And pure hypocrisy. For all of his worrying about the budget, this is a clear way to be more responsible about the budget. The lower the minimum wage, the greater the subsidy to minimum wage companies in the form of the food stamps and Medicaid their underpaid employees collect. Carper has no problem voting for food aid cuts and mumbling about Medicaid — but making sure that the reason why lots of people even access those supports is something he can’t support.
Despicable.
So, Sen. Carper, let’s hear your logic for the economic impact your “savings” of $1.10 will have on our nation’s economy. Please be specific. As for the recipient of a $10.10 minimum wage, $1.10 less means a week’s worth of pretty modest grub at the grocery store; or a month’s heating bill, of that payment on their student loan for the month.
Please tell us, Senator your rationale for the employer or the national economy.

A business can either increase their prices or cut their labor costs.The last thing small business wants to do is to increase prices in this fragile recovery. . I’m in the landscaping and lawn care business, and I don’t know of anybody who pays employees minimum wage.
Workers who make minimum wage make up about 2% of the work force. A percentage of those workers are kids still in school. Also about 60 % of those workers will make above minimum wage after six months in employment.
It is also the consensus among economists that an increase in minimum wage will slow job growth.
Companies also have a set budget for employment. They will not give everyone in the minimum wage category an increase in pay. They will have to let go of some of those people.
Also these companies will probably pass the increased wages on to the consumer just for good measure.
All in all, this is just another move by politicians so that they can be perceived as caring for the little guy.

Now, why is it that allowing the little guy to have more money helps the broader economy? It is because poor and middle class people circulate the money they get and put it to use in the economy, and the wealthy do not.
America’s wealthy save their money at a rate of 37 percent. That is 37 cents for every dollar sucked directly out of the economy. The average savings rate is America tends to be around 4 per cent.
