Biden: The Healer

Filed in National by on August 27, 2008

Joe Biden has quietly become a very popular pick among rank-and-file Democrats.

“I’m very content with Biden,” said Dean Boerste , a Clinton delegate from Tell City, Ind. “He’s done a lot for working-class people, and he has a lot of great foreign-policy experience.”

“The party was already coming together,” Levin said. “This will help speed up and strengthen that process.”

  1. Benjamin says:

My mom, who is European, lives in Europe, does not speak English and had never heard of him until last Saturday, told me that what struck her was his smile.
“He looks quite charming” she said, giggling like a schoolgirl.

Andrew Sullivan is right. Biden is “your mom’s boyfriend”.

Quite an ovation for WJC! Nearly 5 minutes!

  3. Dorian Gray says:

“Actually, that makes 18 million of us.” Nice line. William Jefferson still brings it strong!

    The Biden speech rundown:

    • 10:28 – Anyone who thinks Beau Biden isn’t being groomed, look and weep. Gotta say though, he cuts a Kennedyesque character on national TV; thought he did a good job characterizing Biden as America’s wise granddad.
    • 10:32 – Oh, I KNOW he didn’t just go over and shake John Kerry’s–well, plan to see that on Fox News a lot in the coming weeks… “Thank you, John Kerry” – Really… really?
    • 10:35 – Nice to see him mend fences with the Clintons on behalf of Obama.
    • 10:37 – DAMN! Joe Biden’s MOM is still ALIVE??!??
    • 10:38 – Joe Biden’s mama said knock you out. And apparently, give you a bloody nose.
    • 10:45 – “That’s not change – that’s more of the same” – Okay, I get it already….. “These times require more than a good soldier; they require a wise leader.” – I expect this might blow back on him a little, even if it’s true.
    • 10:48 – I know the conventions are essentially gigantic pep rallies, but I was kind of hoping for some more in-depth foreign policy disc–
    • 10:49 – Oh okay, here we go. Nice.
    • 10:53 – McCain should have stayed on the Straight-Talk Express instead of trying to throw in his towel with Bush & Co. (that 95 percent voting record with Bush is going to hurt him); Joe Biden is a motherf*ckin’ junkyard DOG.

  6. Biden brought it. Good stuff!

I know the conventions are basically massive pep rallies, and I was hoping for a little more in-depth foreign policy talk, but it was nice to see him get in the dig about Afghanistan/Pakistan being the “real front” in the war on terror. I would have liked him to take it a step further and accuse Bush of opening up another front with Iraq, but maybe another time…
