Lappy!(tm) Hunter Biden’s Laptop Back in the news as Biden sues John Paul Mac Isaac. Bonus: Issac’s lawyer is Ronald Poliquin

The Lappy!(tm) story gets more absurd by the day. Check out who is representing the low-life who stole Lappy!(tm) and set this idiocy into motion.

Hunter Biden sues computer repair shop owner who worked on a laptop, accusing him of trying to invade his privacy

Hunter Biden is accusing the Delaware computer repair shop owner who worked on a laptop of trying to invade his privacy and wrongfully sharing his personal data for political purposes, according to new federal court filings.

Biden’s lawyers also say that John Paul Mac Isaac opposed the presidential candidacy of Hunter’s father, Joe Biden, and that he gave Hunter Biden’s data to “political enemies” to help then-President Donald Trump in 2020.

“Mac Isaac intended and knew, or clearly should have known, that people to whom he provided the data that he believed to belong to Mr. Biden would use it against then-candidate Joseph Biden and to assist then-President Trump,” Hunter Biden’s lawyers wrote in a court filing on Friday.

Ronald Poliquin, a lawyer for Mac Isaac in the civil case, declined to comment to CNN on Friday, saying Mac Isaac’s team was still reviewing Hunter Biden’s claims and would respond in court.

DeSantis Wants to do to America what he’s done to Florida

Charges Dropped Against Driver Who Opened Fire on I-95 in Miami

The driver’s attorney said that Florida’s Stand Your Ground Law ensured his client’s actions were reasonable self-defense.

The Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office has dropped charges against Eric Popper, the driver who pulled out a handgun and shot at another driver through his own car on I-95 in Miami-Dade County. The road rage incident occurred in June 2021 but took a wild twist in January 2022. Dashcam footage from Popper’s Toyota Venza was given to the media. Popper’s attorney said the footage showed his client’s actions were in self-defense. The state attorney’s office agreed.

Pssst…. Want to know why Carney is REALLY attacking Delaware pensioners?

If state offers pay, benefits and medical insurance that is equal or better than what is offered on the so-called “open market”, the state is undermining the ability of corporations to exploit workers.

That’s why the pay is miserly and the once decent benefit packages are being torn down.  The state can only help corporate oligarchs in two ways: directly and indirectly.   And the Carney administration is busy doing both.

The myth of “liberal” news: How the media does the work of fascists

DL has been making this point for nearly 20 years.  Salon just now gets it.

There is no such thing as the so-called liberal news media. In reality, there is a corporate news media that polices the limits of approved public discourse and privileges the voices and agenda of the powerful over those of everyday Americans. And in a time of ascendant neofascism, that is a great betrayal of the American people and the sacred responsibility that the Fourth Estate has in a democracy.

“The liberal media” (and its conjoined twin “liberal media bias”) is language that was invented by the American right-wing in the 1980s and 1990s as a way of training and bullying the American news media into serving its agenda – or at a minimum a much more friendly and uncritical space through which to distribute right-wing talking points, dogma, and misinformation.

Wallflower Prosecutors Don’t Want to Be the First Out on the Dance Floor

Once first Trump indictment drops — ‘it’s gonna be on’ with everyone filing their own indictments: former prosecutor

https://www.rawstory.com/trump-indictment-game-on/

Former federal prosecutor Glenn Kirschner said Thursday that if Donald Trump is indicted, whether from the New York City grand jury or the Fulton County grand jury, everyone will want to pull the trigger on their own prosecutions.

Speaking to SiriusXM Radio’s Dean Obeidallah, Kirschner began by agreeing that the New York case isn’t just about hush money payments to adult film star Stormy Daniels. While some charges would be lower-level if they were the only charge, in Trump’s case, he has both the Stormy Daniels payoff as well as the Karen McDougal payments through a third party. That could elevate things to a felony, as legal analysts have explained over the past few days.

Announcing DL’s April Highlands Bunker Patron Drive

In 2022 the Highland’s Bunker established itself as an energetic and necessary part of Delaware’s news infrastructure. I could regale you with endless reasons as to why you ought to pledge your patronage and stand behind the Bunker, and rest assured, I shall do just that come April.

But for the present, let’s not lose sight of the grander scheme: the fight against the voracious maw of late-stage capitalism, and the liberation of the common man from the shackles of power.

Let’s not forget that this fight, while arduous, can and should be a jolly good time. And so, I implore you, indulge in this mini-episode with a joyful heart.

Was Chris Coons knowingly working with Moscow to destabilize American banking?

As SVB failure spreads to Credit Suisse, it is worth looking at what motivated Coons to help Trump (and by extension Putin) by gutting Dodd-Frank in order to destabilize American banking.

What we know:
– By 2018 it was widely reported and well known that Trump was working as an unregistered agent the Putin’s government in Moscow.

– Coons worked to undermine the specific stress test & liquidity requirement protections in Dodd-Frank that would have prevented SVB (the nation’s 16th largest bank) from failing.

Trump worked overtime throughout the weekend after the SVB to encourage a general run on American banking and more widespread bank failures.

Coons has stonewalled questions from media about his motives and current thinking on having voted to destabilize American banking.

It is clear that Putin is the ultimate beneficiary of American banking destabilization cause by Coons votes to gut Dodd-Frank. The question is – was Chris Coons knowingly working with Moscow?

The headline… *chef’s kiss*

It even has an M. Night Shyamalan twist at the very end.

“The number of Russians born in April 2022 was no higher than it had been in the months of Hitler’s occupation.”

This, from Rubber Hose , feels like a weirdly under-reported part of the Russia story.

The 2nd biggest nuclear arsenal is sitting on a demographic time bomb

It’s weird how enamored conservatives are with Putin’s Russia, because just about every way I try to look at the country, it just looks doomed:

A demographic tragedy is unfolding in Russia. Over the past three years the country has lost around 2m more people than it would ordinarily have done, as a result of war, disease and exodus. The life expectancy of Russian males aged 15 fell by almost five years, to the same level as in Haiti. The number of Russians born in April 2022 was no higher than it had been in the months of Hitler’s occupation. And because so many men of fighting age are dead or in exile, women outnumber men by at least 10m.

The article is probably paywalled for most of you, but the bottom line is Russia’s crashing population has multiple causes. Most former communist European countries have had low birth rates which have produce shrinking populations. But Russia isn’t just part of that overall trend, it also is waging a war that is killing a phenomenal number of its men (the gender imbalance in Russia is growing). There are large numbers of Russians emigrating both to dodge the draft and to avoid economic problems in the country, and those leaving are largely the most educated/most economically productive class. Plus, Russia had one of the worst COVID responses in the world. The excess deaths, which was bad enough to shave about a full percent off Russia’s total population. Putin’s belligerent foreign escapades are clearly making matters worse and the only thing the Russian government seems to be doing to stop a demographic crash is kidnapping Ukrainian children.
It just seems inevitable that a huge sprawling country, which rules over an extremely diverse range of ethnic minorities, many of which are not losing population, won’t be able to keep things under control if these trends continue. That’s a far bigger threat to Russia than NATO.

Delaware’s Most Overrated Town exploring changes to charter

Lewes Officials seek authority to control larger amount of money

Proposed changes to the Lewes charter include increasing the threshold for public bidding projects from $25,000 to $50,000, raising the borrowing limit to $75 million, and removing voter approval for borrowing up to $5 million.

Does more money create more problems or do more problems create a need for more money? Lewes Mayor and City Council seem to be asking themselves which situation applies to them.

At a Feb. 28 council workshop, officials discussed possible changes to the charter that would allow the city to borrow larger amounts of money without voter approval and increase the threshold for necessary bidding.

Why in the world is the GOP so PRO-Putin?

I get being anti-war. I get being blackmailed by Putin would make Trump pliable.   But being adamantly pro-putin to the point of being anti-Ukraine, seems like a strange space for the GOP to occupy.  So how did Republicans become the Party of Putin?   LGM takes a look.

DeSantis’s strategy continues to be to out-Trump Trump, so consequently his proposed betrayal of Ukraine is even more brazen than Trump’s, who at least makes mouth noises about how NATO needs to pitch in more, and who hasn’t yet said anything as Orwellian as DeSantis’s claim that Russia’s invasion of another country is “a territorial dispute.”

Now obviously DeSantis is only doing this because it polls well with the Republican base, which raises the question of why it does.

The answer, I think, is:

(1) Joe Biden and the Democratic party support Ukraine’s defense against Russia’s invasion. This is the biggest reason, and really quite sufficient by itself

(2) Russia is a reactionary ethno-nationalist authoritarian proto-theocratic regime, i.e., what the Republican base wants the USA to become.

(3) Isolationism has deep roots in the Republican party, although this was largely forgotten in the Reagan era. BTW Baker here is committing the classic Boomer mistake of not realizing that Reagan hasn’t been president now for almost 35 years, meaning there’s about the same time gap between the present and the Reagan presidency as there was between the beginning of that presidency and the end of World War II. Calling today’s GOP the party of Reagan makes about as much sense as calling the GOP in 1980 the party of Thomas Dewey or Robert Taft.

In any event, DeSantis is literally worse than Trump on pretty much every substantive issue. Probably the best outcome for the country would be for him to win the GOP nomination, as I think the odds of Trump not using all his immense influence within the Republican base to destroy a DeSantis presidential run are essentially zero, assuming Trump is alive in the fall of next year, which is extremely probable, although accidents will happen, especially when very powerful people are really hoping they will.

Democrats need to re-brand as the “DON’T DRINK BLEACH!” party.

Uber Technologies Inc., UBER -0.93%decrease; red down pointing triangle Lyft Inc. LYFT -2.87%decrease; red down pointing triangle and other companies scored a victory with a California court ruling that preserves their independent-contractor model in the state and could boost their efforts to maintain that model elsewhere.

A state appeals court said that workers should continue to be treated as independent contractors under a California ballot measure known as Proposition 22, though it asked that a clause which put restrictions on collective bargaining by workers be severed from it.

News for some of our dumb lurkers:

Claim: During former U.S. President Donald Trump’s presidency, 15 U.S. banks failed.
Fact check by Snopes.com: True

Whatever conservative ethos of restraint there once was has vanished.

By its own maneuvering, the modern Supreme Court has made itself the most powerful branch of government. Superior to Congress. Superior to the president. Superior to the states. Superior to precedent, procedure, and norms. In effect, superior to the people.

Most talked about in this regard, of course, is the Court’s ending of long-established reproductive rights in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization. But the assertion of extreme power extends well beyond the issue of abortion.

Another day, another youth pastor.

Dennis W. Laferty, the pastor of Thompson United Methodist Church in Thompson Township, was indicted by a Geauga County grand jury after an investigation into allegations of sexual abuse against minors, according to a news release from the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office.

Laferty, 37, is indicted on the following charges:

  • Five counts of sexual battery, a third-degree felony
  • One count of gross sexual imposition, a third-degree felony
  • One count of sexual imposition, a third-degree misdemeanor

The alleged abuse is said to have occurred between 2019 and January 2023, according to the indictment.

Senator Coons statement on Silicon Valley Bank [Annotated]

WILMINGTON, Del. – U.S. Senator Chris Coons (D-Del.) issued the following statement on Silicon Valley Bank: [After a 48 hours campaign of harassment by some dumb blogger, I have decided to bless you peons with my beautiful  thoughts]

“I commend the Biden administration’s swift actions to address challenges posed by the closure of Silicon Valley Bank and Signature Bank and to shore up our banking system as a whole. [I have heard from my billionaire CEO peers, my true constituents,  and they approve of Biden’s plan.]

After being briefed by officials from the U.S. Treasury Department, Federal Deposit Insurance Corp., and Federal Reserve over the weekend, I am significantly reassured about the path forward. [I am a very important person, that’s the key message I am trying to get into your dumb heads.]

Their solution ensures depositors have ready access to their funds and taxpayers will not have to shoulder the financial burden. [I’m going to go along with the fantasy that these are not taxpayers funds.]

The administration’s actions should give all Delawareans confidence that their federally insured deposits are safe and that our banking system is resilient. [My CEO peers assure me that we’ll all be back to making money off you suckers in very short order.]

I will continue working with my colleagues to explore what additional steps, if any, we may need to take to further strengthen our financial system.” [I’m dying to extol the virtues of  “bi-partisanship” in closing by my staff has threatened to quit if I do.  Also in closing, if you expected me to admit that my votes to gut Dodd-Frank were flat wrong and resulted in the exact type of bank failures that many anticipated, you are hilarious.]
