Flip flopping or just plain lying?

the Maverick in action…

Flip:

“He is, as he describes himself, a liberal Democrat,” Mr. McCain said of Mr. Kerry, adding that he meant no offense by the term. “I am a conservative Republican. So when I was approached, when we had that conversation back in 2004, that’s why I never even considered such a thing.”

Flop:

Later, when Mr. McCain was asked by a reporter from The New York Times about the conversation and why he said in an interview with The Times in May 2004 that he had not even had a casual conversation with Mr. Kerry on the topic, Mr. McCain displayed some of the temper that he is known for but that he has largely kept under control in this campaign.

“Everybody knows I had a conversation,” he testily told the reporter in a news conference on his plane as it headed here from Atlanta. “Everybody knows that, that I had a conversation. There’s no living American in Washington, there’s no one, and you know it, too. You know it. You know it. So I don’t even know why you asked.”

When asked to address when the conversation with Mr. Kerry occurred, Mr. McCain once again replied sharply. “No, no,” he said, “because the issue is closed, as far as I’m concerned. Everybody knows it. Everybody knows it in America.”

McCain’s past statements damage him to the point of being unelectable. That’s why if you watch Fox news for ten minutes you’ll see ten minutes worth of cheerleading for Hillary Clinton.

Clinton getting the nomination is the only shot they have and even that is a very long shot.

That is one creepy photo, all right. Thanks, DV, for the nightmares.

  3. donviti says:

    thank Jason…

  4. cassandra m says:

The really interesting bit of this narrative is that McCain evidently did the approaching — Jonathan Singer interviewed John Kerry last year. He is getting testy over that because it could come back to haunt him….

  5. jason330 says:

McCain was like Zelig for a little while, picking up the attributes of whoever he happened to be standing next to.

Even early on in this campaign Joe Biden said he would consider McCain for a VP.

  6. Pandora says:

Could someone please explain to me why John McCain is so loved by Dems? I honestly don’t get it. It can’t be his voting record. Maybe it’s because Repubs hate him, you know… the enemy of my enemy is my friend.

Pandora, Only by dems who have been brianwashed by Faux news. Nightmares….the picture above is a nightmare all on its own.

Love the photo. I plan on stealing it.

If you were to give a name to the photo, what would it be?

John McBush, John W McCain, George McCain…?

  9. donviti says:

    George W. McCain

  10. cassandra m says:

It is not just Fox News — the propaganda arm of the RNC doesn’t even much like McCain — but the studied performance of McCain himself. He has been ever present in places where lots of folks can see him — the Daily Show, Leno, Letterman and lots of talking heads programs where he gets to be charming and gets to kick around BushCo in a very funny way while returning to DC to vote for all of the crap.

It is not unlike the extensive courting of the press McCain has been working on since before the 2000 election — it is well known that he has worked hard to get the press on his side. Even Chris Matthews notes that the press is McCain’s base. So as a result, everyone keeps repeating that McCain is a moderate when,of course, he is no such thing.

If I were to name that photo, I’d call it Four More Years.

  11. Brian says:

Cassandra, if that is the case, four more years, I will call it “Save The Titanic…”
