Comment Rescue: Newbie Suze Lays It Down

The point is that Sara Palin wants to legislate teaching abstinence. Her daughter is a prime example of how it doesn’t work, so she’s fair game. My one question to Palin would be, “How’s that abstinence program workin for ya?” I love how conservatives follow the “do as I say,not as I do philosophy-no hypocrisy there!

Perhaps I’m focusing on an irrelevant issue, but the presence, or non-presence, of Johnston on the stage tonight strikes me as important. It’s one thing for delegates to be understanding and compassionate about the fix these two teenagers have gotten themselves into. It’s another to actually celebrate it. And, given what we’ve learned in the last few days, if Johnston is up on stage with his girlfriend and the Palin family, and Republicans are wildly cheering, it will certainly look like they are celebrating this situation.

I don’t usually engage in these scenarios, but I’ll do it here. If the Obamas had a 17 year-old daughter who was unmarried and pregnant by a tough-talking black kid, my guess is if that they all appeared onstage at a Democratic convention and the delegates were cheering wildly, a number of conservatives might be discussing the issue of dysfunctional black families.

Commenting Comments

A little behind the scenes brew ha ha is brewing in the Delaware blogosphere because some commenters are getting the shitty end of the stick.   I will not pretend to know all the technical ins and outs of this thing, but here is the little bit I’ve been able to gleen from being on the receiving end of a few edgy emails.

It seems that Nancy Willing, and Liz Allen (perhaps more) have been prevented from commenting on this and other wordpress blogs like Down With Absolutes.  They assumed that someone with adminstrative privlidges here had blacklisted them (which was a fair (albeit hasty) asumption I guess, given my hairtrigger banning policies*).  But that didn’t explain Mike, because he has an ironclad non-banning policy.

 It is possible that someone (this is conjecture) submitted their posting info to WordPress as spammers.

I don’t know for sure, but I can say with a very high degree of confidence that whoever had them blacklisted way up on high was not a DL contributor.  How do I know this?

Like I said, I have a hair trigger banning policy – but my fellow editors are loathe to ban people.  And I know that I didn’t do it so…there you have it.   It is regrettable and I hope someone gets to the bottom if it.

*For the record, my personal policy is idiosyncratic but consistent.  I have banned people for boring me by reciting wingnut talking points and for making overly crude comments that are not funny but are intended to inflict actual harm.  My rational is that I get my fill of wingnut talking points from the evening news so I don’t need it here and as the t-shirt says, “Mean people suck.”

Palin Was Not Vetted

The simple fact of the matter is that McCain paniced and picked Palin to shore up the rightwing lunatic vote.

it is well known that McCain only spoke to Palin once, but it now turns out that the campaign only spoke to her once.

John McCain’s vice presidential vetting team until last Wednesday in Arizona, the day before McCain asked her to be his running mate, and she did not disclose the fact that her 17-year-old daughter was pregnant until that meeting,

The McCain vetting team arrived in Alaska on the day she accepted.

In fact, a McCain team didn’t even arrive in Alaska to investigate Palin’s background until Thursday, the day she accepted the running mate offer and a day before she was introduced to the nation and world as McCain’s VP selection.

According to ROLL CALL, just prior to the being surprised by being asked to join the ticket, even Palin said that the questions she was asked did not rise to the level of a vetting.

The bottom line is that McCain lost his grip and made a snap decision based on …who knows what?

Private Sector Analogy

Let’s suppose that Warren Buffett were doing some succession planning.  On Friday afternoon, he announced that if he were to die, a district manager for Borsheim’s Jewelry (one of his holdings) would take over as CEO.

If, as the weekend progressed, stories came out about questionable business practices and personal decisions by this district manager,  what do you think would happen to Berkshire Hathaway’s $119,940/share stock price on Monday morning?  How about at the shareholder meeting scheduled for the following Tuesday through Thursday?  Would they revolt?

If the Denver Police had teargassed and beaten docile crowds outside of the Dems Convention, I wonder if the national press would have covered it?

She believes the Iraq War and a $30 billion oil pipeline are part of God’s plan, so she asks her congregation to pray for it.   Not to end suffering in this world, not to end poverty, not to end war and disease and hate.  No, Sarah Fucking Palin asks her congregation to pray for war and oil. 

I am speechless.   Also, I see that some of the theocrat batshit insane right wing are now praying that McCain gets elected only because they want God to smite him and allow Palin to be our President.

That alone should scare you shitless.
