Convicted State Auditor Conduct MUCH WORSE Than What Was Revealed in Court

With his shameful motion to dismiss the conviction of the State Auditor,  Woods opened a can of worms. Read the items that were excluded in his favor and see that one of the items was the convicted auditor’s access to emails outside of the “State’s enterprise.”

So who was the subject of this (no doubt illegal) covert surveillance?  Who’s email account outside of the “State’s enterprise” was McGuiness keeping tabs on?   Now I’m hoping this goes to appeal, because I think we’ve only seen the tip of the shit-berg known as Kathy McGuiness’ term as State Auditor.

REV & Bill Cover The Special Session – People in Log Homes Shouldn’t throw Cans of Kerosene

Pete and his comrades in the GOP have a flimsy argument to make.  An argument as likely to fall on their heads as Bonini’s rickety log home.

The Kathy fight moves across the green to Legislative Hall as the State Senate considers a resolution to remove Kathy McGuiness from office. We walk through the play by play before talking about what might be next in the legislative process.

Shorter Pete: Kathy is innocent until a guilty verdict has been entered by the Superior Court and she is removed by the Governor.

From: Vella, Lauren (LegHall)

Subject: Senate Concurrent Resolution 128- Auditor

Good afternoon Members of the Majority Caucus,

In light of the action taken by the Senate today with SCR 128, the Speaker responded to press inquires with the following statement cosigned by Majority Leader Longhurst and Majority Whip Mitchell. He asked that we share the full statement it with you directly as well. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out. I have attached the letter the caucus sent last week and the press release so you have it handy

“This isn’t taking decisive action: it’s political theater. I have no intention of calling the House into session to consider this resolution at this time. The Senate’s resolution would simply start a lengthy process to ultimately ask the governor to remove the state auditor from office – a request he’s not required to fulfill, and a request he’s indicated that he wouldn’t carry out at this time anyway.

“Going through this lengthy process will produce no different result than the letter our caucus members sent to the governor more than a week ago supporting him using his constitutional powers to remove the auditor at the appropriate time.

“The governor has stated that he intends to follow the Delaware Constitution, which clearly spells out the quickest and most direct process to remove a public official for misconduct: Once the verdict has been entered as a conviction by the Superior Court, the governor is required by law to remove the official. After the verdict in the state auditor case has been entered, the governor must remove her from office. That is as clear and simple as it gets.

“It’s important that the public understand that what the Senate is proposing is to start a process where the General Assembly would need to draft rules, give 10 days’ notice and then hold what amounts to a trial – where the auditor can be represented by legal counsel, call witnesses and present evidence. Afterward, each chamber would need a 2/3 vote to merely ask the governor to remove the auditor.

“Both options lead to the governor making the final call on removal, and he’s already said he intends to wait until a conviction has been entered, at which point he’s required to remove the auditor.”

Best,

Lauren

Project 2045

If you are stridently “Pro-Life” you are probably also a racist with pants wet with piss over the idea that white people are soon going to be going to be outnumbered in the United States.

It may not be immediately obvious how the fight over abortion rights is tied to the “great replacement” theory — the debunked conspiracy theory promoted by some Republican politicians who claim that Democrats support more immigration to “replace” white American voters. But the explanation for, say, an alleged gaffe that overturning the constitutional right to an abortion is a “historic victory of white life” or a concern that not enough white babies are being born in the U.S. can be found in the history of the anti-abortion movement.

The movement to end legal abortion has a long, racist history, and like the great replacement theory, it has roots in a similar fear that white people are going to be outnumbered by people believed to hold a lower standing in society. Those anxieties used to be centered primarily around various groups of European immigrants and newly emancipated slaves, but now they’re focused on non-white Americans who, as a group, are on track to numerically outpace non-Hispanic white Americans by 2045, according to U.S. Census projections.

Vote Blue No Matter Who (?)

Establishment Dems exhort liberals and progressives to “hold their nose” and vote for execrable establishment Dems because otherwise “the bad Republicans will..blah blah blah…”

But when someone the sober moderates aren’t crazy about wins a primary, does the establishment hold its collective nose and “vote blue no matter who”?

What do you think?

“Oz Cries To Fox News As Fetterman Manhandles Him”

You’ve probably seen stories like this. Fetterman is just clowning the fuck out of Oz and High Dems like Chris Coons think it is unseemly. They think Fetterman should be releasing some white papers on how “complicated income tax rebate schemes” are the heart of the Democratic Party.

Well fuck you Coonsie! I love it. The clowning resonates because it is built on Fettermen’s authentic Democratic values and policies.  I picked this clip at random because I like the headline the guy picked, but this could be a daily feature as Fetterman runs circles around the New Jersey celebrity.

Convicted State Auditor, Kathy McGuiness, is still ridiculous.  (See below).

The “independent state legislature” theory is both transparently idiotic and a major threat to American democracy

The only operative unifying theory in all of these (“INDEPENDENT STATE LEGISLATURE” THEORY) cases is “Republicans are entitled to govern even if voters prefer Democrats.”

I have no doubt that “Republican Rule by Divine Right” could get 5 votes in the Supreme Court now.

Also, on a related note…Remember when Chris Coons worked so feverishly to rush a record number of Trump appointed federal judges into service?   I wonder if he has any regrets.

Late stage capitalist can’t be content with collecting most of the money at the top of the food chain, they need all of the money.  And when they see a juicy  opportunity to squeeze even more profits out of our Alabama manufacturing plants they bloody well take it.  I mean, being anti-union is a good start, but (undocumented, trafficked) child labor right here in the good ‘ol  Yoo, Ess, Ay …now that’s the ticket!

From Reuters:

A subsidiary of Hyundai Motor Co has used child labor at a plant that supplies parts for the Korean carmaker’s assembly line in nearby Montgomery, Alabama, according to area police, the family of three underage workers, and eight former and current employees of the factory.

Underage workers, in some cases as young as 12, have recently worked at a metal stamping plant operated by SMART Alabama LLC, these people said. SMART, listed by Hyundai in corporate filings as a majority-owned unit, supplies parts for some of the most popular cars and SUVs built by the automaker in Montgomery, its flagship U.S. assembly plant.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, at least three of the children at the center of this case are immigrants. The Reuters investigation began after a 14-year-old Guatemalan girl went missing back in February. The girl’s father confirmed that his daughter and two sons — the oldest being 15 — all worked at the plant.

This “aridification” is bad. Someone should do something

I seem to remember Democrats running on “doing something” once. That was a long time ago. Now we allow our party to be controlled by its two worst members.

If those NASA satellite photos that show how Lake Mead is rapidly becoming the Mead Desert aren’t enough to get you concerned about the extreme drought in the American Southwest, here’s another tidbit: New Mexico’s Rio Grande has stopped flowing through Albuquerque for the first time in about 40 years.

John Fleck went to take a look at the river and described it as a “lovely puddly mess of mud.”

And there’s more: the Colorado River is drying, too, and if conditions don’t improve, “the 40 million people who directly depend on the Colorado River must fundamentally change their way of life,” saysThe Denver Post.

“This is not a drought, this is aridification,” Rhett Larson, a water law professor at Arizona State University, told the Post. “This is not something we can wait out. This is not something we can survive. This is the new world we live in.”  – Via Boing Boing

Common Cause Delaware Urges Georgetown Town Council to Reject Public Funding Request from Private Organization Hosting Confederate Monument and Flag

Georgetown Historical Society, proudly flying the treason/Lynyrd Skynyrd flag, is obviously a bunch of MAGA shitheads and racists. They would like the Georgetown Town Council to declare themselves to be MAGA shitheads and racists as well. Common Cause Delaware would like the Georgetown Town Council to NOT declare themselves to be MAGA shitheads and racists.

Dear Mayor West and Members of the Georgetown Town Council:

Common Cause Delaware strongly urges you to deny the Great Fund Request from the Georgetown Historical Society, which is on your July 25, 2022 agenda. As an organization that supports democracy and all it entails – including fundamental human equality – we cannot remain silent about this issue.

The Georgetown Historical Society stubbornly continues to fly the Confederate flag on its property, despite repeated requests for its removal, and since 2007 has maintained a Confederate monument, even though Delaware was not part of the Confederacy.

The Confederate flag represents the cause of those who took up arms to defend the institution of slavery that dehumanized Black people, declared them essentially inferior, and treated them with ghastly cruelty.

In 2022, almost 160 years after the Emancipation Proclamation ended slavery in this country, it is shocking and unacceptable that the Georgetown Historical Society continues to fly the Confederate flag and openly mourns the lives of those who died fighting against the United States.

Your spending choices demonstrate your priorities. We urge you to reject this request to spend taxpayer money subsidizing a private organization that celebrates the Confederacy. Common Cause Delaware urges you to declare there is no place for racism in your funding priorities, and to swiftly deny their request for money.

Sincerely,

Claire Snyder-Hall

Executive Director

This Highlands Bunker/WFP Series is Very Good

This series in which REV interviews the WFP endorsed candidates is illuminating and inspiring. I think the Shané Darby ep is still locked, but you can start with this James Taylor episode.

State House candidate James Taylor joins Rob in the virtual bunker to talk about how his background in Wilmington led him to Berklee and back again, why he’s running for office, and what needs to be done to fix Delaware government.

Presidents Mitch McConnell & Joe Manchin

Joe Biden would have made a pretty good President 20 years ago. The press would have liked him, and the GOP wasn’t completely bonkers yet. Oh well.

Play Offense On Your Home Field (And Act Like It)

One can focus too much on “messaging,” especially as there’s not much point in trying to call it from the sidelines, but my simple messaging advice is basically that. Act like you’re winning, that you’re winners, and the other guys are losers. Put them on defense.
People say they want “compromise” but the process of trying to get there, at least, makes you look like a wimp.

I suspect Trump, who was never popular, managed to avoid become incredibly unpopular simply by making everyone always react to him.

At the very least, the president should be the main character of the American Politics Show.

Here we are again.  You with your morning coffee probably thinking Jason330 is such a snappy writer and has such insightful insights, I’ll bet he has amazing Abs.

And it’s true, I do have amazing  pyramidalis, external obliques, internal obliques, and transversus abdominis.  To be honest, it is the first thing most people notice about me. But most people are shallow.  Not deep thinkers like you and me.

And it is your deep thinking I am depending on.  In today’s open thread, instead of a survey of today’s “news”  we will be constructing the optimal Democratic candidate from a bunch of spare parts called “One virtue from a Delaware political figure you like, and one virtue from a Delaware political figure you don’t.”

Then we’ll wait for lightning to strike and charge our Franken-candiate via their neck bolts.  But mark the rules well – one virtue from a Delaware political figure you like, and one virtue from a Delaware political figure you don’t. Adherence to rules makes the game fun for everyone.

I’ll start and take the lowest of low hanging fruit.

I have mixed feelings about this new political party [Non-Partisan Delaware] forming (congealing?) in Delaware.  I might go into why I am thusly mixed in the comments, but I also may not.  ITSAFREECOUNTRY!

Also see todays graphic (below), and let me know why Democrats can’t beat these idiots.

The graphic is campaign lit from Arizona state Sen. Wendy Rogers, who appears to be running as a stalwart protector of the rights of mass shooters.   This is commonplace among Republicans now, and since their entire platform can be reduced to:

  • Protect Mass Shooters Rights,
  • Protect Rapist Paternity Rights,
  • Increase Misery for the Poors, and
  • LOL – Fuck you!

…how is it that Democrats are floundering?

Non-Partisan Delaware is state’s newest political party

DOVER — In less than two months, Delawareans across the state will hit the ballot box to vote in the primary elections for their respective political party.
Candidates for seats in the U.S. Congress, Delaware’s House of Representatives and Senate, county councils, levy court and more had until noon July 12 to enter their name in the race for their desired seat.

For the 361,394 registered Democrats and the 209,208 registered Republican voters in the state, the primary election is about selecting which candidate is right for their party, but for members of the recently created Non-Partisan Delaware, the same cannot be said, as their candidates are locked in for the general election on Nov. 8.

On June 19, Delawareans gathered in Dover for the creation of Non-Partisan Delaware, an officially registered political party that aims to promote an open dialogue between residents to solve the issues the state is facing. The party seeks to solve these issues through “cultural and political activism,” and their top policy priorities are criminal justice reform, education and environmental protection.

As of July 1, the Non-Partisan Delaware party had amassed 1,163 registered members, which ranks fifth in members per political party in the state, trailing behind the Democratic, Republican, Independent and Libertarian parties.

I suck at blogging.  I’m still not following the news.  But this item penetrated my anti-news carapace.

Judge Charles Atchley Jr was one of the record number of federal judges appointed by former President Donald Trump and rushed into service by Chris Coons, so heck of a job there Coonsie!  Always remember that for the GOP, the cruelty is the point.  Whenever Coons waxes rhapsodic about bipartisanship, he is indeed singing the praises of cruelty.

As far as anything else happening out there in the world, you’ll have to fill me in via the comments section.

In our smaller world,  I met Lydia York  and was very impressed. Meet her yourself at an upcoming fundraiser, and donate away.

I also had saw an excellent ‘DelShakes’ production of ‘The Tempest’ put in in Rockwood Park.  Standout performances by Gerrad Alex Taylor as Caliban and Lexi Thammavong as Ariel.  Runs (Wed – Sun) through July 31st.  Buy tickets here.
