Highlands Bunker – E43 – A Place to Be Somebody

Filed in National by on December 1, 2019 1 Comment

Ed Note: I’ve been working Saturdays and Sundays, so the normal pace of the week is all fucked up for me. My days roll north to south, then east to west like an unsecured can of pears on a boat in heavy seas. My life doesn’t have the rhythms I’ve come to expect since entering kindergarten. Also, because I am a patreon supporter, I got this episode early. I may be posting it here late, I may be early. I’m really not sure. .

Super-producer emeritus Margaret Hurejoins RE Vanella in the bunker to talk about her experience as a child of immigrants, how she ended up in Delaware activism, and how the city of Wilmington comes across to a newcomer.

R.E. Vanella released this post 4 days early for patrons.

Spread the Love this Very Happy Thanksgiving

DL sends a very heartfelt thank you to ur DL family of commenters, lurkers, hate-readers.  I don’t know about you guys but I’m more thankful and optimistic this Thanksgiving than I’ve been for years.

We have Republicans and Republican enabling toadies like Coons on the run on many fronts, and no matter what – we are going  to have a strong Democratic candidate endorsing broadly popular progressive initiatives in the election next year.

If you agree, here are some great candidates to support and help spread the winning vibes:

To help Jess Scarane beat Republican enabling toady, Coons,  donate here.

Give a few bucks to Larry Lambert here.

Coons plots with GOP to hamstring future Dem majorities

Coons plots with GOP to hamstring future Dem majorities

Coons must be very worried that Democrats are going to retake the Senate. How else can you explain him handing Mitch McConnell veto power over Democratic initiatives in the event of a Blue Wave? And how else can you explain Coons preemptively conspiring with his GOP buddies to hamstring Democratic initiatives by enacting automatic cuts […]

The Knives Are Still Out for Bernie

Filed in National by on November 26, 2019 0 Comments

We hear more fretting about Elizabeth Warren* from establishment types, but make no mistake, Bernie Sanders is the person corporate-loving Democrats most fear and loathe. Politico provides two examples today. First, in Ryan Lizza’s worth-a-read feature about the shadow Barack Obama casts over the Democratic primary field, he includes the nugget that Obama stood ready […]

Hunter & Tucker

Hunter & Tucker

Tucker Carlson disclosed that he knows and likes Hunter Biden, which is very damning evidence of Hunter Biden’s low character. Worse than anything I’ve heard so far. And unlike most things Carlson says, it is totally believable. Dem and Republican elites have much more in common with each other than they have with us. Hunter […]

Working across the aisle is not inherently a problem

Working across the aisle is not inherently a problem

This is spot on.

Working across the aisle is not inherently a problem. The problem is when you make compromises that hurt the people you are supposed to represent.

Too often, that is what happens when our elected officials talk about “bipartisan solutions.” What they really mean is “we sold you out to protect corporate interests.” Chris Coons has taken nearly half a million dollars from the pharmaceutical industry so far this election, and he is currently sponsoring a *bipartisan* bill that would strengthen pharmaceutical company monopolies and keep drug prices high.

I don’t agree with that. I think our Senators should work for US, not the pharmaceutical companies. That’s why I’m refusing all corporate pac, pharma executive, and lobbyist money. – Jessica Scarene

Coons tries to frame his *bipartisanship* as “good government” when it actually only good for his corporate constituents.  Coons style bipartisanship has nothing to do with good government and everything to do with wrapping up corporate welfare in the flag and demanding everyone salute.

Trump, Rudy, Bolton & Mulvaney Discuss Impeachment Strategy

Rudy Giuliani, twice “joked” that he has “insurance” in the event Trump tries to make him the fall guy in the Ukraine affaire.

In a telephone interview with the Guardian, in response to a question about whether he was nervous that Trump might “throw him under a bus” in the impeachment crisis, Giuliani said: “I’m not, but I do have very, very good insurance, so if he does, all my hospital bills will be paid.”

Then again on Fox News he then touted what he called a “very, very good relationship” with Trump before dropping the insurance reminder:

“I’ve seen things written like he’s going to throw me under the bus. When they say that, I say he isn’t, but I have insurance,” Giuliani told Fox News’s Ed Henry.

DL Readers & Lurkers Presidential Instant-runoff Voting

The sidebar poll doesn’t reveal much, so put your top three choices in the comments section and we’ll run an “Instant-runoff voting” poll. (e.g. Biden, Klobuchar, Buttigieg)

Ballots will be initially counted for each commenter’s top choice. If a candidate has more than half of the vote based on first-choices, that candidate wins.

If not, then the candidate with the fewest votes is eliminated. The commenters who selected the defeated candidate as a first choice will have their votes added to the totals of their next choice.

This process will continue until a candidate has more than half of the votes.

Me: Why don’t we get a little money from all the very rich guys?

Him: We can’t get even a little money from all the very rich guys because that is evil Socialism.

Me: So American was an evil socialist country from the end of World War II until about 25 years ago?

Looks like the RNC paid $94,800 to Books-a-Million to make it look like Don Trump Jr.’s book was selling

Tweets New York Times investigative reporter Nick Confessore today: New FEC disclosures show a single large RNC payment of $94,800 to Books-a-Million in October, a few days before “Triggered” was released. An RNC spokesman confirmed that the expenditure was connected to their promotion of Don Trump Jr.’s book. Purpose of disbursement: donor mementos.
