What is Delaware’s Trumpiest District?

Filed in National by on February 1, 2021 3 Comments

If you guessed that the trumpiest district in Delaware is the 40th, you are correct.

The 40th, occupies the lowest/western most part of Suxco. In terms of what separates humanity from the beasts of the field, it is truly a blighted wasteland. When Australians call something “the dag end” they are taking a term from sheep farming that describes the area where shit collects around a sheep’s ass making it a disgusting matted mess when it comes time to sheer the sheep. The 40th is the dag end of Delaware.

68% of voters in the 40th turned out for Trump this year.

Song of the Day 2/1: Laura Nyro, “Stoney End”

Filed in Arts and Entertainment by on February 1, 2021 1 Comment

For reasons that are obvious to me, if nobody else. Even more than Randy Newman, Laura Nyro was a singer’s songwriter. Despite her soaring mezzo-soprano voice and compositions that somehow blended Tin Pan Alley with gospel, blue-eyed soul and rock, she never recorded a hit or a gold record. Yet her first three LPs served […]

Delaware’s Corporate Blockade: How secrecy prevails at the state Division of Corporations

Filed in National by on February 1, 2021 4 Comments

What do we really know about the Delaware Division of Corporations, other than it is a one billion dollar revenue machine that manages the incorporation process in a state that is commonly referred to as the most secretive tax haven in the world? As it turns out, not very much.

DL Style Guide Updates

Filed in National by on February 1, 2021 3 Comments

First Delco replaced “Delaware County, PA”.    It was cool.  It gave this quirky place its own branding.  Now we are seeing Montco in place of the tiresome writing out of  Montgomery County.  Like any copy…not as good as the original.

Seeing the writing on the wall,  we are getting ahead of the trend and jumping directly to: Newcco, Kenco, and Suxco.

Sucks to be you, Suxco.

Today is the first day of Black History Month, and I have to admit that the amount of Black History & Civil Rights history I am familiar with is pitiful.   For instance, I just learned about the Dockum Drug Store sit in about an hour ago.

Dockum Drug Store Sit-In

When the Dockum Drug Store sit-in first happened in July 1958, few heard about it or recognized its importance. The sit-in was a student-led effort to end segregation. The two local daily newspapers published little about it, avoiding the negative association with the protest. The local chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People gave moral support, but did not participate in the student effort. Despite the silence surrounding the event, the students claimed their place in Kansas and national history.

Quote of the Day: The contract between a Trumpist politician and their voters runs a little something like, “I will enrich myself while exacerbating every problem that lands on my desk, but in exchange for the measurable decline in your quality of life, I will lie to your face about who’s to blame, allowing you […]

Song of the Day 1/30: Lana Del Rey, “Fuck It I Love You”

Filed in Arts and Entertainment by on January 30, 2021 3 Comments

Guest post by Nathan Arizona I believe there are some hipsters out there who still haven’t gotten on the Lana Del Rey bandwagon. Sure, the wagon leads to some darkish film-noir kind of places, but that’s a good reason to hop on. The reluctant might still be thinking about her disastrous debut on “Saturday Night […]

GOP Doubling Down on Threats of Domestic Terrorism – Against Fellow Members of Congress

Filed in National by on January 30, 2021 1 Comment

Boiled down to a sticky toxic goo, today’s GOP is addicted to threatening violence.

Texas extremist Chip Roy calls for “alternative methods” to deal with Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. Warning in a letter to Speaker Pelosi that if she doesn’t “apologize immediately, we will be forced to find alternative means to condemn this regrettable statement.”

Of course, Roy is not going to say exactly what that means, but I think we all know this is a physical threat against her.

I am not sure at what point there is going to be an assassination attempt against AOC, but I’d say that I think it is more likely than not in the next two years.

These are horrible times. And the Republican leadership is completely fine with all of it.

Biden White House will Not ‘elevate conspiracy theories’

Filed in National by on January 30, 2021 0 Comments

I like this approach. Not talking about Trump these few weeks has been like a year in the country.

https://thehill.com/homenews/administration/536473-psaki-wont-comment-on-taylor-greene-saying-it-would-elevate

White House press secretary Jen Psaki said Friday that she would not comment on Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) because she doesn’t want to “elevate conspiracy theories” in the White House briefing room.

“We don’t want to elevate conspiracy theories further in the briefing room, so I’m going to leave it at that,” Psaki said.

Psaki also told reporters that she would leave the decision to Congress as to whether to keep Greene on committees as she has come under fire for her promotion of unfounded conspiracy theories.

Song of the Day 1/29: The Rolling Stones, “Jigsaw Puzzle”

Guest post by Nathan Arizona Have you heard the news? This is National Puzzle Day. Alby, who usually fills this spot, would never embarrass himself by using National Puzzle Day as an excuse for a Song of the Day. On the other hand, he might if he knew he could get a two-fer out of […]

Reasons To Not Read The News-Journal: You may be aware that they are doing a clickbait series on ‘The Most Influential Delawareans’. I will not provide a link. Well, this week, they did one on the most influential political leaders, and many of the choices were bad. Uninspired. Just plain wrong.  Here’s what got my […]
