CowardLee!

Filed in National by on July 21, 2008

Bill Lee tries to spin his efforts to duck a debate with Mike Protack in today’s Delaware State News.

Pusillanimouslee, the RETIRED judge states that his priorities are raising money, raising Republicans and raising media, but Drew Volturo does a good job pushing past Lee’s talking points and getting to the real reason:

From a pragmatic standpoint, we are not going to give Mike Protack face time. We don’t think he has any credibility.  – Bill Lee

Where are all the community organizations inviting Protack and Lee to debates, and complaining loudly when Lee doesn’t show?

I want to see a picture in the News Journal of Protack debating an empty chair at least once this season.

  2. so you are saying Protack IS credible?

  3. RickJ19958 says:

At his last public appearance, Protack got his butt handed to him by an invited guest.

In his interview this past Sunday, Protack suggested robbing the pension fund to pay for new programs.

Why would anyone want to stand next to him in a debate? Jackassery may be contagious.

  4. anon says:

It is a Republican truism that credibility is based on how much money you have.

  5. jason330 says:

    It is a political truism.

  6. Pandora says:

If Protack is such a jackass, why not debate him and finish him off once and for all?

  7. it’s a tough line to toe. On one hand you school the maroon, but on the other hand you put him on your level to an audience that doesn’t know him for his baffoonery.

Protack is trying the Miller lite tactic, act like he is in the same league as Budweiser and then he ascends up just by association.

Personally, I don’t think it could happen to a better party.

  8. RickJ19958 says:

If Protack is such a jackass, why not debate him and finish him off once and for all?

The man has lost a primary to the guy he’s running against by 55 points. He can’t raise money. He has been caught by the moderators of this and other sites engaging in sockpuppetry, and there is strong evidence that he either authored or tacitly approved the pink postcards that viciously slander his opponents. What makes you think he would respond to a verbal butt-kicking?

Lee treats him like you guys treat Rob Foraker – a crackpot who tilts at windmills.

  9. Rick,

I think it’s better to just stay out of the debate than to parrot the bullshit you’re offering. Lee should be debating. ‘Nuff said.

  10. Al Mascitti says:

    “Lee should be debating.”

Why? You act as if political debate were something other than kabuki theater.

  11. Al,

I don’t know what you’re deal is with this (as you commented the same on my blog), but I think his refusal says more about him than you’re letting on. Doesn’t matter where you stand; Lee should be debating. I think either of the Democrats could use this (rightly so) as ammunition in the general if he keeps this ridiculous act up.

  12. anon says:

What would Lee say if the Dem nominee refuses to debate?

  13. Al Mascitti says:

My deal with this is simple: Lee has nothing to gain and everything to lose. You’re pissing up a rope.

Further, Lee made clear what his deal is: He’s busy trying to raise money, because that’s what real candidates do. Debates won’t do that. In fact, given his apparent lack of grasp of detail, they would kill his campaign. If that’s what you want, just come out and say so. The truth, I suspect, is that if your candidate was ahead and stonewalled an unfunded candidate, you’d be OK with it. Or maybe not, because you’re nothing if not unconventional, Mike.

My further deal is this: Debates are pretty close to pointless, IMO. I really don’t care which candidate can debate better; it has nothing to do with doing the job. They’re entertaining, but not informative. You can look up a candidate’s positions on everything at his or her web site.

Finally, to sum up: Put Mike Protack in a debate and he sounds perfectly reasonable on issues. So would any number of people. Unless those people are capable of putting together even a rudimentary campaign, they have no chance of winning — nor, it could be argued, should they.

But, because I’m willing to debate anything, I”ve made this the question of the hour on the show. Call in, Mike!

  14. RickJ again is wrong, the Shot Spotter event was a huge success and that is what bothers Rick. The guy he mentions said Wilmington had no Gun Violence Problem, I think that says it all.

Al correctly points out Lee has little command of the facts or issues.

    Finally, Lee is a coward.

  15. The pink postcard thing still stands though Mike. Pretty shitty that you were involved in it….

  16. Also, Rick needs to call people who are looking for venture capital they like my idea.

No one is raiding anything and no one is using the funds for new programs. Rick knows this as a fact but again because Lee is a coward he has to try to prop up the guy.

I have proposed one half of one per cent (.5%) , hardly a huge number given the $6 billion in the account. Investing in local companies makes sense, how else is the Local economy going to expand?

Certainly not with DEDO as it exists and Lee has no plans at all. Now that you mention it, Lee has a great deal on his almost $100,000 pension doesn’t he?

  17. RSmitty says:

Mikey P, do you really think these guys (DeLib) care about you as a candidate? You are simply a promotion tool here, used in a delusional way to weaken the Republican ticket.

Oh wait, you do that, too.

Did you rectify that IPoD ticket debacle yet?

  18. anon says:

PROTACK to GOP: “I’d like to buy an argument.”

GOP: Shut your festering gob, you tit! Your kind really makes me puke!

PROTACK: Look, I came here for an argument!

GOP: Oh! I’m sorry! This is Abuse!

  19. smitty,

are you calling protack a dildo?

  20. RSmitty says:

    DT(H)B/DV asks,
    smitty,

are you calling protack a dildo?

    The Smitty responds,
You are simply a promotion tool here, used in a delusional way…

Are you referring to that segment? Well, if you all prefer the self-use of dildos, then I guess you could conclude that delusional use of a promotional tool just may be masterful use of said-dildo and on said-self and it can then be applied to the comment I made earlier. Not that I am saying you do (prefer self-mastery of use of said-dildo), but we may have heard something about you and this possibly only underscores it.

No, not calling him that. Dillweed, maybe, but not dildo.

  21. A pink dildo it is then…where should we ship that PINK dildo Mike?

It can be Delawareliberal’s gift to you. It could be a constant reminder of so many things

  22. Did Protack just outright call his opponent a coward? Mike, don’t you know that’s what your surrogates and sockpuppets are for?

  23. Sorry, Al. The cubicle gig meant I couldn’t call in today. Maybe tomorrow!

  24. can I make a joke about you in a cubicle?

  25. you coming to my BBQ man or what?

  26. Nah, have to work that day. I thought I replied with a negative? Did I not respond to the evite?

  27. liz allen says:

Pandora: Are you aware that incumbents rarely debate the challengers? Many incumbents use the lack of debate as a tool, they believe you don’t give your opponent any opportunity.

Protack is not a filed candidate in the republican party, he is not a candidate. I would hope after the primary the democrat will debate the republican. But there is absolutely no reason why Lee should debate Protack, the political prince of darkness, who has no issues he didnt take from someone else, or think himself so smart for coming up with “homeland security” techniques to incrementally steal more and more of civil liberties.

Are you aware this right wing nut doesnt even believe in a womens right to choose…he is so far to the right to be off the charts. If I were Lee he would get my middle finger.

  28. RickJ19958 says:

Why would it surprise anyone that Protack has slipped into namecalling? It’s what his sockpuppets have been doing since he started his quixotic run.

As for ShotSpotter Mike, you earlier used North Charleston, SC as a comparable success story. A quick look at N. Charleston’s crime stats tell a very different story than the one in ShotSpotter’s press pack – which seems to be the only research you’ve done on the matter.

    http://www.northcharleston.org/departments/publicsafety_crimestatistics.aspx

Shot Spotter was introduced in 2004. While Violent Crime dipped slightly that year (with twelve fewer firearms arrests), it now exceeds the 2003 numbers. 2006 and 2007 each had more than double the murders of 2003. There was an average of 50 more firearms offenses in the two years. The reported crimes to arrests ratio has remained at around the same rate, despite your brilliant plan being instituted.

You said on the radio today that you are beating Lee in among Primary Voters in your poll. Release those numbers, and all the raw data from a professional polling group, and I’ll see that your filing fee is raised.

    More lunacy from Protack:
“Also, Rick needs to call people who are looking for venture capital they like my idea.”

Of course they do! You’re suggesting that $30 million in state pension funds be used as venture capital! If I wanted a pile of money, I’d want more piles being handed out too!
    *****
“No one is raiding anything and no one is using the funds for new programs.”

Is there an existing program that uses pension funds as venture capital? No? Then we have a new program. Are there remarkably strict guidelines as to how pension funds can be invested, that would likely run contrary to your initiative? Yes? Then any use of those funds would be raiding the pensions.

I have no idea what Bill Lee’s pension for 23 years as a judge is, and neither do you. It sounds like because your company mismanaged your pension, you feel like no one deserves to get one. You clearly resent Lee for earning his, and you’re willing to risk the pensions of every state employee to curry the favor of the voters.

  29. Liz,

The real question is: Will Lee debate Protack when Protack does file. You, as a good, open government person, I would think would demand that of Lee.

  30. The comment stands, Lee is a coward and is not up on the issues. No need to use surrogates to say what every body knows. DSEA, despite its partisanship was accurate.

I find it humorous you attach a post card effort to me based on the findings of a guy who was threatening subpoenas and FBI involvement before he was banished to obscurity. If you notice, the cards were reported to stop after that person said “Delaware wasn’t ready” for him.

Ask Lee what are his proposals for health care? for transportation? for educaiton? for pollution? for renewable energy? for anything?

  31. Mike,

You need to friggin’ chill. As much as Lee should be up there debating everyone, I think he should also point out at that podium that one of his opponents called him a “coward.” Mike, obviously you haven’t learned yet. It’s us nasty pundits who are supposed to lob such ridiculous accusations and not candidates who wish to be taken seriously. Oh, wait…oops.

  32. And by the way, Mike. Didn’t you do the same thing to Burris as Burris did to me? Did you not threaten Dave & Co. with a lawsuit for insinuating you were behind those post cards? Where’s the lawsuit, Mike? I’m guessing it’s right next to my subpoena that Dave promised me!

  33. RickJ19958 says:

I believe, Mr. Protack, that you threatened him with a lawsuit after that happened. What were the results of that slam-dunk case?

I’m pretty sure the tech-heads here confirmed Dave’s evidence against you, so perhaps I should ask them, since they no doubt were deposed in the trial.

**EDIT – slow typing, and Mike Matthews chewed you up first.

  34. yes, you did, my bad. FYI though this thing goes past midnight. The bonfire lights up at dawn

  35. Andy says:

I have proposed one half of one per cent (.5%) , hardly a huge number given the $6 billion in the account. Investing in local companies makes sense, how else is the Local economy going to expand?

Don’t think the Feds would allow it the GA contributed a large sum to the plan a few years ago to complym with Federal Laws concerning funding and I would imagine that their funding is awful close to that limit

  36. anonymous says:

Protack lost to Lee at the GOP Convention in Dewey and LEE WASN’T EVEN THERE. That was over 250 delegates from around the state and Lee, who HADN’T EVEN SAID HE’D ACCEPT and wasn’t even in the state, took over 80% of the vote.

The only thing Protack can win is the endorsement of 3 unelected IPOD members in a pizza place in Millsboro, but Protack considers that an honorable endorsement and the GOP Convention and it’s hundreds of delegates meaningless. Let’s face it, if IPOD had an actual convention, Protack would never had gotten the nomination, the only way he could get it was by stealing it from the party’s faithful.
