I simply don’t get why ‘Morning Joe’ Loves Coons

Coons appears regularly on 'Morning Joe' and I just don't get why.  All he ever does is restate  whatever conventional wisdom the panel has already gathered around.  He puts on the aires of someone getting ready to say something important, which always gets me to lean in, and listen up. ... then nothing.   It is weird.  Consistent and weird.
Why aren’t markets tanking?

Why aren’t markets tanking?

I'm seriously asking. Why isn't the DJIA in the toilet right now? I've always heard that markets value stability and predictably above all. That bit of CW seems to have gone by the wayside. What the fuck are investors thinking?

Comment Rescue: Word of the day is “malleable”

When my esteemed co-counsel said this in the comments:
One more reason why the Democratic Party sucks. They WANT people with no (relevant) skills of their own as long as they are malleable Third Way types.
...I thought of Ken Simpler's Simple plan. The one for the state government to act as a kind of federal reserve bank, letting money out into the world to keep the economy from getting too cold or too hot. As Alby observed, that idea is DOA being illegal. However, what if the point wasn't the idea but the tone? What if Simpler is auditioning to be the next acceptable Republican? ...a GOP candidate acceptable to Tom Carper and Chris Coons?

Occasional Words from the Resistance

Last month I received as a birthday gift the Collected Essays, Journalism and Letters of George Orwell, first edition in four volumes.  I reacted like little kid under the Christmas tree.  It’s incredibly satisfying when people close to you know you well enough to give the perfect gift.  Something's functioning properly.  Feels good.

CZA Regs Meetings to be Shrouded in Secrecy – Part 1

John Carney has a real penchant for secret meetings. We are currently developing a story based on a (DNREC) invitation to "stakeholders" regarding Coastal Zone Conversion Permits. The meeting invitation promises participants that their participation in the Regs writing process will shrouded in secrecy and cloaked in confidentiality.

A closer look at Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore

Two-time former Chief Justice of the Alabama State Supreme Court Roy Moore, the confirmed “birther” and believer of inane right-wing conspiracies, is running to become the Alabama’s next senator despite his lawless actions that twice forced him from his elected offices.  And he very well may win.  He won the GOP primary and is favored in the general election.  But let’s be clear: It is insane for any American (Republican, Democrat, Other) to support Roy Moore, a man whose derelictions of judicial duty due to his refusal to accept the Constitution – and not the Bible – as the supreme law of the land twice resulted in his vacating a position entrusted to him by the people of Alabama, for the United States Senate. Moore’s disdain for man-made law is not a quirk.  He is running on his contempt for man made law.

The NRA’s Wayne LaPierre calls on Congress to pass a law requiring armed Music Festival Patrons

Note: These are the actual words of LaPierre on December 15th, the day after the Newtown Connecticut shootings where 20-year-old Adam Lanza fatally shot 20 children and 6 adult staff members. I've lightly edited the original sickening statement, and changed references from schools to music festivals, and changed an "us" reference (meaning the NRA) to Second Amendment enthusiasts.

Mike Purzycki Is a Racist

By RE Vanella

I knew that I had a facility with words and a power of facing unpleasant facts, and I felt that this created a sort of private world in which I could get my own back for my own failure in everyday life.
