Paul Ryan on Trump’s Muslim Ban

A curious statement by Speaker Paul Ryan, “This is not conservatism. What was proposed yesterday is not what this party stands for. And, more importantly, it’s not what this country stands for”…Maybe Ryan speaking out like this is exactly what is needed to start shutting down Trump’s insanity, lest he continue on and win the nomination.

Paul Ryan Tries To Herd Cats

Paul Ryan Tries To Herd Cats

It’s really, really obvious that Paul Ryan is being dragged, kicking and screaming, into running for the House Speaker. He really, really doesn’t want the job.

Ryan spoke to the House GOP behind closed doors Tuesday and said if all factions can share his vision and he can get the endorsement of the major caucuses, then he will serve as speaker.

The news was confirmed by his spokesman Brendan Buck, who said according to reports, “If he is not a unifying figure for the conference, then he will not run.”

So, he wants the vote before the vote. And he has conditions:

He said Republicans needed to move from being “an opposition party to an proposition party.” He also said he would seek updates to the House rules — a common demand by the conservative hardliners that roiled Speaker John Boehner’s tenure — “so everyone can be a more effective representative.”

Paul Ryan Has a Plan to Save the Government — You Have to Give Up Your Social Security

After being completely invisible over the past few weeks, Paul Ryan re-appears in today’s WSJ to: 1) whine that the President is not negotiating with the House, 2) lie about previous debt-ceiling negotiations, 3) offer a trade of the sequester cuts for entitlement reform, 4) demand an opening of natural areas for more fossil fuel exploration, and 5) reform taxes.

House GOP Priorities Include a Continuation of the War on Women

Filed in National by on January 10, 2013 16 Comments

Rescuing anon’s comment from the Open Thread, Paul Ryan has decided that his first signature act of this new Congress would be to cosponsor a bill that would give legal rights to a zygote. Bills like this were roundly defeated everyplace they came up in 2012, if they even survived legal challenges. So this is the signal, right? That the GOP intends to beat their own record for the Worst Congress Ever.

Paul Ryan Using the Poor as a Prop

Filed in National by on October 15, 2012 5 Comments

It never ceases to amaze me that these people just don’t get it. In an effort to humanize Ryan, the Romney campaign had Ryan and his family stop at a soup kitchen in Youngstown, Ohio last week. There was no advance notice to the venue ( Mahoning County St. Vincent De Paul Society), no asking of permission, no coordination of schedules — Ryan and his family and entourage just showed up

Grandma Catches Paul Ryan In A Lie

We all know that Paul Ryan is a fit dude, his addiction to P90x is legendary. What we didn’t know till last week that Ryan at one point as a pretty-good marathoner. On a radio interview last week Ryan said that his personal best time for the 26.1 mile race was “. . . under three, high twos. I had a two hour and fifty-something.” That’s really good. How good is that? He’d probably finish in the top 10 this year’s Delaware Marathon with a 6 minute 50 second mile pace.

But wait, Ryan is not that fast, not by a long shot. Ryan’s one marathon on record, Grandma’s Marathon 1990, has Ryan running a 4 hour and 1 minute marathon. Big difference.

Paul Ryan Won’t Help Romney With Women

Filed in National by on August 14, 2012 73 Comments

The narrative forming around Paul “Ayn Rand” Ryan, so far, has centered on his wonkiness, his “intellectualism” and his fiscal “swoon inducing” prowess.  (Can’t wait until Republicans start gushing over his government experience – which will be good for Ryan since working for the government is 99% of his resume).  But there’s more to Ryan […]

You Can’t Talk About Cutting Spending Without Talking About Cutting Spending

Last week President Obama called Rep. Paul Ryan’s (R-Wisconsin) budget “social darwinism” which caused Ryan’s head to figuratively explode and he responded with a Twitter tirade. But as Ezra Klein points out in his wonderful piece about Ryan’s budget that “his numbers stop at the water’s edge” of giving real examples or any specifics. Consequently, […]

Ryan’s Medicare Killer Is Dead

Have you been watching this unfold over the last day or so? The House GOP leadership has been throwing Ryan under the bus and walking back any idea of privatizing Medicare as part of a budget scheme. Why?
