But first, a recap of all the musical goodness that has come before:

‘Bulo’s Fave Tunes Of 2019: #’s 50-31

‘Bulo’s Fave Tunes Of 2019: #’s 30-21

‘Bulo’s Fave Tunes Of 2019: #’s 20-11

Here we go, ready or not:

10. The Suitcase Junket is the most amazing one-man-band of the decade.  He writes great songs, performs them live while playing all the instruments at the same time, and he makes incredible videos. He put out a criminally-neglected album this year. I had to decide from among three songs on that album, and chose this one:

9.

8.

7.

6.

5. I think this is the best Tom Waits cover I’ve ever heard. Performed by Phoebe Bridgers, one of my fave new artists of the decade. Seein’ how Waits is on my musical Mt. Rushmore, this belongs right here:

4.

3. Might’ve been my #1 if it hadn’t started appearing in so many bleeping commercials:

And now, ladeez and gentlemen, after all these great tunes, it comes down to this.  My wife and I couldn’t choose between these two amazing songs. So different, so unforgettable. For the first time ever, we have a flat-footed tie for #1. The ultimate cop-out! I’m just gonna do ’em in alphabetical order by artist name. I now give to you…#1 and #1:

My two favorites here are Gary Clark, Jr. and the Dwight Trible (lots of good “spiritual” jazz these days). Up at the top, I’m not a huge fan of Lizzo and I like Brittany Howard better with “Alabama Shakes.” Most of the others are solid, IMO, especially Sharon Van Etten and Strand of Oaks — but shouldn’t they have spelled it “Stand” of Oaks?

A good list, as always. Thanks. I’m gonna post my own Top 10 albums of 2019, for no good reason.

    (alphabetically)

Philip Bailey, “Love Will Find a Way”
Lana Del Rey, “Norman Fucking Rockwell”
    Drugdealer, “Raw Honey”
James Xerxes Fussell, “Out of Sight”
    Hibou, “Halve”
House and Land, “Across the Field”
    Michael Kiwanuka, “Kiwanuka”
    Jessica Pratt, “Quiet Signs”
John Paul White, “The Hurting Kind”
    Yola, “Walk Through Fire”

I probably should have had a Lana Del Rey song on my list. I was considering one. Like you, I’m a big fan of Michael Kiwanuka. He will have a song on the best of the decade list. As will Lana Del Rey, Jessica Pratt, and quite likely one other on your list.

BTW, one reason I LOVE that Brittany Howard song is b/c it reminds me of another member of my musical Mt. Rushmore–Curtis Mayfield. It’s like a great Curtis Mayfield song which just happened not to have been written by him. That’s high praise in my book.

I’ll give the Brittany Howard another try. I dig Curtis Mayfield.
