He continued:

The current demand for our forces in Iraq and Afghanistan exceeds the sustainable supply, and limits our ability to provide ready forces for other contingencies. . . . Soldiers, families, support systems and equipment are stretched and stressed. . . . Overall, our readiness is being consumed as fast as we build it. If unaddressed, this lack of balance poses a significant risk to the all-volunteer force and degrades

    I do hope that someone grills Petreaus pretty intensely about he he intends to keep up this pace with the increasingly limited resources at his disposal. At this rate, just continuing may be more dangerous than the withdrawal that Bush and McCain are so hell bent against.

    People with draft age kids really need to familiarize themselves with the latest Selective Service rules — chances for outs and deferments are really narrowed.

    Patraeus’ stop the troop redeployment line is what Cheney directed him to say when they met a few weeks ago. Have patience sounds so compassionate, no?
