2012 Was The Year Of The Woman
Women made up 53% of the electorate this year and Republicans failed spectacularly, again, at basic math. My guess is that they’ll keep on failing, choosing to focus on Hispanics while ignoring that Hispanic women are part of that whopping 53%. So are African American women and Asian women – which means that women are the biggest voter demographic Republicans need to win an election.
Republicans are frighteningly out of touch with women who handed the election to President Obama. They refused to accept, and even mocked – I’m looking at you, Joe Scarborough – that women’s reproductive rights were a serious economic concern. They dismissed rape in the way one dismisses a hangnail. And they lost. Big time.
Republicans Have A BIG Problem
Right now Republicans are blaming Chris Christie, Hurricane Sandy, Mitt Romney, unreasonable gay people, slutty women, “biased” Hispanics, effeminate, urban, highly educated white guys, Evangelicals who didn’t show up, people who voted 3rd party and, of course, African Americans who should vote Republican, because, you know… Lincoln!
But the “Because I Said So!” party has a big problem, and I don’t see how they solve it. Yes, there have been mumblings about how the GOP has to tap into the groups I’ve listed about, but the question is how?

Mark your calendars! The local General Election debate season is upon us and this notice is of a series of three debates being sponsored/presented by WHYY and WDEL for the Governor’s race, the House Representative race and the Senate race. The (edited) press release with the details follows:
Wednesday Open Thread [2.22.12]
Rick Santorum is now the stronger general election candidate against President Obama. I assume the reason for that is he inspires social theocratic fascists and is largely unknown to the rest of the general nonpartisan population, while Romney is now pretty much hated by everyone everywhere.
Bill Shahan Running for NCCo Executive
On Saturday, Bill Shahan announced he was running for NCCo Executive, creating a primary for the incumbent, Paul Clark. According to his website, Shahan currently works for the County Land Use Department.
Huckabee Out For 2012

We R Who We R
Census data is out and that means reapportionment. But does it help or hinder the Republicans in 2012
City of Wilmington Mayoral Race Cattle Call — Spring 2010 Edition
Adam Taylor of the News Journal does the work of rounding up the declared and the rumored, so I can do this without appearing to betray any confidences. This list fairly humorous, especially if looking a this field in its entirety. But many kudos to Adam for doing this and for having this story picked up everywhere — I first heard it this AM on WHYY.
