Song of the Day 12/26: The Pretenders, “2000 Miles”

Filed in Arts and Entertainment by on December 26, 2020 5 Comments

No, I am not extending the Christmas music season with this tune because, contrary to popular belief and usage, it isn’t a Christmas song, or wasn’t intended as one. Pretenders leader Chrissie Hynde wrote it in 1983 during the recording of the band’s third LP, “Learning to Crawl,” their first after the deaths of bassist […]

A Very Strange Bombing In Nashville.  Warnings from the SUV alerted people, looks like infrastructure (AT&T?) may have been the target. Guaranteed: A Lapse In Unemployment Benefits.  Aid withers while Trump dithers: Treasury Department officials, expecting that the president would sign the bill this week, had been planning to work through the Christmas holiday period […]

Song of the Day 12/25: Philadelphia Orchestra, “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen”

Filed in Arts and Entertainment by on December 25, 2020 2 Comments

“The Glorious Sound of Christmas,” recorded in 1962 by the Philadelphia Orchestra under Eugene Normandy, remains the best-selling classical holiday album ever — it sold 1 million copies before Christmas 1963, and has continued to sell well in every recording medium since invented. Why? I think it’s because it’s the rare classical album that doesn’t […]

A large explosion in downtown Nashville this morning was apparently was deliberately set, according to authorities. No major injuries reported. Song of the Day 12/24: Darlene Love, “Christmastime for the Jews”

Filed in Arts and Entertainment by on December 24, 2020 1 Comment

Speaking of Jewish songwriters composing so many great Christmas songs, there’s one Christmas song that’s not only written by a Jew, Robert Smigel, the comic genius behind SNL’s “TV Funhouse” and Triumph the Insult Comic Dog — it was written specifically for the Jews. “You grow up Jewish and you can’t help it,” Smigel said. […]

Trending – Trump to Quit and Receive Pardon from President Pence

People who have – “Trump will not last a full term” will win their office pool.

Trump’s recent tsunami of pardons of hardcore scumbags, traitors and losers makes it more likely that Trump will step down in order to receive a pardon from Pence.

Maybe he will try to pardon himself? I’m sure he’d prefer that route, but if a pardon from Pence is the one that Trump thinks will stick – he’ll take a pardon from Pence.

Predictions: Wednesday, January 20 Inauguration of Joe Biden 2021 – Tuessday, January 19 President Pence takes oath of office on 3:45pmm Issues Pardon of Trump by 4:00pm

Friedman’s NYT Editorial is Pure Bullshit and he Knows it

Friedman spends a entire column suggesting that Trump will “Force Principled Conservatives to Start Their Own Party” but acknowledges that there are no principled conservatives. As the Trump presidency heads into the sunset, kicking and screaming, one of the most important questions that will shape American politics at the local, state and national levels is […]

Song of the Day 12/23: Paul Simon, “Getting Ready for Christmas Day”

Filed in Arts and Entertainment by on December 23, 2020 0 Comments

Everyone knows why there have never been any good Hanukkah songs — the Jewish songwriters were too busy writing Christmas music. From Mendelssohn to Johnny Marks, Jewish composers and lyricists have produced an outsized portion of holiday perennials, so it’s kind of surprising that Paul Simon, who used Christian imagery frequently throughout his long career, […]
