Election 2014: Delaware’s Most Vulnerable Incumbents

I'm El Somnambulo, and I'm a listaholic. Admit it: So are you. Bearing in mind that incumbents need viable challengers in order to be vulnerable, here is a list of those with at least reason to be worried: State Auditor Tom Wagner: A do-nothing R in an increasingly D state. Here's the problem. If a do-nothing R is replaced by a do-nothing D, does it really make any difference? No doubt it does to Tom Wagner. But not to Patrick Harker or Lonnie George. Which is my point. And the problem. State Treasurer Chip Flowers: While the R's talk hopefully, and, IMHO, delusionally, about defeating him, I suspect that any real challenge would come from the Democrats. We'll likely know in 6 months or so whether there will be a party-backed challenger. We might as well get used to Flowers being a polarizing figure by choice. Which would be fine if it was principle, not ego, driving that train. State Senator Greg Lavelle (4th SD): Got 50.8% against Michael Katz. Probably less vulnerable this time, but he's got two more years of anti-gay and pro-gun votes on his record. Will a credible challenger emerge? I know that people expect me to have Ernesto Lopez on this list, but I don't see him as particularly vulnerable. Feel free to make a case. More inside....

So Who DIDN’T Think This Was Coming?

On Sunday, the NJ wrote a long piece detailing the some of the multiple fights going on between the Governor's Office and the Office of the Treasurer. The article is an interesting inventory of some of the BS swirling around the Treasurer's office, but when I finished reading it, I wondered who -- exactly -- was surprised that Chip Flowers and the Governor were butting heads over turf?

Chip Flowers Fumbles the Implementation of his “Economic” Program

Over the weekend, you may have noticed that a discussion started in the Friday Open Thread comments about how State Treasurer Chip Flowers' first attempt to expand the duties of his office has run into something of a brick wall. If you look at the comments there, you'll note that the Flowers' Fan Club is out in force again, and they are hanging their defense of Chip Flowers on arguments that rely alot on conspiracy theories and not much on the facts on the ground.

Volunteer Opportunity This Sunday

If you have been just dying to get out there to meet the Democratic candidates and do something to help get them elected, I have an opportunity for you. Come see Chris Coons, John Carney, Beau Biden, Chip Flowers, Richard Korn and others. Then help us get them elected.

Shadow Campaign for Treasurer

There has been a rotten thread running through the Treasurer’s race this year. The thread is that one campaign is trying to destroy their opponent on the way to the Democratic nomination. This is unbecoming of the two fine candidates that are competing to battle Colin Bonini in the fall. Sadly, the force behind this shadow campaign of destruction is so close to one of the candidates that the solution isn’t as simple as firing a staffer.
