberal Elite says:

@Rd “and have hence been told to conceal them”

They all just knew, oh so many years ago, that the man would someday run for high office. Those darn Hawaiian newspapers…

The joke is, that even is he was born in Kenya, he could still be president. Or do you think his mother was faked too? Maybe there was some other white woman in Kenya who birthed him? Huh?

Yea.. DD is right.. (racist) . You should be ashamed.

  43. fightingbluehen says:

Will -i-am showed up at a climate debate in a huge over the top helicopter.
Typical of the liberal elite. Talk the talk, but don’t walk the walk. When they do walk, they leave a giant foot print every time.
It’s hilarious to witness the hypocrisy. Then they think they can atone, with the equivalency of a Catholic confession, by putting solar panels or a windmill on there houses, or by buying carbon credits. Not even close, but it does give the appearance that they care.

  44. DangerMouse says:

“I’m starting to realize that Tea Partiers must be involved in politics for the entertainment value, because very little that they do makes sense otherwise.”

Geezer, looks like you just may be right about the Teajadists 😉

  45. SussexAnon says:

    Hypocrisy knows no party.

The homophopic “strong on marriage” right is often closeted gay and/or married multiple times.

  46. fightingbluehen says:

(their)…. Damn I hate when that happens.

  47. Liberal Elite says:

@fbh “Then they think they can atone, with the equivalency of a Catholic confession, by putting solar panels or a windmill on their houses…”

Atone? Huh?? It’s called leading by example. And maybe I just really like driving a 100% electric car. It really IS a better ride.

  48. fightingbluehen says:

How is leaving a giant big foot sized carbon footprint, leading by example? I can just hear the jet fuel gushing like Niagara Falls.

  49. Valentine says:

Since when is Will-i-am our role model or a progressive leader?

  50. fightingbluehen says:

Never said he was a role model or leader. I just said it was typical. That being said, people often look up to pop culture figures for some reason, and I’m going to take a wild guess and assume he is a progressive.

  51. SussexAnon says:

    Hypocrisy knows no party.

The homophopic “strong on marriage” right is often closeted gay and/or married multiple times.

Reposting because FBH apparently either didn’t see it or is willfully ignoring it.

Another example might be the “conservative elite” Limbaugh, Gingrich, Cheney, Ted Nugent being hardcore pro-war but when it was their turn they received deferrments rather than go to Vietnam. And these are actual spokesmen for the conservative movement.

Note: Romney also received deferrments but I don’t have a quote of him being like the aforementioned. Unlike FBH, I am quoting facts here, not assumptions and guessing.

  52. fightingbluehen says:

Sorry SussexAnon, I was out working. I may possibly agree with you on the hypocrisy thing .
As far as guessing or assuming that Will-i-am is a liberal. I’ll take that chance. (He was attending a climate debate after all)

  53. fightingbluehen says:

Sorry I meant “climate event”. I forgot that there is no debate on the issue.

  54. thenewphil says:

The Alex Pires Senate run gets only the tiniest fleeting mention??

Also, Jakes caters to families, and so, is too loud.
