Hillary Clinton’s Tampa Rally
Since it is widely expected that the VP announcement will be today, perhaps this is the event where it will happen. I have no idea, of course, but this rally is being live-streamed (starts at 4:30 EDT) so if you want to see it as it happens, here you go:
Trump Can’t Help Himself
Trump goes after Cruz because… well… we knew he would. Via TPM (go read the whole thing!): “Somebody got booed the hell out of a place by thousands and thousands of people,” Trump said. “There wasn’t one person in the room — not one. And then they said there may not be unity. Unity? There […]
Warren And Clinton Meet Today
Via The Hill: Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) will meet privately with presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton on Friday, the Washington Post reported. The meeting comes one day after Warren formally endorsed Clinton, and amid rampant speculation that Warren is being considered as a possible running mate for Clinton. The two women have spoken several […]
Trump Rally Turns Violent – We Are Becoming Trump
Congratulations! We’ve finally succeeded in making the “Both sides do it” claim a reality. Via TPM (Be sure to watch the videos): At the end of a Donald Trump rally in San Jose, California, on Thursday night, protesters began throwing eggs and punches at Trump supporters leaving the event, according to several news reports. […] […]
Did GOP Moderates Just Become Relevant?
Stephen Greenberg, a Democratic pollster and author of American Ascendant, writes, “Moderate Republicans will have the last word in this dramatic presidential election year.” Greenberg believes that moderates make up 31% of Republican party.
The “Pull” Of Trump
Before I get into this post let me say that I know anything can happen in a general election. That rule applies to every candidate. Everybody got that? Good. Moving on… I have a terrible fear of heights. It’s not a fear of being so far off the ground; it’s a fear of jumping. Let […]
The Creation of the Clinton vs the Progressives Narrative
It is fascinating to watch and of course Mark Halperin would be at the tip of the spear of this bullshit. According to him and his interlocutor here, Hillary Clinton is “terrified of the left”. Setting up this narrative of Clinton vs “The Left” is all about demonizing “The Left” and its ideas in a way that Halperin would never do for the Tea Party — who are demonstrably dangerous. Which might be why he feels that he can do this — there’s no downside to him for taking sides against “The Left”. He won’t be the only one, of course, but this is the first I’ve seen of this narrative in the wild this cycle.
QOD — Challenging Hillary for the Democratic Nomination
Who could do it? Andrew Sabl at Samefacts asks this question, and sets up what any challenger to Hillary Clinton (presuming again that she is running) would need to look like:
QOTD — Howard Dean Running for President in 2016
Netroots Nation is underway and Howard Dean made some news early on — he’d consider running for President again. Particularly if he thinks the field needs to be pushed towards more popular positions:
I’m Calling It For Santorum
Know why? Because we’ve seen this scene before. My guess is that Santorum will be the 2016 Republican nominee. He was first runner-up in 2012, so… it’s his turn. Rand Paul will take over his father’s role and act as spoiler. His Libertarian supporters will be rabid, as usual, and the Evangelical community won’t trust him. Meanwhile, the “business and money” side of the GOP will once again run a Jon Huntsman and lose quickly.
Which means… the nomination is Santorum’s. And I think it will be an easy win, mainly due to the make-up of the Republican primary voter. These voters are incapable of seeing past a primary to the general, and when you consider how many moderate Republicans have left the party then you understand who will pick the nominee.
The Republican’s base motto of “He’s not Conservative Enough” will finally be tested.
Wow Are They Done Already?
That was fast. And I’m not sure anyone got in a leisurely cigarette afterwards. Politico (yes, yes, I KNOW) is reporting on the current positioning of the GOP field for 2016. You read that right, 2016.
Santorum’s Next Step
Nate Silver guesses at what Rick Santorum’s next step will be. I’m guessing that he will NOT be running for any statewide office in Pennsylvania. Instead, he will be gearing up for 2016 which will entail traveling around the country fundraising for various conservative politicos and earning the all important favors that will be called […]
