Counter to Conservative Corner

Filed in National by on February 17, 2007

Over at FSP, Rich Collins of Lewes lays out why conservatives and liberals are different.  He is misled and simplistic.  The argument basically boils down to “Liberals are unrealistic and Conservatives really understand the world.”  Gimme a break.  If you are going to try to boil it down to a single difference (dangerous business, that is) I find it to be that liberals don’t give up on ideals just because the going gets tough.

He seems to believe very strongly in how the market will save us all.  I think there is a huge role for the market, but the market ain’t the whole bowl o’ wax here.  We see all too often that corporations will do whatever they can to maximize profits.  This includes stealing money from Grandmothers in California, raiding pensions and lying about research findings to enhance profitability.  The markets have to have a counter-balance and that is what government does for us.

Hey conservatives! Love what you’ve done with the place.

Wow. As if Rich’s post is SOOO much different from the swill constantly found here!

Those that live in glass houses … ?

Be fair, Hube. Mr. Geek is only house-sitting.

    That makes me SO-OO ANGRY!!!

I read that crap and could barely bring myself to comment. Al does a pretty good job tearing apart the paper machete and chicken wire arguments.

Though I rarely agree with him (or her), Think123 has given a well-wrought Repub response to Rich.

  6. liberalgeek says:

Mike, no need to defend me on that. I am putting myself out here and am more than happy to engage Hube.

I suppose, Hube, that this means that you accept Rich’s post as swill? We can certainly discuss whether or not the lefties among us at proffering our own swill, but that is not the question here.

The simplistic and decidedly sucktastic essay by Rich is one of the reasons that it is difficult for the left and right to discuss things.

  7. one can find those seeds of the polarity that has striken, sickened us there, no?

  8. Good job Geek! I thought it was Jason. You have captured his snarky style. Well done.

Agreed. Much like the swill on this very blog. So I reiterate what I wrote earlier. Pot meet Kettle. You’re no different whatsoever.

Ready to discuss whenever you are, Hube. I suspect we are all capable of swill dispensing. The swill around here is just better 🙂

    Hi Nancy,

Thanks. That is high praise indeed.
