Monday Open Thread [12.30.13]

2013 was a brutal year for me personally, and for our nation. Tomorrow, I am going to kick this year in the ass as it heads out the door. But Andrew Sullivan, while taking note of the horror of 2013, looks on some of the bright side of the year that was. And Eugene Robinson discusses that how Obamacare, now that it is a reality that is here to stay, is dividing the Republican Party horribly.

Be Here (And There) For 2013 MVP Awards!

Once again, I shall simultaneously announce the 2013 MVP Winners (Delaware's most valuable to the progressive cause) here at Delaware Liberal and live on the Al Mascitti Show, 10 am to 12 noon on WDEL 1150 AM.  This happens on Tuesday, December 31, New Year's Eve Day. Check out the blog around 10, and either click on your radio or stream live here. It will be lively, celebratory, and perhaps a bit impertinent. In other words, a perfect early New Year's Eve celebration.

Well, Pope Francis removed Cardinal Burke from the Congreation of Bishops, which has great influence on finding the future leaders of the church. And it would seem that Burke's public statements about denying communion are the reason why. Here is Pope Francis' thoughts on the openness of the Church in his Evangelii Gaudium....
Income Inequality

Income Inequality

You know income inequality is getting to be a big topic when even Joe Scarborough of Morning Joe talks about it fervently this morning. Of course, he falls back on the tried and true conservative position that we can't raise taxes ever on anything, and the expert guest agreed. Um, why can't we? New data from the IRS shows that the wealthiest Americans have seen their share of taxes decline rather significantly under Obama.

Wilmo News Journal TV ? It can’t suck worse than it does now

I'm not sure what this acquisition news means for NCC's news producers (Hi Chip!) and consumers, but Gannett sure was sitting on a pile of cash. Also, (since this is a blog post about media) let me take this opportunity to mention, yet again, that Sussex county has better TV media coverage than New Castle County.
