Comment Rescue – Is it even possible to get a decent human being to be Secretary of Finance?

The comment below, by Former Representative John Kowalko, reminded me of Chomsky’s observation that journalism cannot be a check on corporate power because the very system that produces journalists encourages complicity. Journalist themselves are the product of a lengthy vetting process to ensure only people who stick to the corporate line get to ask any […]

Song of the Day 4/13: Eric Clapton, “Let It Rain”

Filed in Arts and Entertainment, National by on April 13, 2023 0 Comments

Fort Lauderdale got two feet of rain in about 6 hours yesterday, so I think this should be the city’s new tourism song/slogan. Eric Clapton included this now-classic track on his first solo album in 1970. When released as a single until two years later, to promote his compilation LP “Eric Clapton at this Best,” […]

Rethug Judges Giveth, Taketh Away.  Modify Kaszmaryk’s abortion pill ruling, but push to halt access to the pill: In its order, the appellate panel said the F.D.A.’s approval of mifepristone could stand because too much time had passed for the plaintiffs, a consortium of groups and doctors opposed to abortion, to challenge that decision. The […]

Maps

Trump is a visual guy.  It stands to reason that he would get a tiny boner over a map with classified info on it, and show it off to his lickspittles, flunkies and agents of hostile governments who hang out at Mar-a–Lago.

Huckabee Sanders Gives a Glimpse of Kathy McGuiness Governorship

Filed in National by on April 13, 2023 3 Comments

With hindsight, it is funny to think that McGuiness once considered herself someone with a real shot at being Governor of the State of Delaware. What would that have even looked like? Arkansas gives us a bit of a glimpse.

Sarah Sanders asks state board applicants to name what they admire about her most while applying for job

Looking to serve your state in some official capacity? First, kiss the ring,” wrote Austin Bailey. “The application form you must fill out to be considered for a post on state boards and commissions includes this question: ‘What is an accomplishment of the Governor’s that you admire the most?'”

As Bailey noted, this portion of the questionnaire allows a full 500 words — which is twice the length of the question, “What book have you read that would best define your life and why?”

Swimming pools and lavish gardens of the rich are driving water shortages, study says

When the Colorado River runs dry, we’ll still have  BRAWNDO!    It’s got what plants crave! It’s got electrolytes. Enlarge this image A new research study says that maintaining backyard pools, like this one pictured in Los Angeles in August, 2005, are one way that rich city dwellers are over-consuming water. Republicans want sluts and whores to die

It is really that simple. There is no need to negotiate with the “pro-life” liars who try to disguise their hatred of woman by saying that they are protecting “the children.” Give me a break. Anyone looking at the overlap between “pro-life” and “pro-gun” can clearly see that they don’t give a fuck about “the […]

Meredith Newman Commits Journalism

Filed in Delaware, Featured by on April 12, 2023 17 Comments

ProPublica-caliber journalism right here in the News-Journal.  We’re talking malign neglect–in assisted living facilities–and in the disgraceful response by the budget-smoothing lackeys of the Carney Administration.  Read the piece, if you can (the work of the 3 or 4 legit reporters on staff is why I subscribe). Newman first frames the story through the eyes […]

Song of the Day 4/12: Manic Street Preachers, “If You Tolerate This Your Children Will Be Next”

Filed in Arts and Entertainment by on April 12, 2023 0 Comments

Guest post by Nathan Arizona In times like these, you’d think there’d be more protest songs with lyrics about shooting fascists. You’d expect more songs with titles like “If You Tolerate This Your Children Will Be Next,” though probably not as long. What we need is a band like the Manic Street Preachers, who stood […]

Carney’s Communications Director got wigged out by a super obvious question.   Delaware Governor Has ‘No Updates’ on Adult-Use Cannabis Bills, Which May Become Law Without His Signature Adult-use cannabis legislation received three-fifths majority support in the Delaware General Assembly March 28, but Democratic Gov. John Carney’s office has been tight-lipped on the issue since. Carney, […]

Jeebus Christ on a Krimpet, Senate Democrats Suck!

Filed in National by on April 11, 2023 8 Comments

Between Chris Coons rushing through Trump’s judicial picks, and Dianne Feinstein holding up Biden’s I guess we get the federal judiciary we deserve.   At what is clearly a critical time for confirming good federal judges, Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s (D-Calif.) increasingly prolonged absence from the Senate is apparently holding up the process for a number of President Joe Biden’s […]

Trump’s favorability rating collapses per ABC News/IPSOS polling

Filed in National by on April 11, 2023 2 Comments

There is no way to deny it.  Trump being brought to justice is a boon for Joe Biden.  Trump’s legal woes have increased his popularity among GOP primary voters, but devastated his favorability among voters in general.

Leaker of damaging U.S. intelligence files was reportedly administrator of a Discord chat room

Filed in National by on April 11, 2023 0 Comments

I’m not expert, but it seems like this person (these people?) were not terribly sophisticated.   …Users of the social media site Discord say an administrator of a closed group chat room, or server, called “Thug Shaker Central” posted hundreds of classified documents during arguments over Russia’s Ukraine invasion.  “…clues left online may help investigators […]
