UPDATE: RESPONSE FROM FIRE, Wingnuts unite!

The Foundation for Individual Rights in Education, or FIRE, said the university’s residence life education program amounts to an “Orwellian” attempt at thought control that violates students’ rights to freedom of conscience and freedom from compelled speech

Orwellian attempt at thought control? Hello? You know the planet is fucked up when conservatives are attempting to incorporate Orwell into an arguement.

Editors note: link now fixed.

UPDATE:

Hello,

I’m FIRE’s Legal Director, and I’m responding to your e-mail about the University of Delaware ’s residence life program.  Thanks for your input. The “highly specific university-approved views” to which we refer are those that the university specifies that “all students will recognize” after going through the residence life education program. They include:

Now, these may be views that you agree with and find non-controversial. But there are people, for example, who do not believe that systemic oppression exists in American society, and it is not the place of a taxpayer-supported institution of higher education to try—through mandatory programming—to change their beliefs. That doesn’t mean that the university can’t expose its students to the values it finds important—it absolutely can. But what it can’t do is try, through high-pressure tactics and mandatory sessions, to make students agree. So, to take your example, the school can certainly encourage responsibility to the planet, but it cannot require students to participate in environmentalist activities and to voice their agreement with environmentalism—which Is what the university has done with this program. For example, in the Russell complex, the curriculum states that at a floor meeting in March, “students will take action by advocating for a sustainable world.” Requiring students to advocate for a cause with which they may not agree goes beyond mere exposure to the university’s viewpoint and crosses the line into compelling students to take a view that is not their own—which is something the First Amendment does not allow.

I hope this has helped provide you with some greater insight into FIRE’s opposition to the program. Please feel free to e-mail me back if you’d like to continue this dialogue.

Thanks,

Samantha Harris

Reason 2,023 To only envy my good looks

So at the drinking liberally Dorian Gray made a pretty accurate statement that didn’t need much parsing. He said that he feels I do this because it is cathartic. It’s funny but I never thought that word specifically, but I guess he is right (for a change) but I also do this for another reason.

I share these emails with you because I think there are a lot of people out there that don’t believe it when fathers say that their ex-wives are vindictive, mean, shit-bags that would love nothing more than their children to feel the same way about thier father that they feel about their ex husbands. It is shameful, disgusting and immature beyond belief. The pain and confusion kids experience is regrettable. But, it goes on I’m sure to a worse degree than this does.

It is a sad state of affairs that it occurs at all, but I truly hope that the next time you listen to a divorced man say he believes that his ex wife would through his kid in front of a bus to get back at him you will believe him. you just remember Hotviti’s ex-wife and believe him

UPDATE:  I almost forgot to mention perhaps the biggest compliment ever applied to this blog.  From Robert Vanella:

“I have to tell you guys, the only places websites I visit are www.andrewsullivan.theatlantic.com www.nytimes.com and The Richard Dawkins Foundation – www.richarddawkins.net and you guys”

Pretty good fucking company I must say.  And I know a hell of a lot of politicians in delaware read this website too.  Dave Burris does too, but he only thinks he’s important.  Me, I know I am.

So read on about the wild night:

Listen I’m not gonna lie and say that you people that didn’t make it out have no idea what you were missing.  It was incredible.  I came out.  No, no, not out silly, out.  I showed up.  It has been about 4 months but I did it and I have to tell you it was a stimulating evening to say the least.  To my right people were discussing marxism.  Across from me someone from Democratic Underground joined the small frey.  To my left people were discussing Mrs. Blevins, Matt Denn and some other guy that supposedly is trying to distance himself from the governor as he hopes to claim the mightiest seat in all the land (over-built land I might add).  In my opinion distancing himself much the same way that the GOP field is distancing themselves from Bush.

Minner doesn’t mind though, she understands that to keep the party in power she has to go party it up in Chile’ and keep her profile low.  At least that is what her people are saying…..(Every time I go to a bar though I thank the governor and so should you. )

Lets just say that in this town when you compliment someones assistant or campaign aides or more generally speaking those people that work their asses off on campaigns the rewards to the complimenter are great.  You can’t go wrong complementing beautiful young women.  It’s part of my charm really.  As hot as I am I have to make women feel that they too are just as hot as me.  It keeps the vapors from happening I have found.  Alcohol is a plus too.

Oh and a word to the wise when you show up at these things.  The governor sends spies.  Aka constituent relation people or some bogus tax dollar wasting title they come up with for a family friend.  You know who you are and I have your number.  (wink)

Delaware’s hottest blogger was in full effect.  Dorian Gray and Von Cracker showed up in style but let’s be honest a candle can’t put out the fire I bring to a joint.  If you know what I mean.  None the less it was nice to see the fella’s, my pepes come out and wait for Chris or Art to show up.  After all they use real names so what would preclude them from coming out?  In the end I really do try to tone it down when I roll at the bar scene, but what can you do?  It’s a blessing and a curse at the same time.  Sorry DG, accept it buddy.

What I’m Reading

Well, it is time I polluted my mind with socialist, Marxist, Lenninist thinking again.  I know, I know I may come to find that this type of leftist logic is…

Question

How would you feel if a company that held your private information turned it over to the government without notifying you?  And without a warrant?

Reason 2,268 To only envy my good looks

Listen I know what it is like to want to know about a star’s life. I understand you guys/gals don’t want to know, but want to know at the same time what is going on with people’s private lives. I’m here to tell you, they are normally train wrecks!

The baggage that comes along with being Delaware’s hottest blogger is heavy. The fighting with the ex-wife never ends! 8 years later and we might as well have been divorced last week. So the Mrs. Hotviti has stepped in to act as Secretary of State.

Well we are working with Mrs Putin and I can honestly say I think the Cold War is about to restart.

so without further adieu (sp?) Here I air my dirtly laundry with you all.

But before I do, a little more set up. We got my daughter’s passwords for their online school information. My ex-wife was kind enough to put a family friend (of hers) as an emergency contact instead of their step mother. For daughter #2 she put her boyfriend as a gaurdian and 2 of her family friends as emergency contacts vs my father or wife. And for daughter #3 the same thing.

Now….enjoy. Get the popcorn! (Names have been protected to protect the innocent)
