VALDOSTA — On the first day of the new Georgia Safe Carry Protection Act, a misunderstanding between two armed men in a convenience store Tuesday led to a drawn firearm and a man’s arrest. “Essentially, it involved one customer with a gun on his hip when a second customer entered with a gun on his hip,” said Valdosta Police Chief Brian Childress. At approximately 3 p.m. Tuesday, police responded to a call regarding a customer dispute at the Enmark on the corner of Park Avenue and North Lee Street. A man carrying a holstered firearm entered the store to make a purchase. Another customer, also with a holstered firearm, approached him and demanded to see his identification and firearms license, according to the Valdosta Police Department report. The customer making demands for ID pulled his firearm from its holster but never pointed it at the other customer, who said he was not obligated to show any permits or identification.

Charlie Copeland, the Republican state chair, all but conceded the party is punting on the statewide races in the hope of making gains in the future from the bottom up. "Since 2010 the Republican Party has worked to undo the effects of a brutal and divisive primary election that wounded our party both politically and financially. At the top of the list . . . is the creation of a back bench of elected officials that can later go on to run for statewide federal and state offices," Copeland said in a statement.
Can this mean no more waving the bloody shirt and railing against the Kenyan Usurper's socialism from the DEGOP? I'll believe it when I don't see it.

There is no case for voting for Chip Flowers. However, I think there can be a case for voting against Sean Barney. For all his merits (and his merits are many) he is still a Carper man through and through. Do we really need anther mobbed up Carper guy on a glide path to the promised land of corporate back-scratch-a-palooza? I probably will not run against Carney. I don't have the guts or the time. If I don't run, I will not have any way to register my disgust with the corporatist Democrats who run Delaware. The one vanishingly small gesture I can make is to vote against Tom Carper's pick for treasurer.

The filing deadline is July 8th. Primary day is September 9th. The filing fee is $3,480 About $700.00 was pledged in the last thread on this topic, so I'd need to kick in $2,780. That is doable. Beyond these little nuts and bolts items, I've tried to compile a candid list of what I have and what I need in order to pull this off.

Reid got one thing wrong - it the Republican's reaction isn't shocking. For me "shocking" indicates some element of surprise.
"It doesn't matter what your ideology is, you should feel good about this. There’s no conspiracy here, this is actual news. But the reaction of some of the Republicans, I’ve been told, is to downplay and insult the brave men and women of our special forces and the FBI. They’re trying to say, oh, it’s no big deal. I wonder if the men and women who captured the terrorist agree. But the Republicans said it's no big deal. Even in these days of polarization, created by the obstruction, the delay, and diversion of the Republicans, even in these days of polarization, their reaction is shocking and disgusting. They’re so obsessed with criticism, criticizing anything President Obama does. They’ll go so far as to sit here and insult the men and women in uniform and in law enforcement. They should stop and think, just for a little bit, about what it’s like to put your life on the line and to do something for our country -- that’s what they did. They’re insulting these good men and women who did some courageous things, heroic things, in order to criticize President Obama. I think they’ve lost touch with reality; it’s really pathetic, there’s no other word for it."

To be Republican is to loud and wrong and loudly wrong whenever possible. The noise is so wrong and so loud and kept up for so long that weak minded people (the national media for example) sometimes mistake the persistence for legitimacy. Volume for validity. So if you hear one of your liberal minded friends fall prey to to thinking that Obama "has his share of blame" for Iraq - quickly correct them. Bush enabled the current Sunni power in Iraq by invading Iraq under false pretenses, and with no plan for the occupation. Bush elevated Osama bin Laden and Bin Laden's dreams to legitimacy. Bush removed Saddam Hussein, Bin Laden's key enemy in the region and shattered Iraq’s tenuous factional stability. And, Bush bequeathed military and political power to radicalized Sunni's that would have been unthinkable prior to our handing over arms by the crate load, and tens of millions of dollars for "rebuilding" that was delivered in duffel bags off the back of trucks.

So I guess this is happening now. If I get some pledges, and Mrs. (not as) Liberal (as me), doesn't kill me - I guess I'll have some news to announce. For the record - if John Carney paid a crumb's worth of attention to the Democratic base, this wouldn't be necessary. I actually had high hopes for Carney, but there is no more room left for hoping for the best. He is a complete and total sell out. His constant overtures to the obstructionist Republicans are hard to swallow, but you can chalk that up to a warm and open personality. Doing the Koch Brother's bidding is the last straw, however. It isn't an issue of style. Now he is openly working against the interests of middle class Delawareans. This country has moved to the right over the past 20 years because the GOP has primaries which force the party to pay attention to the base. The Democrats don;t have primaries, so Democrats like John Carney are free to utterly ignore the legitimate concerns of the Democratic base.
I think I have to primary John Carney. Not because I want to be in Congress, or be a O’Donell type spoiler and risk throwing the seat to the Republicans. John Carney will easily beat me in the primary. But I want to do it to just have a chance to tell him to his face that he is wrong to take $300k from the financial services industry. That he is wrong to enable the Tea Party like he does by giving “bipartisan” gloss to all the bullshit they are pulling. That he is wrong to use his seat to benefit billionaires like Pete Peterson at the expense of Delawareans he is supposed to be representing. What’s the filling fee? I would surely lose – but if I could just tell him to be a Democrat to his face it might shame him into thinking twice about being the Republican's boy on the other side of the isle. Even if is didn’t, it would make me feel better.
