Next Wednesday, John Kowalko’s House Energy Committee will conduct a hearing to investigate the cost structure being used by Delmarva Power to install “smart meters” in homes in Delaware.  In Delaware, the cost of installing these are borne by the ratepayer, whereas in other states, Delmarva picks up the cost. According to the press release, […]

This evening, Rich Griffiths will kick off his campaign to unseat Dick Cathcart in the 9th RD.  Rich is a great candidate.  I have met him several times, and he is earnest, organized and focused on winning in November. Rich will make his official announcement this evening at 6:30 PM at the Corbit-Sharpe Residence in […]

Oilpocalypse: Who Should Pay?

Filed in National by on May 18, 2010 27 Comments

I started a small Twitter war last night when I suggested that perhaps we should tax gasoline to pay for the cleanup of the oil volcano in the Gulf. BP is statutorily limited to $75M in damages for a spill.  I suspect that they will end up paying more than that voluntarily, but they will, […]

Republican Convention Today

Filed in National by on May 15, 2010 17 Comments

You are to be forgiven if you have no idea that the Republicans are meeting today to give out party endorsements.  I have only really seen it discussed on the blogs on the other side of the political spectrum.  But the comments section of those threads have been highly entertaining. The local tea partiers like […]

Filed in Delaware by on May 12, 2010 41 Comments

Jason330 and Donviti have created their latest podcast.  Just like U2’s album, Pop, it is over-engineered and over-produced.  Nonetheless, it is available here for your enjoyment. The words that Jason used to describe this episode are: Michael Castle, Secret word, puff knuckle, RSmitty, Donviti = asshole, not haters, Stroke, Jet Magazine, Gandolf, Anson Williams, Vasectomy, […]

Donviti and Jason330 Sittin’ in a Tree

Filed in National by on May 5, 2010 22 Comments

In a bolt out of the blue, Jason called me today and asked me to put up a podcast that he and Donviti put together on a variety of subjects. It’s like cats and dogs sleeping together.

Here are the “tags” that Jason asked me to include in the post (verbatim):

Guest Post: A Eulogy for Chris White

Filed in National by on April 23, 2010 17 Comments

From Representative John Kowalko (D-Newark):

I’ve known Chris White for over four years, working with him intimately over a nine month period to produce the Foreclosure Mediation Program. No one brought more knowledge, enthusiasm and dedication to crafting the successful creation of that program and, simply put, it probably would not exist today without Chris.

A Tale of Two Senators

Filed in Delaware, National by on April 21, 2010 4 Comments

I don’t know if you caught the story in the News Journal this morning featuring the work that Senator Kaufman is doing on financial reform.  He talks passionately about dismantling Too Big To Fail and reinstating much of the Glass-Steagall act. By contrast, Tom Carper (the one we are stuck with) is already back-pedaling on […]

Filed in National by on April 15, 2010 59 Comments

What would you say if I told you that the President of The Sussex County Council was paid $5,000 in salary by the largest developer in Sussex County?  Sounds pretty fishy, eh?  Well that is exactly what developer and Republican candidate for US Congress Glenn Urquhart is doing with his campaign funds. Let’s review.  Glenn […]

My Interview With Karen Weldin Stewart Post-Hearing

Filed in National by on April 13, 2010 22 Comments

I ask KWS about the resignation of her controller yesterday.  I also ask about contractors v. state employees.  I probably shouldn’t have helped her find the answers, but let me know what you think.
