Open Thread for July 9th – Fox and Friends

Has anybody else watched Fox and Friends, the AM "news" show on the Fox News Channel? I just watched that idiocy for about two minutes, and a painful two minutes it was. The doltish hosts are very aware that they are talking to the Republican President who is almost surly watching. Moreover, they are very aware that they need to flatter their doltish baby-man viewer on topics such as:
  • How great the President is.
  • How smart the President is to conclude a cyber-security agreement with Putin
  • How great the cyber-security agreement is.
  • How angry Democrats will be at being bested by the genius President, yet again.
  • How great America is thanks to the greatness of the great Republican President.
  • I'm not exaggerating. That all happened in the two minutes I had it on. North Korean state media has nothing on Fox News. In totally not surprising news, The Republican President doesn't know the difference between China and Taiwan.

    Clintonite Dems, Stop killing America

I don't dislike Clinton zealots and "centrist" Dems personally. Some of them are very nice people. Tom Carper one on one? Class guy. First rate. Mat Marshall? The best. What I don't like are people wedded to a political philosophy that has such a long track record of abject failure. By luck and design we live in a two party system, and the radical modern Republican Party in America needs a legitimate counterweight. The Party of John Carney and Hillary Clinton is not that acting as that counterweight. If mushy, "third way", middle of the road, compromise first and bi-partiisanship above all actually WORKED, I'd love it. Other than for the election of Bill Cinton, WHEN HAS IT EVER WORKED? Your endless appetite for appeasement is leaving Republicans to run roughshod over American norms and values that have served us well for over 240 years. Just stop it. Stop killing America. Dustyn Thompson and Eric Morrison wrote a guest post at Blue Delaware which deals with this topic more diplomatically than I could have.

Can Delaware Liberals theoretically raise $50,000 for a primary challenger to John Carney?

It is a simple question. Based his track record so far, can we get 100 Delaware liberals and progressives to pledge $500.00 each? Money talks. I'm in, so the goal is now 99 Delaware liberals and progressives on the record pledging $500.00 each to signal their disgust with this travesty of a budget and the terrible "leadership" that foisted it on this state. Say yes or no in the comments, and if we get to $50,000 in pledges we'll go on to phase 2 - setting up a fundraising page and start turning those pledges into real money thereby giving some qualified candidate a running start at challenging Carney.

White House Poised to Really Fuck Shit Up

Kellyanne Conway has confirmed that the White House is willing to repeal the ACA without a replacement in place. I'm no economist, but I am a dyed in the wool capitalist, and this plan smells like a recipie for economic disaster. And yet, this should not come as a surprise to anyone. Remember that fucking shit up is what Republicans believe they were elected to do.

    Tim Dukes is an idiot

IMG_2109 Far be it for me to crap on someone who doesn't know the difference between "past" and "passed" they probably don't spend too much time on book learnin' where Dukes went to school. And lord knows I've made my fair share of typos. Just read past beyond that and drink in the stupidity and see how happy Gov Carney has made the "all taxes (other than taxes on poor people) are evil crowd".

Chamber of Commerce DINO Dems want to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory

This post if fairly typical of the battered wife mindset of "centrist" chamber of commerce Dems. It is all "hoist up the white flag, we've lost" before the battle is even joined. Del Dem says, “Andria Bennett has given the Republicans all the leverage.” How does he figure when Dems hold a super majority in the house? I’m not saying Bennett made her play in order to make the Acting Gov come back to the table with more Rev, but why not take the opportunity? Bennet’s vote seems very gettable in that with some minor amendments. As the post notes, Bennett was one of six Democrats who voted against the budget in 2015 BECAUSE it did not do enough to raise new revenues. The only possible reason not to go with HB 107 and a package that brings more revue, and less draconian cuts is that the Acting Gov, some chamber of Commerce DINO’s, and the figure head Gov might peel off back the the GOP side.

Acting Gov Pete Must Bring HB 107 to the House Floor

Whatever happens today, it should include a vote on HB 107:
This bill creates two new tax brackets at $125,000 with a rate of 7.10%, and $250,000 with a rate of 7.85%. Also, the bill provides a tiered reduction of the otherwise available itemized deduction based upon the individual's taxable income.
Bring up up with HB 101 (Grant-in-aid). Andria Bennett has given the Democrats a great opportunity to expose the Republicans for the scoundrels that they are. The problem is that Acting Gov Pete has played the bigger scoundrel so far. Multiple sources have painted a picture of Acting Gov Pete's heavy handed treatment of the Dem's in the closing hours of Friday's session. His bullying style, his unwillingness to entertain any ideas that did not come from his own head are hall marks of terrible leadership. It is time the Acting Gov takes another approach and backs away from his Republican allies and take a more Democratic stance regarding the mix of revenues and cuts required to balance the budget.
