REV and Bill Cover the McGuiness Trial Part 10: Spiros! Yo, Spiros Mantzavinos..where are you scurrying off to all of a sudden?

The cold open alone is worth getting off the wallet and setting up a recurring patronage.
Beyond that Horsey is a Kent County/Eastern Shore name.  There is a Horsey Blvd in Dover.  I think Christopher Horsey was recently the Kent County (MD?) employee of the year or some shit.  Patricia Joan O. Horsey wrote a book about famous Kent Countians.   I don’t know if they are all these Horseys are related but suffice it to say that Ms Horsey must have looked at Kathy coming in from Park City Utah, with here ridiculous and illegal bullshit and thought something like, “This fucking crazy-ass bitch. Oh fuck, no.” 

Week 3 of the Kathy trial has begun. After we learn a little bit about court procedure, the state’s witnesses continue with more insight on the Lovecraftian nightmare that makes up the Office of the Auditor of Accounts. Then, Hall of Famer and DOJ Investigator Frank Robinson comes to the stand to discuss his many phone calls with Kathy whistleblowers.

Cable news has had “Roe V Wade” obituaries in the can and ready to go for months, but  there was zero White House plan for this ruling beyond the utter embarrassment of the  “give me $15 for November” fundraiser. (see video)

Oh Wait!  The White House is planning to barnstorm on this…

…hold on…, what?  It isn’t the rogue court they are going to keep in the headlines, but the economy?   (Rubs eyes…looks at bottle of whiskey in his hand… throws it in trash…)

You know what might have been a good thing to have lined up?   What about a simple yes or no vote on a national law allowing abortion in the case of rape or incest or mother’s life in danger today?    What about a law taking paternity rights away from rapists?  Why not force Republicans to say the evil shit out loud?

No.   “We Democrats could lose that vote and we would be embarrassing.”     Does anyone honestly think Dems could be more embarrassing than they are now?


Meanwhile in the “real” America we keep hearing so much about, Mike Huckabee has a kids book series that will teach your children “the real truth” about Trump that “the media is keeping from America.”  This shit is not an SNL parody.

The mainstream media has been no friend to President Trump, and they’ll never admit that he did a great job leading our country and making the changes that America needs. But, as future voters, our children and grandchildren deserve to understand the truth about President Trump and what made him a great president.


Support the First State Abortion Fund

We all know that the sisters, wives, daughters and granddaughters of Supreme Court Justices and US Senators will always have all the access to abortions and whatever reproductive health care they need.  Row v. Wade was not overturned to stop wealthy people from getting abortions.  It was overturned to beat up on poor people. Full stop.

WILMINGTON — In the wake of the U.S. Supreme Court’s devastating ruling to overturn Roe v. Wade and strip Americans of their fundamental right to abortion, reproductive rights advocates announced they have launched the First State Abortion Fund. The Fund, which operates under a reproductive justice framework, is the first abortion fund in Delaware and its mission will be to provide support for people who need access to abortion, including costs for the procedure, childcare, and transportation costs.

“Millions of people lost a fundamental human right when the U.S. Supreme Court issued its ruling,” said Sen. Kyle Evans Gay. “While Delaware has wisely protected abortion access in state law, lack of resources continues to be a barrier for far too many people seeking abortions. The First State Abortion Fund will bridge the gap for low-income people to ensure they are able to obtain the medical care they deserve.”

Today, the Supreme Court not only reversed nearly 50 years of precedent, it relegated the most intensely personal decision someone can make to the whims of politicians and ideologues—attacking the essential freedoms of millions of Americans.

You read that right.  The very guy who Coons is “proud” to call his partner, just quote tweeted Barack Obama and said that now that Roe is gone, Plessy vs Ferguson/Brown vs Board of Education should follow.

There is literally nothing they can do or say that can do to shake Coons’ faith in the goodwill of his Republican partners.

The Right to Privacy. You’ve probably heard that term a lot over the last several days. But what does it mean?

Simply stated, The Right to Privacy means a Constitutionally Guaranteed set of rights which include:
The right to be a parent.
The right to use birth control.
The right to marry who you want regardless of race, creed or gender.
The right to engage in private and consensual sexual activity in your own home.
And, yes, until last week, the right to seek an abortion (which is already statutorily protected in this State).

Do any of those rights matter to you, or the people you love?
If so, this quote from Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas (in the opinion striking down the right to have an abortion) should truly, truly terrify you:
“In future cases, we should reconsider all of this Court’s substantive due process precedents, including Griswold, Lawrence, and Obergefell,” Thomas wrote, referring to decisions on contraception, sodomy and same-sex marriage.

In Delaware, we must immediately take steps to protect The Right to Privacy – before it’s too late.

That is why Senator Sturgeon, Representatives Longhurst, Griffith, Bentz, Baumbach and Heffernan have introduced HB460 (below), which would enshrine The Right to Privacy in Delaware’s Constitution.

The most beautiful explanation of this Right comes from one of the earliest Supreme Court cases creating it:
“These matters, involving the most intimate and personal choices a person may make in a lifetime, choices central to personal dignity and autonomy, are central to the liberty protected by the Fourteenth Amendment. At the heart of liberty is the right to define one’s own concept of existence, of meaning, of the universe, and of the mystery of human life….The petitioners are entitled to respect for their private lives. The State cannot demean their existence or control their destiny by making their private sexual conduct a crime. Their right to liberty under the Due Process Clause gives them the full right to engage in their conduct without intervention of the government. ‘It is a promise of the Constitution that there is a realm of personal liberty which the government may not enter.’”

If this matters to you, your autonomy, your freedom to define what it means to be a human, then please join us in advocating for the passage of HB460.

The Republican Court of Religious Orthodoxy & Zealotry is partying like it is 1868.

Essentially, Justice Alito argued that for an unwritten liberty right to be legitimate, it must be deeply rooted in the nation’s history and have been understood to exist when the 14th Amendment was ratified in 1868. Back then, he wrote, many states had criminalized abortion and there was no understanding that women had a right to end their pregnancies.

Many people are wondering how this leaves Justice Clarance Thomas marriage to insane rightwing nutcase Ginni Thomas intact, but invoking under the well known precedent of “LOL, Fuck YOU!” Thomas seems ready to damn the torpedoes.

Biden thinks Dems need to vote HARDER!
Coons thinks this came out of the blue, (had nothing to do with the US Senate).

Lisa Blundt Rochester (rightly) thinks the work of the Republican Court of Religious Orthodoxy & Zealotry will fall “disproportionately on women of color and in rural communities across the country”  but (wrongly) thinks the answer is to VOTE HARDER.

Can someone let me know when the Democratic strategy of offering nothing to voters other than scolding admonitions to “VOTE HARDER!” has actually worked?  Because from where I’m sitting it seems like offering voters nothing except  scolding admonitions to vote harder is exactly the strategy that got us here.

 

 

REV & Bill Cover the McGuiness Trial (Day 6) – The Auditor Who Really Needed an Auditor

The very office that is charged with rooting out the state government’s “waste fraud and abuse” was a hotbed of waste fraud and abuse.

It’s 6 days in and the trial finally touches on the fact that while Kathy was doing all this shit and bringing on her daughter and her daughter’s buddy and making up loyalty oaths and misusing the state seal to glorify Kathy McGuiness, the thing she wasn’t doing was her fucking job. Now that’s not a crime, but it should be judged like one by the voters.

More witnesses on Day 6 of the Kathy McGuiness trial: more haters, more p-cards, and more hostile workplace environments. We also learn more about the man, the myth, the legend: Thomas Van Horn.

Yesterday’s Reporting from REV and Bill – They beat me to a pithy headline

“Filibusters and Frown Lines” – pretty good.  After listening, I’d have tried to bring in something that supports my previous observation that in the daily blizzard of petty corruption and laziness that is Delaware politics, it tough for the prosecutors to single out Park City’s corruption and laziness as being particularly egregious.  Perhaps – “Finding the Needle in the Needle-Stack”

But who knows, maybe the big Perry Mason moment is gestating, and the hammer of justice is about to land on McGuiness’s fat ‘ol entitled noggin,  but I doubt it.

On Day 5 of the Kathy trial, we hear from the infamous but largely innocent My Campaign Group, as well as Kathy’s infamous but largely innocent daughter. Also, why it’s hard to prosecute for a crime when everyone’s doing it.
