Markell Town Meeting – Nice Lead Time

Filed in Delaware by on December 15, 2008

From the press release.

Governor-elect Jack Markell will host a public town hall meeting, Tuesday, December 16, to solicit ideas from Delawareans as to how his administration can make state government as effective and efficient as possible. Due to the national economic downturn, Delaware is facing significant revenue shortfalls over the next two fiscal years, and Gov.-elect Markell is looking for innovative, out-of-the-box ideas to cut spending.

The meeting will be held from 5 to 6:30 p.m. in the DART/DTC auditorium on 119 Lower Beech St., which is in the Wilmington Riverfront area.

Please feel free to share this invitation with persons who you think would be interested in attending.

One day notice and it starts at 5PM. WTF? Some of us have lives and a job.

  1. I’ve known about this meeting for at least a week. This isn’t the first announcement.

  2. nemski says:

My first . . . Got the two Thanksgiving announcement and then this.

  3. Anon2 says:

This just in…Dennis Rochford is OUT! Announcement coming today.

  4. I believe that this meeting was mentioned in the announcement of last week’s meeting. I *think* I also saw it on the transition web site and likely in the normal media coverage.

  5. RSmitty says:

Nemski…you aren’t conferring with the crumbs in your beard again (to those who don’t know…nemski’s beard crumbs are akin to reading the tea leaves). MM is right, this location, time and date have been known since last week, at a minimum. I know this, because I looked at my schedule to see if I could make it.

  6. RSmitty says:

Wait…I think I got it. Was this your first EMAILED notice???

  7. nemski says:

Guess I’m not in the “know”.

  8. nemski says:

    Yes, it was RSmitty.

  9. I got this email today, but I got previous emails about a week or two ago. The first meeting like this was last week. Was definitely announced way earlier.

  10. Anon2 says:

The public meeting was announced at least a week ago. One has already been held downstate….and reported on. This press release is just a reminder.

  11. RSmitty says:

Oh bearded one (Nemski) – you think I am in the know? Dude…look how easy Mahaffie found out about it.

    Hee hee!!!

Hey DE LIB contributors not named Nemski! I think I discovered the root of the “Lazy Liberal” stigma you have to deal with! He doesn’t even consult with the beard crumbs any more! Oh, Nemski. We still love you, bro.

    😛

  12. nemski says:

    Okay . . . . okay . . . so it was announced at least last week.

    Still 5:00PM? That’s a bit ridiculous.

  13. RSmitty says:

Show up late and tell him it was his fault. That can be point #1 to a better government! Then ask him where in the F was your timely email? Better communication – point #2.
    (/snarky)

  14. nemski says:

I’m bringing an extra shoe. 😉

  15. Smarter Than Donviti says:

I even knew about it. I guess that makes me smarter than nemski, too.

  16. you obviously don’t read the blog. I think geek or jason mentioned it last week.

you must have been too busy on facebook

  17. Joanne Christian says:

    Nemski, they even told me.

My beef is scheduling these darn things around the holidays….all holidays. There.. keep your sandals on dirty hippies.

  18. Kilroy says:

Old news ! Would have been better for a Saturday Morning! Apprenly the first meeting had little turnout and mostly state workers!

His website is open for suggesting!

I am a little pissed because I would like to know who the next Secretary of Education is! I thought the transit needs are now not after he get’s in office! Last dam thing we need is the current Secretary of Education on the payroll as a consultant after she retires at the end of January! It would be like asking George Bush to hang around to show Obama the ropes!

Joanne, I cc: you in on an E-mail to the state legislators re: Skipper’s lack of knowledge about the Delaware State Constitution Article X, Section 6. Dude needs to stick to banking !

  19. liz says:

I thought it was a really good meeting. And Jack was on time. People offered from very good suggestions on saving money. I like Jack! I watched him very carefully and listened intently to his answers.
At least he has made himself available and truly appeared to care about everyone’s issues.

And unlike Ruthie and her freaking cards to write your question down (so her staff can pick the easiest to answer) Jack allowed us to put our hand up and speak from the floor.

He like Obama have a multitude of problems, and we are all going to take a lot heat while the economy melts down.
