Fetus Pictures Being Sent To Government Officials
Of all the slippery slope arguments this one actually has merit. RALEIGH, N.C. — A state law requiring that doctors who perform an abortion after the 16th week of pregnancy supply an ultrasound to state officials has sparked a new and bitter front in the war over abortion here, with stakes that are both personal […]
Joe Scarborough Thinks He’s Found A Way To Shut This Whole Hillary Thing Down
Here’s Joe Scarborough pretending to think out loud over whether “invoking Monica Lewinsky against Hillary Clinton could be an appropriate tactic.”
“If Hillary Clinton attacks the Republican Party’s handling of women, and treatment of women and disrespect for women, and suggests they’re misogynists et cetera, et cetera, et cetera, it does seem to be a fair question to ask right now, a few years out, does the media have a responsibility to say, ‘Well, let’s see what happened when you were in the White House, and how women were treated when you were in the governor’s mansion and the White House?’ Is that fair?” the ‘Morning Joe’ host asked Monday morning, as quoted by Mediaite. […] “Does this not compromise Hillary Clinton’s ability to bash Republicans as being terrible toward women, misogynist, et cetera?” he asked.
How exactly would Republicans use Bill Clinton’s infidelity against Hillary Clinton? How does that look? Would they say she was a-okay with infidelity because, if she wasn’t then she would have divorced him? Would they say she’s sexist and misogynist because she’s married to a man who had an affair? Most likely they would do what they love to do and tell Hillary to sit down and shut up… maybe they could even tell her to go make them a sandwich. But whatever route they choose they will end up putting forth this message: Ladies, you are merely an extension of your husbands. Your opinions will only be considered if they align with your husband’s opinion and behavior. If they don’t, well… then you may not speak on certain subjects.
House GOP Priorities Include a Continuation of the War on Women
Rescuing anon’s comment from the Open Thread, Paul Ryan has decided that his first signature act of this new Congress would be to cosponsor a bill that would give legal rights to a zygote. Bills like this were roundly defeated everyplace they came up in 2012, if they even survived legal challenges. So this is the signal, right? That the GOP intends to beat their own record for the Worst Congress Ever.
The Republican War on Women Redux
The Akins spectacle serves to remind women everywhere about the GOP War on Women — the one they claim isn’t happening — and further opens the curtain on the undercurrent of lies and misinformation designed to create the fear and loathing that only serves this far right wing’s destructive tendencies. Most of the GOP — including Rmoney — is backing away from Akins in the most public way possible. The NRSC is pulling it’s promised support as is Karl Rove’s secretive PAC. They’ve got Artur Davis out warning the GOP that if Akins stays in, President Obama will win Missouri. Akins is staying in the limelight with his I’m Not Quitting campaign and his I’m Sorry campaign. Most folks are spending today trying to guess whether or not Akins will leave the race, but take a look at the groups supporting this guy. The Family Research Council, Missouri (so-called) Right-to-Life and the Susan B. Anthony group, along with even more reminders that Akins and Paul Ryan were at the frontline to try to redefine rape.
Rep. Todd Akins Didn’t “Misspeak” About “Legitimate” Rape
Let’s take a look at what Todd Akins said: Rep. Todd Akin, the Republican nominee for Senate in Missouri who is running against Sen. Claire McCaskill, justified his opposition to abortion rights even in case of rape with a claim that victims of “legitimate rape” have unnamed biological defenses that prevent pregnancy. “First of all, […]
The Republican War on Women in Gory Detail
The definition of the Republican War on Women heated up yesterday with Reince Priebus’ remark that compared women to caterpillars, President Obama saying the Augusta should allow women members and recent polling that shows a huge gender gap between Obama and Romney. As much as the GOP and the Washington Post say that there is no war on women, there is as Rachel Maddow shows us. Below the video is a transcript of the segment if you want to read along instead.
The Reason Behind Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett’s “You just have to close your eyes” Comment
The reason: Telling a woman to close her eyes, lie back and think of England is obviously the technique employed in Gov. Corbett’s bedroom. Click through to see the video.
Republican War On Women – Crazy Arizona Goes Even Further
The bill doesn’t just aim to implement a Blunt Amendment-type law at the state level — it would also strike a protection from the books that forbids a religious employer from firing “an employee who independently chooses to obtain insurance coverage or prescriptions for contraceptives from another source.” That means that if women sought coverage outside of her employer plan, she could be fired, although that might conflict with other laws in Arizona that would protect women from such employer actions.
Women Are Not Single Issue Voters And Contraception Is Not A Single Issue
Lately I’ve heard politicians of all stripes state that women are not single issue voters. This statement appears when the subject of contraception emerges and the two parties use the line for different reasons. The point is… access to affordable contraception encompasses more than a single issue. Rush Limbaugh and the Republicans act like contraception is something that only pertains to a woman looking for a good time on a Friday night – as a way to cut loose without suffering the “consequences.”
For 99% of women who use, or have used, contraception, the decision to prevent pregnancy is based on economics. Can we afford to have a child at this time? Are we at a point in our lives where having a child would be a responsible financial decision? Do we even want to have children? (That last question has Republicans taking to their fainting couches.) If we were talking about buying a new car and whether we could afford it, or if spending our money on that was responsible when we were struggling to pay other bills, we would be applauded for demonstrating good fiscal sense. In fact, Republicans normally love to wag their fingers at people buying big screen televisions they can’t afford. Pointing out how people are irresponsible with their finances is one of the GOP’s favorite pass times.
So why don’t they admit that household economies are directly tied to family planning?
The War On Women Rages On
Remember that mandated ultrasound bill Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell ran away from? It’s back, in revised form, and signed into law.
There’s A Name For Forced Penetration Of A Women Without Her Consent
The Republican war on women – and it is a war – has moved on to the next, but certainly not last, step in Virginia.
