Yesterday Mary Cheney and her partner gave birth to a baby boy, Samuel David Cheney at 8 pounds, 6 ounces. This child marks the high point of irony for the Bush administration. And that is saying something.

Now That Falwell’s Gone, Gay Flamingos Can Adopt
I found this curious (no pun intended). There is a pair of gay flamingos in England that has been “a couple” for 6 years and they have recently adopted a chick. The hatched again flamingo movement is not happy and is crying “fowl.”
Let’s not let Cheney anywhere near them with a gun.
NYC Taxis Go Green
Michael Bloomberg has decided that New York should go green. By 2012, all 13,000 NYC taxis will be hybrids. This is the sort of thing that will make Michael Bloomberg a viable 3rd party candidate in 2008. Oh and he has set aside a billion (with a B) dollars for the potential campaign. He makes Mitt look like one of those cell-phone-havin’ $200-basketball-shoe-wearin’ “poor” people that some of our readers are so fond of.

McCain Fires at Romney
McCain has taken a shot at Mitt’s immigration policy with this classic line.
Maybe Mitt should get out his small varmint gun and chase those Guatemalans off his yard.
I love it. How much crap did Kerry get for going hunting and holding the gun in an unusual way. Now that Mitt has floated to the top, we should see him getting some of this from the other candidates.
Dems Can Reform Government, Yes They Can!
Looks like we are finally seeing some honest-to-goodness, rubber-meets-the-road reform from our Democratic leadership. You want pork prevention, how about John Murtha being upbraided by a fellow Democrat for pork-barreling? I hope this will mark the beginning of the end of the earmark era of Congress. We are walking the walk. Thank you, Speaker Pelosi.
Battle of the Blogs is On
Over at First State Lunatics, Dave Burris has recognized the superiority of DelawareLiberal.net. As an homage to our excellent situation here, Dave has added some brethren of his own. MOTNewbie has changed his name to MOTSmitty. A new blogger named Jeff Mapson goes by the name AboveTheCanalPolitics. We here at DelawareLiberal.Net welcome these guys to the blogosphere. It’s going to be a fun summer.
Comments on Vance Phillips’ “Rousing Speech”
Over at FSP, Dave Burris has posted the text of a speech given by Vance Phillips yesterday, but he closed the comments. I believe this is symbolic of how the Republicans like it. Top-down leadership. We don’t want to hear what people think about it this. It’s just a press release.
Well, luckily, you can comment on Vance’s speech here.
Update: Looks like FSP has opened the comments section. Good show.
Canal Little League “Molester” Just Like Most MLB Players
There was this big story a few weeks ago on KYW (make sure to watch the video) about a child-molester on the loose in Newark. The story goes that the guy groped the boy before a game. The police were called and an investigation ensued.
Turns out that the father of an opposing team gave the MLB pat on the back, which happens to be a pat on the behind. I am still getting conflicting stories on the context (before the game or after a good play), but it does seem that this is the case of the media, the police and parents getting themselves worked up over nothing. Or perhaps there is just a lot of groping on Sportscenter every night…
How Long Can Gonzo Survive?
Soon-to-be-ex Attorney General Alberto Gonzales is just about cooked. Lying to Congress is a big no-no. He has done this on at least two occasions. This week come the revelations that Gonzales actually made John Ashcroft seem like a sympathetic character. Let that sink in.
So here is an idea that I saw someone float at one of the big liberal blogs (TPM or Kos). Let’s get Gonzo in front of one of the committees and ask him the tough questions. If he says “I don’t know” or takes too long to answer, we waterboard his ass. Or perhaps we can hook car battery terminals to various body parts. This is our democracy we are talking about here. I have it on good authority that our democracy is worth torturing for.

Colm Connelly Made the “Bad Bushie” List
I gotta give Colm Connelly some credit. He was at one time considered for firing (Colm was on the list on Nov 1, 2006). This puts him in a better light, certainly. But I wonder if he had to “clean up his act” to keep the job. Anyone out there been charged with voter fraud?
Blair to Replace Wolfie?
I have to admit, I am intrigued by the possibility that Tony Blair (or if you are the President “Hey Blair”) could be the next World Bank president. There is a certain elegance to the whole thing. We have always appointed the World Bank president, but now we might be out of American political capital. It is time to spend some more of the Brit’s capital. It might also ‘splain why Wolfie is sticking around until June. Of perhaps we can just put John Bolton in there.
Around the Horn Friday: We Put the Con in NeoCon Edition
Finally a Bush appointee is held accountable for their behavior. It can’t be easy to find a woman willing to put up with you if you are Wolfowitz, but stay legal. Good thing she didn’t want him to kill someone.
The Princess Blogger Celia Cohen kicked off a debate about the most anticipated Delaware matchup since the cancelled Carper/Castle battle that never was. Jason covered it here and garnered the most hits for a single story that I can find. Tommywonk has one of the definitive posts on the subject including a smackdown of Dave Burris and his bravado about how Alan Levin scares the Dems. I like both of ’em and one will be the next Guv’ner.
Of course, the death of Jerry Falwell kicked up as much controversy locally as he did when he was alive and lying. No tears are shed over at Delaware Watch. It is way worse than that over at DWA.
Thankfully, wind is still a hot topic. Nancy covers Denn’s Kabuki dance reference. Tommywonk debunks Minner’s ill-considered compromise. Dana jumps all over the BS union resistance myth. Finally, Kavips brings it all together and puts it in context of quality of life.
Mike Mahaffie has a post about a womans dying wish. Sounds like a good idea.
Over at Pencader Days, Duffy has a post describing some of the difficulties of raising a child with autism. As a former teacher in the Autism Program, I read a lot that brought back memories of those days.
MOT Newbie continues his mission of posting after Around the Horn goes to press. So in honor of him, please support the mail carriers food drive last Saturday.
Happy 21st Ryan Mc at Liberal Delight.
Protack is asking for suggestions about what to do with the Chrysler plant. Finally, I agree with Mike. Hey Mike, while you are at it, get MD to extend the MARC up here and we can make the Chrysler plant a regional tech hub.
FSP has an invite to meet his man Mitt at a BBQ in Greenville on June 1. $15 gets you an audience with Mitt and all the direct mail you can eat for the next 2 years.
Finally, Paul Smith and I agree on something. Sayid is the brains of the outfit on LOST.
Over at JttR Ryan S is mirepresenting Democratic views of Al Qaeda. SSDD.
Kilroy is pointing out what is at stake with the Red Clay referendum. If Fulcher gets his way, Red Clay might collapse. Hube points out some more insanity with Fulcher. Fulcher taught?!?!
By the way, a minimum of 63,929 civilians have been killed in Iraq since we attacked. Another 3400 American personnel have been killed in this bullshit war. Enjoy your weekend.
