Shouldn’t they be worth watching, too?

For the first time in a while, they’ve actually nominated a bunch of pretty good ones — not necessarily the most popular ones. I’d have a hard time picking between There Will Be Blood and No Country for Old Men as Best Picture. The PT Anderson one is such a quantum leap better than his other movies and Daniel Day Lewis channeling John Huston is a thing to see. Then again, No Country is the Coens, whose work I love, actually got the frequently declared unfilmable Cormac McCarthy (astonishing writer) on the screen preserving the spirit of the story.

But no liveblogging since I have no TV and I am not crazy about these award shows anyway.

Jon Stewart is mostly disappointing so far, so you aren’t missing much there. Much rather be watching The Daily Show! Btw, what did you make of Francis Ford Coppola’s Youth Without Youth? It hasn’t gotten much play, but it’s a more engaging film than many of those being given awards tonight. Here’s an interesting discussion of the film.
