Gross Incompetence II

Filed in National by on February 25, 2008

The News Journal can’t get the simple facts right. As Nemski correctly pointed out, in the online edition of the version of the story called: Someone ‘dropped the ball’ in Lofink case, Sean O’Sullivan turned Vince Lofink into a Democrat. Notice that the “D” appears in both the body of the copy and the caption – so it was not a simple typo.

I guess the News Journal Style Book it says that everyone who has a son that steals Millions of dollars from the state has to be a Democrat.

10:55 – last night Nemski noticed it.

6:30 am – Still not corrected online. These guys don’t give a fuck.

  2. jason330 says:

7:05 – still not fixed online.

  3. anon says:

Crap – first we get Atkins, now they are trying to give us Lofink.

Do we know Anthony’s party registration?

  5. Dana Garrett says:

On WGMD right now caller after caller has been calling in trashing Dave Burris for calling Atkins a piece of human garbage.

Looks like even Sussex County isn’t “where [Dave] needs them to be.”

    People are catching on.

  6. JA says:

Good to hear Sussex Dems on the airwaves looking after their own.

  7. Brian says:

fixed. But please ask Dr. Liberal for a full analysis….

8:17 – The NJ’s error is still not fixed.

Does anyone get the dead tree edition? Is the “D” in that version?

  9. Pandora says:

I get the dead tree edition. On the front page of Sunday’s paper — which I dug out of the recycling bin (just to show how dedicated I am!) — it lists him as a “D” in both the picture blurb and in the article.

Dead-tree subscribers, please let us know what page the correction is on – if there is a correction.

How did you know it was a conspiracy? Did you put a bug in our smoke-filled room?

    lol

    Pandora gets a gold star.

I’m not surprised by this. The whole artcle’s aim was to shift blame away from the criminal and on to the Finance Dept.

  14. Rebecca says:

I don’t see any correcting in this morning’s edition of the NJ. There is a tiny little box on page A3 that says:

To comment about the accuracy, fairness or adequacy of news coverage, call Assistant Managing Editor Jill Fredel at 324-2859 from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays. From southern Delaware and other states, call (800) 235-9100.

Shall we all call Ms. Fredel?

  15. jason330 says:

9:30 – Online edition still wrong.

  16. Al Mascitti says:

It’s mostly a function of the lack of copy editors. Once upon a time, copy editors did proofreading, wrote headlines and picture captions and that was about it. Now they also do all the work that used to be done by the typesetters, leaving less time for the other functions.

The bigger question, IMHO, is who in the office or the department failed to catch this after the initial tip. If we had legislators with any male gonads, somebody would be holding hearings on this, instead of wind power.
