City of Wilmington Mayoral Race Cattle Call — Spring 2010 Edition
Adam Taylor of the News Journal does the work of rounding up the declared and the rumored, so I can do this without appearing to betray any confidences. This list fairly humorous, especially if looking a this field in its entirety. But many kudos to Adam for doing this and for having this story picked up everywhere — I first heard it this AM on WHYY.
City of Wilmington to Live Stream City Council Meetings
I was at City Council last Thursday where Bud Freel brought up an ordnance (pdf) that would allow the City to sign a contract with a firm that would take he video recorded by WITN of Council Meetings and live stream them over the internet.
Wilmington City Council Approves Protester Buffer Zone for Health Facilities
John Manifold noted this in the Open Thread yesterday, but it is worth its own post. And this is good news too — the ordinance that the Wilmington City Council approved would require protesters within 100 feet of health care facilities to stay at least 8 feet away from people coming and going into the […]
PSA Press Release: Lake is Exonerated
Nancy Willing sent me this press release sent out by Frank Murphy today:
The Board of the Peoples Settlement Association today announced that Keith Lake, its Executive Director of 16 years, has been cleared of all allegations of misconduct. After a special investigation lasting more than one year, the State Auditor of Accounts provided Peoples Settlement with a report finding no evidence of illegal conduct or missing state funds. Representatives of Peoples Settlement recently met with the Auditor’s Office, and confirmed that Mr. Lake was exonerated of any wrongdoing.
It is funny how the same people keep popping up at all of these McDowell influenced organizations.
UPDATED: Of Cops and Recovery Funds
Yesterday, VP Joe Biden traveled to Philly to announce the awardees of grants from the Recovery bill designed to bolster funding for law enforcement in states, counties and cities. These funds, as I understand it, are meant to be a backstop for governments facing cuts in law enforcement due to budget shortfalls. Delaware was awarded $5M in these grants yesterday. UPDATED with info from a Community Advisory from the mayor’s office.
Silly Stimulus Games — Wilmington Edition
The NJ reported the other day on the award of $11M of Recovery money to the state for public safety projects — of which both NCCo and the City of Wilmington got $1.5M each. In Wilmington, 17 police officers and 8 firefighters are planned to be laid off since their unions have not agreed to […]

The NJ reports that Councilman Kevin Kelley, Councilman Sam Prado, Father Mike Tyson of St. Paul Church and Reverend Christopher Bullock, pastor of Canaan Baptist Church have organized a march on Wilmington’s West Side to honor Dr. King and to “promote racial harmony and nonviolence in the city” today. I have alot of respect for […]
QOTD: Sundays in Wilmington
I live in downtown Wilmington, where almost everything is closed on Sundays. Things I know that are open: The Exchange Washington St. Ale House McDonald’s on 4th Dunkin’ Donuts (but only until like 2pm) Also, for the month of December only, the Happy Harry’s on Market will be open. We went there today and we […]
City of Wilmington Races and Issues
Andrew C in the Commenter’s Endorsement thread wanted to know why we were so limited in our endorsements and discussion of candidates — specifically that we did not cover Wilmington candidates. Both Pandora and I live in the City, but I don’t have a sense that there are many readers and commenters here interested in […]
