How would you describe the DE GOP’s attempts to prop Bill Lee as a candidate?

Helicopter Pete to the rescue!

Leading the charge Tuesday was former Gov. Pete du Pont, who arrived by helicopter on Baywood’s driving range, along with former Republican state chairman Terry Strine and his wife, Sandy.

I wonder if he was wearing a fighter pilot costume? Hmmmm…. I wonder if Pete’s helicopter ride treated as an in-kind donation to the Lee campaign?

Because nothing says, “I don’t care about the price of fuel because I am so rich,” Like a helicopter arrival.

No, they aren’t out of touch with reality.

  2. pandora says:

Shoot! I waited and still managed to jump on your post! Sorry, Jason.

BTW, loved the helicopter arrival. Very Magnum PI!

  3. jason330 says:

    No worries bout the posting.

  4. liberalgeek says:

Yeah, and I’m about to post over both of you…

  5. jason330 says:

What is the over under for Lee in the primary?

    51% ?

  6. RickJ19958 says:

70%. And I’ll take the over on that.

  7. liberalgeek says:

    How about the general, RickJ?

  8. RSmitty says:

Oooo, I want to answer for RickJ: 70%, but under this time.

It took some nads for me to go out on a limb like that!

  9. Geezer says:

Nothing says change like a couple of 70-year-olds. The only things these guys are going to change are their Depends.

  10. RickJ19958 says:

The General will depend on how close a race it is for yout team. I suspect Carney will win, and there are many Markell voters who will side with Lee. Of course, if Markell does pull off the upset, the unions who backed Carney will hope Markell loses, so they can regain control of the party apparatus in 2012.

Either way, an uphill fight for my guy, but not an insurmountable one.

  11. UnionGal says:

At least Bill Lee had his fundraiser in Delaware.

“Ten days ago, Mayor Nutter was busy holding his own fund-raiser, his first since taking office. Come tomorrow, he’ll be the star attraction in a fund-raiser for another politico: Jack Markell, the Delaware state treasurer who is running for governor of the First State.

Nutter won’t have to cross any state lines, though. The event will be held at the Palm restaurant in Center City. Cost: $500 a person.
So why is Philadelphia’s mayor set upon helping the campaign of a fellow Democrat from Delaware?

“They’ve met in the past, but they’re not close friends,” said Andrew Roos, Markell’s campaign manager. As he explained it, Nutter will appear as a courtesy to some of the people hosting it.

They are some of Nutter’s old pals from his days as chairman of the Pennsylvania Convention Center Authority. Among them: Buck Riley, current Convention Center chairman; and Al Mezzaroba, its president.

Roos carefully noted that though Nutter will be a guest speaker supporting the event, that doesn’t mean anything more. “He’s there to be helpful and be friendly, but it’s not an endorsement.””

Nothing says change like an out-of-state $500-a-plate fundraiser. John Carney’s been taking the time to have free events for everyone in many towns. He’s the man of the people. Markell’s just trying to buy the election with his money and other out of state money.

  12. Yeah, Carney’s a man of the people the same way Ruth Ann is a MAN of the people. You know a thurMAN Adams of the people. These two have been bending over to that crypt-keeper too friggin’ long. Carney has done it in the Senate and he’ll do it if he’s elected governor.

    AMEN!!!!

“there are many Markell voters who will side with Lee”

    That’s a pipe dream.

“John Carney’s been taking the time to have free events for everyone in many towns.”

If he were a man of the people, he wouldn’t be so tightly tied to unions, which represent barely more than 1 in 10 Delaware workers. Face it, UnionGal — he’s not a man of the people, he’s a man of the public employees’ unions. Most of us view those people as the enemy — they are, after all, where the bulk of our tax money goes.
