Delaware Democratic Convention Open Thread

Filed in Delaware, Open Thread by on June 9, 2012 12 Comments

The convention is taking place right now in Dover. The convention has already brought us some the surprising news of Mitch Crane’s endorsement. The rest of the convention will be devoted to selecting delegates to the National Convention in Charlotte later this summer. Then tonight, the Jeffereson-Jackson Dinner will be held, with Newark Mayor Cory Booker giving the keynote speech.

Please use this thread for any more news, and as your open thread for the day.

PDD President Paul Baumbach files for the 23rd RD.

the race is definitely on to replace her on the Democratic side at least. Paul Baumbach, the President of the Progressive Democrats for Delaware, announced his candidacy here on Delaware Liberal, and officially filed. Jerry Grant has also filed, thus, progressives have a genuine win-win situation here, and a golden opportunity for the rare of rarities: a positive campaign about ideas.

Filed in Delaware by on June 9, 2012 6 Comments

The New Castle County Democratic Party yesterday announced its endorsement of Mitch Crane in the Democratic Primary for Insurance Commissioner. This is a surprise to me, as I had heard that Karen might have had some support among their ranks. At best, I expected a non-endorsement.

Campaign finance reform passed the Senate yesterday, and heads to the Governor. My sophisticated analysis can be summed up as follows: HB 300(Gilligan), good. HB 310(Longhurst), bad, but nowhere near as important as HB 300. It’s really kinda like a hitchhiker, with 300 driving the car. And so insubstantial that 300 probably wouldn’t ask for gas money.

Kids, if you’re as alarmed at that last paragraph as I am, you can do something about it. I fear that I am in the early stages of TAS (Tortured Analogy Syndrome)

DL Tracking Poll — Carper leads all, but will a Green-Libertarian alliance boost Groff?

Filed in Delaware by on June 7, 2012 35 Comments

So apparently, the Delaware Libertarian Party has endorsed Green Party candidate Andrew Groff for the U.S. Senate. Many people are looking for a third option to Tom Carper and the Republican Party, and Alex Pires seems too teabaggerish and anti-Democratic.

So is Andrew Groff the longed-for option?

Bennett to Retire

Filed in Delaware by on June 5, 2012 11 Comments

He is speaking on the House floor right now, announcing his decision not to run again.

This is not unexpected. The man has a drinking problem, evidenced by two DUI arrests over three years. Given his latest arrest, the one where he crashed into a police car, he just could not run again, and if he did, he would lose the seat.
