Democratic Party = Morons Inc.

Filed in National by on June 2, 2019 10 Comments

The most depressing aspect of watching the slow-motion self-pwning of the Democratic Party is that it doesn’t have to be this way. There’s plenty of data out there to show that all those gut feelings about running to the center is a strategy that no longer works. The most convincing, if the hardest to understand, […]

Pelosi is a political genius, but even geniuses can be wrong

At the risk of being repetitive, Nancy Pelosi is not weak but perception is everything in politics. I agree that there are risks involved but life is full of risks and impeachment is the only option we have to establish that the Current Occupant is NOT above the law. If he’s impeached and acquitted by […]

For Dem big thinkers, it is 2016 all over again

Charlie Cook speaking to jittery DC Dem consultants and spineless Chris Coons types, says that it isn’t “base motivation” OR “reach out to the middle” but it is “base motivation” AND “reach out to the middle.”

I guess that’s progress of a sort. Still wrong, but progress. The real winning formula is “base motivation” THEN “the middle will reach out to you.”

If you don’t know by now that “the middle” is a bunch of sheep that will go with whoever has the momentum, then you are too stupid or too mobbed up in the status quo to bother with.

Anyway, it is hard to fathom the fact that we are still contending with this bullshit.

Just fucking drop out already

Just fucking drop out already

For the DNC’s third party-sanctioned debate in September a candidate must clear both of these hurdles:

1) 2% support in four national or early voting state polls
2) 130,000 unique donors to their campaign, including 400 unique donors from at least 20 states

Some campaigns don’t like it, to them I say “lump it.” If you can’t get to 2% and some basic support in 20 states please feel free to fuck the fuck off.

Most declined to discuss their frustration with the D.N.C.’s rules on the record or to indicate how exactly they would shift tactics, saying their campaign plans were confidential. But campaign after campaign said the party’s donor requirements are skewing the way they allocate resources, forcing them to choose between investing in staff or pouring more money into ads on sites like Facebook, where prices are soaring to dizzying new heights. Two campaigns said digital vendors are currently quoting them prices of $40 and up to acquire a new $1 donor.

…and if your best idea for building support is placing $40.00 FB adds, please quit AND go into hiding.

I’ve been thinking about getting an electric car

I’ve been thinking about getting an electric car

The off lease Fiat500E and Chevy SparkEV are two low milage used cars with great price points.  They both look good in the reviews I’ve watched.  Both have (around) 80 mile ranges.  My commute is 22 miles.  Because I’d be charging over night, I don’t think I’d have to install a Level 2 charging system for speed charging.  And I wouldn’t be using this for long trips, just communting.

BUT – I don’t have solar, so would I just be robbing Peter (Exxon) to pay Paul (Delmarva Power)?   How much does it actually cost to go electric?

The literature says to figure out my cost of charging at home, multiply my vehicle’s kWh/100 miles figure by my electric rate.  That figure will give me the cost per 100 miles.  I’ve risked humilation by running the numbers and showing my work below.  It looks CRAZILY in favor of going electric, but you may have sensed that I don’t trust my math.  Are there any science types out there who have crunched the numbers?

Anyone plugging in at night, and by passing the pump?

Hit me up in the comments, or IRL.

Why Chasing Lost Democrats Is a Fool’s Errand

Simply put, because that’s not where the votes are. Those voters tend to be older, a pool shrinking faster than the Aral Sea. Pew Research Center has released a report that found younger generations outvoted Boomers again in 2018, after doing so for the first time in 2016. Those younger voters were also the reason […]

Song of the Day 5/31: Leon Redbone, “Diddy Wah Diddy”

Filed in Arts and Entertainment, National by on May 31, 2019 0 Comments

Leon Redbone died Thursday. As best anyone could tell, he was 69. Most people first saw him on TV in the mid-’70s, maybe on Saturday Night Live or the Tonight Show. He usually came on with the briefest of introductions, sometimes alone, sometimes accompanied by, say, a single clarinet, a droll, mysterious man out of […]

Lisa Blunt Rochester Would Like You To Know the She is In Washington DC…”working”

In fact, she is not only working but “leading”

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Congresswoman Lisa Blunt Rochester (DE-AL), issued the following statement after voting to pass H.R. 1994, the Setting Every Community Up for Retirement Enhancement (SECURE) Act of 2019. The SECURE Act would make significant reforms to help ensure Americans obtain a financially sound retirement. The bill includes the Increasing Access to a Secure Retirement Act, a key provision led by Reps. Blunt Rochester and Tim Walberg that will make it easier for small businesses to offer annuities as part of an employee’s retirement benefits package. Rep. Blunt Rochester is also co-sponsor of the Secure Act, which passed with broad bipartisan support in a 417-3 vote.

Good to know.

Who is your VP pick?

Who is your VP pick?

The VP spot should go to the person who comes in 2nd. That campaign has all the juice and enthusiastic supporters, keep them working, right? But nobody listens to me.

So who do you like for the VP spot? I like Mayor Pete, Senator Harris, Senator Warren and Joe Biden could actually make a good VP. I guess if I had to pick one from them, I think Mayor Pete has the go for the jugular instinct a VP needs.

Oh Lord – The Joe Biden campaign is living in a Clintonesque disreality bubble

Filed in National by on May 29, 2019 45 Comments

In 2016 two candidates had impressive attendance numbers at speeches. One of them was Trump, the other wasn’t the eventual Dem nominee. There is no denying that pitiful crowd size is a bad sign, so as Duncan Black noted, you don’t even have to dislike Biden to cringe at this bullshit. To Biden’s campaign, attendance […]

Capitalism Is Now A Legitimate Diagnosis, Says World Health Organization

Capitalism is now classified as “a syndrome conceptualized as resulting from chronic workplace stress that has not been successfully managed,” according to WHO. The stress, depression and lack of feeling in control that comes with capitalism are finally being formally recognized by the medical community: Capitalism is now an official workplace syndrome. The International Classification […]
