The 62 Project: #’s 27 & 35
Rebecca Walker has, on paper, the kind of background I look for in a legislator–demonstrated accomplishment in arenas other than politics. She’s both a nurse and an attorney, and has practiced in each field. Ernie Lopez first ran for office in New Castle County. I voted for him. Why? Because he was clearly the better candidate when he ran against the ghastly Paul Clark for County Council President in 2004.
The Polls are Closed: Primary Election Results Thread
The polls are now closed. The poll workers are tabulating results and phoning them in. Hopefully the candidates are having their signs gathered in hopes of reuse in two months.
The Department of Elections website is here.

SEO And The Local Races
SEO is Search Engine Optimization. It is a geeky dark science that strives to improve the ranking of web pages through a variety of techniques. It can also show you who is working on improving their online persona. I like to think of it as a way of controlling the first impression of someone looking for more information. Let’s look at how the candidates have done.
Three ICs and a Proxy
On Tuesday night I had the pleasure of seeing 3 of the 4 Democratic Insurance Commissioners and a representative of Paul Clark. The setting was a caucus with 4 or 5 RDs represented and conducting various business, including the first step in sending delegates to the Democratic National Convention.
Tom Gordon Contemplating Another Run
Former New Castle County Executive Tom Gordon is thinking about taking another run at his old office — an office he left in disgrace. Remember how resoundly he got beat last time he ran?
Delaware Liberal Tracking Poll Results: Paul Clark
Karen Weldin Stewart has company on the bench of most unpopular politicians in Delaware. Paul Clark has a 51% disapproval rating, and a 30% approval rating. The rest don’t know him or don’t care. Still, a negative -21 point favorability spread is not something to smile about, even if this is an inaccurate non-random internet poll.
The Delaware Liberal Tracking Poll
You may have noticed in the center column of the site, we have a poll question regarding the job performance of Governor Markell. Currently, the Governor has a 69% approval rating (27% approve, 42% strongly approve), and a 22% disapproval rating (17% disapprove, 5% strongly). And 9% of you either don’t care, don’t know or are “meh” when it comes to the Governor.
Now, an internet poll is in no way accurate (although, real polls of the Governor’s job performance have similar findings, with approval in the 60’s). We are not dealing with a random sample here. And the sample size is way too small (64 people at last count). Still, I thought it would be fun to have a new tracking poll feature each day that polls the politically motivated and passionate in Delaware. Each day of the week we will poll on a different office holder or candidate.
The Responsibilities of the Democratic Electorate
The need to purge our party of people that don’t take their responsibilities to the people of Delaware is an unending job and it takes a concentrated effort. We have to often choose our battles so that we can win a few rather than lose a bunch of them. In 2012, we will again be in a target-rich environment.
Meconi Gets Gig in New Castle County Gov’t
Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me; fool me three times, call it the Delaware Way.
In Which We Find Paul Clark Crossing His Fingers Behind His Back
Yesterday, commenter jpconnerjr linked to the NJ article about Paul Clark showily rolling out his “firewall” that is supposed to resolve the potential conflict of interest issues inherent in having the NCCo County executive married to the favorite land use attorneys of NCCo developers.
“Clark is whining about his lost money.”
If it wasn’t such a big news day, this would be a big story. It seems Paul Clark invoked the James Bond sounding “Item J Resolution” to get his legal bills paid by country taxpayers. Mike Mathews breaks it down: I’ve been told that Paul Clark’s request to have his lawyer fees repaid by the […]
Who Does Paul Clark Think He’s Kidding?
NCCo County Council President writes a Letter to the Editor today, objecting to the characterizations of the NCCo Council government as being against Open Government: Council’s vote was solely based upon concerns that the county lacks the equipment to secure audio postings. Because of those who manipulate the facts for self-interest or humor, and then […]
