General Assembly Post-Game Wrap-Up/Pre-Game Show: Thurs., June 7, 2012
Campaign finance reform passed the Senate yesterday, and heads to the Governor. My sophisticated analysis can be summed up as follows: HB 300(Gilligan), good. HB 310(Longhurst), bad, but nowhere near as important as HB 300. It’s really kinda like a hitchhiker, with 300 driving the car. And so insubstantial that 300 probably wouldn’t ask for gas money.
Kids, if you’re as alarmed at that last paragraph as I am, you can do something about it. I fear that I am in the early stages of TAS (Tortured Analogy Syndrome)
DL Tracking Poll — Carper leads all, but will a Green-Libertarian alliance boost Groff?
So apparently, the Delaware Libertarian Party has endorsed Green Party candidate Andrew Groff for the U.S. Senate. Many people are looking for a third option to Tom Carper and the Republican Party, and Alex Pires seems too teabaggerish and anti-Democratic.
So is Andrew Groff the longed-for option?
Bennett to Retire
He is speaking on the House floor right now, announcing his decision not to run again.
This is not unexpected. The man has a drinking problem, evidenced by two DUI arrests over three years. Given his latest arrest, the one where he crashed into a police car, he just could not run again, and if he did, he would lose the seat.
DL Tracking Poll: Denn Leads by Landslide Margins
The spammers were not out in force during this poll of the Lt. Governor’s race, so I guess we have a more accurate reflection of our readers’ views on the race. Now, normal caveats apply: this is a non-random unscientific internet poll. But, DL readers favor incumbent Lt. Governor Matt Denn (D) over Republican Sher Valenzuela by a 53 point margin, 72% to 19%.
Price to Officially Kick Off Her Candidacy this Saturday [38th RD]
We get press releases! While we knew the former Representative Shirley Price was going to be running, but now it’s official.
Shirley Price, a life-long resident of the 38th Representative District, will kick off her campaign to represent the 38th in the Delaware House of Representatives at 10 AM on Saturday, June 9th at the Roxana Fire Hall.
Progressive Influence at the State Convention
The state Democratic convention is coming up this Satursday, June 9. If you are a delegate from your Represenative District, and if you consider yourself a progressive, then please make sure you come to the Progressive Democrats for Delaware’s monthly meeting this Wednesday, on June 6, at 7 pm at the Delaware Democratic Party HQ’s, 19 E. Commons Blvd, in New Castle.
Taking the Klown Kar Show on the Road
It seems as though Delaware isn’t a big enough stage for the egotistical would be lawman, Sussex County Sheriff Jeff Christopher. Now his show is going on the road. Granted it isn’t very far, only over to Carroll County, MD, but it seems as though Jeff needs to take his grifter antics to empty the […]
The Polling Report [6.1.12]
Not much new today. Washington State is confirmed a strong Obama state. So is New York. Rasmussen has a poll of Ohio that only shows Romney up by two, so in the real world, that means Obama is up by 4, given the weighted bias of Rasmussen polling.
UPDATED: Moving School Board Elections To The General
After this last school board election I think I’m ready for this. There is draft legislation, sponsored by Rep. Longhurst, that would align public school board elections with general elections.
