The odd history of a bad law

If you’ve haven’t been following The Delaware Call’s  LEOBOR reform series, you should be. Do you know why the police in Delaware have a codified bill of rights keeping the misconduct of its officers secret? A Republican Governor vetoed a LEOBOR bill because the Attorney General opposed the measure, but it was eventually […]

Nobody gives a fuck about the deficit

Filed in National by on February 2, 2023 2 Comments

Except for weirdo GOP members of congress, the debt isn’t an important issue. …And when the Times/Sienna poll asked midterm voters to name the most important problem facing America, only one of the survey’s 1,641 respondents mentioned the debt, the deficit, or federal spending. One fucking person out of 1,641.   As Eschaton’s Duncan Black […]

Song of the Day 2/2: The Spinners, “It’s a Shame”

Filed in Arts and Entertainment by on February 2, 2023 0 Comments

The Rock Hall of Fame released its nominees for the class of 2023 yesterday. As usual, the contenders fall into a few predictable categories: * Superstars whose fame has nothing to do with rock (rap icon Missy Elliott, country institution Willie Nelson) * Actual rockers who didn’t sell enough records to make them shoo-ins (Iron […]

World War III Has Begun.  I think.  Weapons being moved around like pieces on a chessboard.  Want me to give you more? I will anyway.  Not to mention, the war in Ukraine has become a proxy for nations on both sides of the conflict.  We’ve even seen some wavering in Germany, perhaps here’s why. College […]

Two Things I Love About DeSantis’ Response to Trump

Filed in National by on February 1, 2023 1 Comment

If you are not as obsessed with Trump v. DeSantis as I am – here is a quick recap:

The Loser Ex-President made campaign stops where he told reporters that DeSantis would be “disloyal” if he ran for the Republican nomination and he knocked DeSantis’ record on Covid-19.

Desantis basically fired back with – Well I won my re-election, and you didn’t, so the people have spoken. And also, suck it.

Here’s what I love.  It ignores the BIG LIE and might be the first time I’ve heard a MAGAt say “Trump lost. Get over it.”  That’s good for America if civilian Republicans are now allowed to follow suit and acknowledge the simple truth – Trump is a loser who lost.

The second thing I love is how the smug little fucker (DeSantis) smugly just shrugged off trump as a loser and that’s pressing Trump’s biggest button.  Trump hates being called a loser and to be called one by the a smug little twerp like DeSantis NO DOUBT landed in Mara Lago like a kick to the balls.

It all adds up to Trump and DeSantis going full on berserker during this campaign, and that is great news for America.

The Republicans are going to nominate Trump or DeSantis. Both would end American Democracy, but I honestly can’t say which would be worse. DeSantis Makes 2024 Ambitions Clear As He Pours Gasoline On His ‘Woke’ Education Fire As he “actively” prepares for a presidential run, Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) announced Tuesday that he plans to […]

Filed in Arts and Entertainment by on January 31, 2023 0 Comments

Guest post Dwight Twilley was one of those shoulda-been coulda-been rockers. But he’ll never really be forgotten by any fan of twangy power-pop. Twilley’s “I’m on Fire” can be found on pretty much any list of best songs in the power-pop genre. The 1975 release was part of a wave of songs that balanced the […]

The Forthcoming Liberal/Conservative Joint Statement on Decency and Being a Decent American

Filed in National by on January 30, 2023 22 Comments

I have this idea that I’d like to sit down with an actual bone-fide conservative and uncover areas of general agreement.  I guess I still want to believe that there are conservatives that put loyalty to the country above loyalty to their fucked up party. I know I’m unicorn hunting but if anyone knows anyone, […]

Song of the Day 1/30: Tom Verlaine, “Breakin’ in My Heart”

Filed in Arts and Entertainment by on January 30, 2023 1 Comment

Back in the ’60s, teenagers Tom Miller and Richard Meyers ran away from Sanford School in Hockessin (it was a boarding school back then) and went to New York, where they became Tom Verlaine and Richard Hell. Television, the band they started in the ’70s with another Delaware kid, Billy Ficca, became one of the […]
