Question of the Day
Will support for or against Trump in 2016 become the litmus test for future Republican candidates, the way the Iraqi War vote was in the 2008 Democratic Presidential Primary?

I tend to ignore Kathy McGuinness because her campaign is not credible, and because I tend to think that BHL is an odds on favorite to win. Still, our next…

Just how badly did Trump blow his convention? The Fix: “Before the conventions, the plurality of support each candidate received was thanks to people who wanted to vote against the alternative. In other words, most people who said they were backing Hillary Clinton were backing her because they wanted to see Trump lose, and vice versa.”
“After the conventions, though, that changed: A slight plurality of Clinton supporters now back her because they want her to be the president. Trump’s position improved slightly — but the percentage of support he gets from people who are doing so out of enthusiasm for his candidacy is still lower than the percent who said that about Clinton before the conventions began. Before the conventions, 57 percent of those who backed Trump did so because they opposed Clinton; after the conventions, that figure was 56 percent.”

“In the intelligence business, we would say that Mr. Putin had recruited Mr. Trump as an unwitting agent of the Russian Federation.” — Former CIA Director Michael Morell, writing in the New York Times.

When Speaker Paul Ryan was asked by Charlie Sykes whether there’s anything that would cause him to rescind his endorsement of Donald Trump. he said, “Of course.” But he wouldn’t say what that is. Said Ryan: “Where that line gets crossed, I don’t know where that is.”
So everything that has come before is endorsed by Ryan, the leader of the GOP. Which means all Republicans are just fine with banning Muslims, being racist towards Latinos and Blacks, dishonoring Gold Star families, and using nuclear weapons.
Memories
Remember way back last August when it was reported that Bill Clinton flattered and cajoled Trump into running for the GOP nomination?
Man oh man, I was happy and excited at first because Trump was certain to turn the GOP nominating process into a train wreck wrapped in a clown show. Then, after he inexplicably WON the nomination I was nervous because I thought Trump, with all his showmanship, might be tough to beat. Now I'm back to being happy and excited.
What It Means
Some may say Drive-By Truckers are the best Southern rock'n roll band since Lynyrd Skynyrd, but that is an incredible disservice to the Truckers, since they are probably the most important American rock'n roll band over the last 15 years. They are coming out with a new album in September called American Band. Their second single is What It Means, an examination of US society today.
