Song of the Day 1/17: The Contours, “First I Look at the Purse”

Filed in National by on January 17, 2019 0 Comments

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=frCr6eq2Vfc I quoted the title of this song the other day with a friend whose knowledge of ’50s and ’60s music is deeper than mine and was surprised when he said he had never heard it. So here it is. Smokey Robinson co-wrote it, but these might be the least romantic lyrics he ever had […]

I love Bernie Sanders

I love Bernie Sanders

Bernie would have beaten Clinton if the nominating process was fair and transparent. It wasn’t, but it is better now thanks to the work Sanders put in after the nomination was decided.

The Democratic Party is better for having Bernie Sanders in it on it.
I also love who wins the Democratic nomination provided the contest is fair and transparent.

If You Think the News Journal Is Bad Now, Just Wait

Filed in Delaware, National by on January 16, 2019 8 Comments

Here’s a bit of national business-page news you won’t see in your local upstate daily paper: Gannett, which owns the News Journal, has become the target of a hostile takeover bid by Alden Global Capital, a notorious hedge fund that operates a journalistic chop shop. It’s the outfit that bought the Denver Post and laid […]

Song of the Day 1/16: Randy Rainbow, “There Is Nothin’ Like a Wall”

Filed in National by on January 16, 2019 2 Comments

You probably know about Randy Rainbow, the pre-eminent political musical parodist of the Trump age. He released this one two days ago and it’s gotten 360,000 plays on YouTube already. The set-up on this one is a mock interview with “RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 3 finalist” Mike Pence. The music starts at 1:14.

Song of the Day 1/15: “Pretty Pimpin,” Kurt Vile

Filed in National by on January 15, 2019 0 Comments

It’s hard to explain Kurt Vile to someone who’s never heard him before. There’s a lo-fi vibe that runs through most of his work that, along with his penchant for goofy lyrics, reminds me of Pavement. Most of his songs are built on a repeating riff, but few are as catchy as “Pretty Pimpin,” from […]

National Prayer Breakfast not giving up the speakers list

Filed in National by on January 15, 2019 3 Comments

Hi Brandon, I got your name and email from Sean Coit of Senator Coons’ office.  He said that you would be the person to ask for the speaker’s list for the upcoming National Prayer Breakfast.   If that is available, or even a link to a page is available, I’d be eager to get that information.  […]

Open Thread – Wall of Hamburgers & How the hell did Carper, Coons and Rochester write this OpEd and not Mention Mitch McConnell?

Open Thread – Wall of Hamburgers & How the hell did Carper, Coons and Rochester write this OpEd and not Mention Mitch McConnell?

I’m seriously asking. Mitch McConnell is keeping this shut down alive, but he (somehow) doesn’t exist as far as TC, CC, & LBR are concerned. Today, our country is in the midst of the longest government shutdown in our history. Any government shutdown puts our economy at risk, jeopardizes our national security and ceases critical […]

Dispatches From the ‘Biden 2020’ Front

Filed in National by on January 14, 2019 14 Comments

Those of us who would prefer Joe Biden support the 2020 Democratic candidate than be the 2020 candidate — show of hands — are having a nervous week, at least in the media. New York Times columnist David Leonhardt implored Joe to run, though without endorsing him: My argument is that nobody — not the […]

Shootings Down in Wilmo, Self-Congratulations Way Up

Something appears to be working. Wilmington police and government officials celebrated a steep decline in citywide gun violence Thursday, marking a 60 percent decline in shooting victims with a press event which included a brief look at one of the new strategies they said made it possible. Media was allowed into a portion of the […]

What Your Tax Dollars Are Doing Instead of Working for You

Filed in National by on January 14, 2019 4 Comments

Joe DiStefano of the Philadelphia Inquirer does what the News Journal doesn’t have the manpower or inclination to do: Hold the feet of Delaware’s corrupt Democratic Party to the fire. Last week he attended a New Castle County Council meeting with the Philadelphia traders who set up the Delaware Board of Trade — the one […]

Chris Coons Implicated in Helping Russian Spies Create Back-Channel Connections with U.S. Policy-Makers

Filed in National by on January 13, 2019 22 Comments

The National Prayer Breakfast became a nexus for spies and traitors under the Chairmanship of Delaware Senator Chris Coons. That is a well-established fact. But was Coons a pawn or did he and his organization actively participate in the conspiracy to undermine the United States? Now we have the smoking gun which ties Chris Coons and his organization directly to the conspiracy to create create back-channel connections between Russian Intelligence Services and U.S. Policy-Makers.

Open Thread – Maths, Megaball & I love Julian Castro

Filed in National by on January 13, 2019 7 Comments

I’m not a budget expert, but I think it is going to cost the government a shit load of money to start up stuff that shouldn’t have been shut down in the first place.

But money doesn’t matter to Republicans or Dems like Tom Carper. Money is always available for bombs and bad ideas. Now then, if you are trying to get a paltry $100,000 for a program to help poor people not get the measles. In those instances, the $100,000 must be offset with tax cuts. Otherwise…budget CRISIS!!!!

Someone is Delaware can now pay off their student loans and/or hospital bills.

A Delaware Lottery-purchased ticket matched all five white balls drawn: 04-05-31-62-69. The ticket did not match the gold Megaball: 20. The Megaplier was 3.

The vendor for the winning ticket has not yet been announced by the Delaware Lottery.

Trump is a Russian Operative.

Trump is a Russian Operative.

We’ve all known this. Even Republicans know that Trump is a Russian operative. They simply don’t care. President Trump has gone to extraordinary lengths to conceal details of his conversations with Russian President Vladimir Putin, including on at least one occasion taking possession of the notes of his own interpreter and instructing the linguist not […]
