Celia’s Last Post: Legislative Rankings
I am actually going to miss Celia. Hers was not an opinion I often agreed with, but she was a good barometer on the political class’ conventional wisdom. She was a proud adherent to the Delaware Way. I can’t remember how many posts Jason, I, and others have done critiquing her opinions and her reporting. And I guess that is the real reason we will miss Celia: what the hell will we write about now?!? Oh, don’t worry, I am sure Donviti will write about the cherished right to own grenade launchers soon.
But, for the last time, I will critique her last post, which was her rankings of the competitive legislative races this cycle.

BREAKING: Del. Dems to Spend $11,000 more on Carney
Alternate Reality (Updated x 2)
Delaware is a funny state. We don’t get live coverage of our gubernatorial debates like Pennsylvania and New Jersey do, so we have to trust what we read in the newspaper, unless we actually attend the event ourselves. And our only major (if you can call it major) is the Wilmington News Journal.
Last night, three of the four candidates for Governor, Jack Markell, John Carney and Mike Protack, attended a debate in Dover. Naturally, this morning’s lead story in the News Journal concerns that debate and the news about prison healthcare that emerged from the debate. This post is not about that news. It is about how the News Journal covers this story.
Read this follwing blurb below the fold and tell me how many candidates you think attended the debate last night.
Checking Celia
Celia Cohen is back from vacation with her latest rankings of Delaware’s races this fall. I agree with her that Biden and Castle are nearly guaranteed to be reelected. But let’s see what she has to say on the Governor’s race (Markell v. Carney v. Lee v. Protack):
For the first time in a generation since Republican Pete du Pont won in 1976, there is no clear frontrunner for governor. (Not you, Protack). Tilts Democrat(ic).
I suppose she means there is no individual frontfunner for Governor, for obviously either Democrat would have to be favored to defeat Bill Lee in the general. Yeah, it might be a more competitive race with John Carney as the nominee, but come on. It is not like Carney is going to lose to Lee. As to there being no individual frontrunner, I agree. As to her use of the term “tilts Democrat,” obviously she is trying to avoid the word “leans Democratic” for some reason. Perhaps she fears a copyright lawsuit from Larry Sabato or Charlie Cook. Also, note her improper use of “Democrat,” which further reveals her right wing tendencies.
