Republicans take down prize-winning student painting depicting Ferguson cop with pig face gunning down black man

It is actually a well-done painting. I wish I could include the image in this comment.

The painting depicts Ferguson, Missouri, with a pig in a police uniform aiming a gun at a protester. The painting was among hundreds completed by high school students that are featured in a tunnel leading to the Capitol.

Rep. Dave Reichert, R-Wash., complained the painting violated rules for the competition, which state that works depicting subjects of contemporary political controversy or of a sensationalistic or gruesome nature are not allowed. Speaker Paul Ryan informed Reichert on Friday that the architect of the Capitol has determined the painting violated the rules and will come down, his office reported.

@puck: That story has been going on all week. I used to think Republicans had the maturity level of high-school students, but I’m dialing that back all the time.

The Michael Castle bike trail is now open all the way from Delaware City to Chesapeake City. It is the first bike path in the country to only have a center lane.

And yet everyone on it still has to keep to the right.

Your new header is funny — the letter you chose for an A is actually a D, your W is the letter pronounced SH, and И is i. I stopped trying to pronounce it after Deldshd…
ДЕЛАВАРЕЛИБЕРАЛ.НЕТ OR ДелавареЛиберал.нет would be two ways to do it in Cyrillic (with a V substituted for a W, which does not exist in that alphabet).
    FYI, from a concerned friend.

Thanks. DelawareLiberal translated into actual Russian looked like jibberish.

@Paula: Apparently the joke was on you for trying to pronounce it.

I suppose we’re all going to have to learn Russian pretty soon.

According to Google’s translator (and they oughta know, right?) it’s

    Делавэр либеральный

Andrew O’Hehir of Salon has seemed to me the best big-picture interpreter throughout this Twilight Zone episode we’re living through. He has a column up today about the Trump-Hitler comparisons and the points on which they are and aren’t germane. He makes a good point toward his conclusion:

“One more important set of differences may be deduced: Hitler was able to unite and mobilize a large majority of German society, and to drive out or crush nearly all opposition. Americans are too lazy — or at least too deeply committed to consumerism and leisure time — to be mobilized on any large scale, and too fractious and diverse to be united about anything. Opposition to Trump is not going away, and once it works through its shock and internal squabbles is likely to forge a formidable coalition.”

So maybe I’m just impatient for everyone to get to that point, and I should be more confident that we will.

@anonymous — your Google translation into Russian looks about right. I admit I was also faking it — my suggestions are Serbian Cyrillic, not Russian, and a transliteration instead of a translation. Russian has some letters not present in Serbian.
