Late Night Video — TDS Rips the Media a New One

Jon Stewart is running his show from Tampa this week covering the RNC convention with their own theme -- The Road to Jeb Bush 2016. In this clip -- he calls to task the media talking heads lamenting how bad Hurricane Issac might be for Republicans in some of the dumbest horserace commentary ever:

Wilmington Mayor’s Race — Gloves Coming Off Edition

There is a crazy amount of campaign material that is coming in my mail on a daily basis and I probably shouldn't admit that I look at all of it. Mainly to assess campaign strategies and wonder at the fact that I sometimes hear more from candidates who are supposed to represent me via these crazy mailings than I do in RL (*cough* Bob Marshall *cough*). Anyway, yesterday's mail produced the first real hit piece I've seen for the Mayor's race -- there may be others that I don't get, but this one made me chuckle.

The IC’s Office Resorts to Pay to Vote

A variation on Pay to Play, to be sure. I don't know that this got much attention by the NJ, but recently, Insurance Commissioner Karen Weldin Stewart claimed that the Captive Insurance section was suddenly generating a "surplus" AND that she was having that "surplus" returned to the General Fund to be specifically directed to the City of Wilmington. This is a pretty sweet deal and interesting that suddenly this program has a surplus. It is even more interesting that she just sends a big chunk of that "surplus" to the City of Wilmington, which is the source of one of the few Party endorsements she received.

Homegrown Terrorists Caught in a Plot to Assassinate President Obama

.... in addition to planning and carrying out lots of other mayhem. I haven't heard this on the news, but saw it online. Information still seems to be coming in, but the short story is that Army soldiers at Ft. Stewart in Georgia bought about $87K in guns and bomb-making materials, killed two people who looked like they were going to talk about the group and were working out a plan to overthrow the government and assassinate President Obama.

Tough Campaign Messaging

Am looking for alot of opinions from DL readers on this one. The sticker shown below is from the Alex Pires campaign and was on the Sunday NJ as delivered (I think delivered) to one of our favorite commenters yesterday. Since this individual knows that some of us do not see the dead tree version of the paper, this was sent in to share. I'm not sure if this was on all of the papers statewide, but take a look and tell us if you think this is effective or not:
