Song of the Day 1/4: Gerry and the Pacemakers, “Don’t Let the Sun Catch You Crying”

Filed in Arts and Entertainment by on January 4, 2021 0 Comments

Gerry Marsden, lead singer and main songwriter for Merseybeat pioneers Gerry and the Pacemakers, died yesterday of a heart infection at age 78. Before Beatlemania became a worldwide phenomenon, Marsden and his mates — originally billed as the Mars Bars until the candy company objected — were the main rivals to the Fab Four. They […]

“Breaking: Mike Ramone ‘fully supports’ Trump’s coup attempt”

That headline would be troubling wouldn’t it? The fact is that we don’t know where Mike Ramone stands in Trump’s ongoing coup attempt because as Alby points out – NOBODY in this state’s media has the guts to pick up the fucking phone.

All Living Defense Secretaries Argue Against Involving Military In Election.  This is neither an academic exercise, nor is it taking a place in a vacuum.  They have at least some reason to believe that Trump is considering a military coup to keep himself in power. After yesterday, do you have any doubt that their concern […]

Trump’s Batshit Crazy Phone Call To The Georgia Secretary Of State

Filed in Featured, National by on January 3, 2021 18 Comments

Wow, I mean, wow! Even by Trump standards, this is insane: https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/trump-raffensperger-call-georgia-vote/2021/01/03/d45acb92-4dc4-11eb-bda4-615aaefd0555_story.html ‘I just want to find 11,780 votes.’ BTW, this call took place–yesterday.

Wednesday Is Gonna Be A Shitshow.  Rethug senators vs. the voters.  Pence egging them on.  Slackjawed RWNJ’s descend on DC.  All to protest Trump’s loss by over 7 million votes.  Anti-democracy on display for the world to see. Will January 6 Mark The End Of The Rethuglican Party?  Steve Schmidt thinks so. Today’s Speakership Vote […]

Song of the Day 1/2: Brittany Howard, “You’ll Never Walk Alone”

Filed in Arts and Entertainment by on January 2, 2021 1 Comment

So I’m minding my own business the other night, reading online while my wife watched TV, when the speakers swelled with someone singing what sounded like a gospel song. I looked up and there was Brittany Howard of the Alabama Shakes belting out this tear-jerker from Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “Carousel,” better known to younger generations […]

You Simply MUST Watch ‘Trial 4’.

Filed in Arts and Entertainment, Featured by on January 2, 2021 3 Comments

It’s on Netflix.  An incredible episodic documentary about a 1993 killing of a Boston policeman, and how the ‘justice’ system fixated on a Black suspect who spent 22 years in prison.  Each episode is around 55 minutes long, and it’s compelling TV. Everybody who wished to speak had the chance to speak.  You will get […]

Trump Calls Georgia Senate Races ‘Illegal And Invalid’.  Maybe he’s been looking at the campaign polling. The Rethuglican circular firing squad, it’s a beautiful thing. Happy New Year, Mike Pence.  RWNJ’s want him in prison. He’s gonna have to declare Biden the President-Elect, and his plan to skip town right after said declaration has been […]

Has Biden Botched Trump’s Tantrum?

Filed in National by on January 2, 2021 11 Comments

Biden has his reasons for appearing aloof and not much of a fighter in the face of Trump’s ongoing attacks on American democracy. Ceding the field to Republicans and waiting for them to stumble over their own idiocy is a favorite strategy of DC-based dems like Biden.

The track record of that strategy isn’t mixed. It sucks.

On January 6th Trump is encouraging his empty-headed followers to protest in support of Trump’s ongoing, anti-American attempts to overturn the election results. Biden should not let the day pass without landing some haymakers on Trump.

We have a name for people like Trump who come in second in elections – losers

If he thinks he can beat me, he should run for the Republicans nomination. If Republicans are stupid enough to nominate him – I’ll beat his ass agin.

Trump is a loser and a complete failure.

Trump keeps failing because his arguments are as flimsy and weak as the flimsy 2 miles of border wall he built.

The war Trump is trying to start is rhetorical (for now). It is well past time for Biden to join the battle.

Song of the Day 1/1: Ferko String Band, “Oh, Dem Golden Slippers”

Filed in Arts and Entertainment by on January 1, 2021 1 Comment

With luck, the cancellation of the Mummers Parade this year should forestall yet another blackface incident, but let’s face it — mummery’s roots are intertwined with minstrelsy’s, and not everybody is OK with that. Ferko String Band found that out in 2013 when the went with the theme “Bringin’ Back the Minstrel Days.” What they […]

Let’s be honest. The New Year really doesn’t begin until January 20.  Until then, we just have to sweat out whatever remaining blue ruin Trump can inflict. Why Nursing Homes Failed During Pandemic.  They sought, and then took advantage of, lax enforcement.  BTW, here’s another major scam routinely used  by the chains.  Memo to current […]

Top Songs of the Day for 2020

Filed in Arts and Entertainment by on December 31, 2020 0 Comments

I’m not a big fan of year-end lists, but everybody else seems to like them. Yossarian was right: If everybody else feels that way, then I’d certainly be a damned fool to feel any other way, wouldn’t I? These are the 2020 Songs of the Day that got the most hits: John Prine, “That’s How […]

Song of the Day 12/31: Dougie MacLean, “Old Lang Syne”

Filed in Arts and Entertainment by on December 31, 2020 1 Comment

I imagine lots of people will ignore the risks to hold New Year’s Eve parties, though I doubt they’ll be as big or raucous as usual. But no matter how people celebrate the turning of the calendar, it’s quite likely they’ll mark the moment by singing, or at least listening to, the song most of […]
