Gingrich Repudiates Gingrich

Filed in National by on December 16, 2008

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich is the latest Republican with his finger in the wind to blast his own party’s national committee for their efforts to somehow tie President-elect Obama to the pay-to-play scandal in Illinois.

Ben Smith has the letter Gingrich wrote to the RNC:

“I was saddened to learn that at a time of national trial, when a president-elect is preparing to take office in the midst of the worst financial crisis in over seventy years, that the Republican National Committee is engaged in the sort of negative, attack politics that the voters rejected in the 2006 and 2008 election cycles.”

Yes, the exact sort of negative, attack politics that Gingrich created and practiced his entire political existence.

Gingrich is probably getting a big platform now because he was leading the Republicans when they were ascendant.

That is a good point. However, I subscribe to the notion that hyprocrisy normally disqualifies.

  10. David says:

Gingrich attacked people who really were corrupt. Your notion of hyprocrisy doesn’t apply because truth is the ultimate defense.

Even so hyprocrisy is not a dirty word as you use it. It would be called growth. Hyprocrisy is the force which makes us align our values with our actions. “All men are created equal” was hyprocritical. That was a good thing. It was the truth whether or not we followed it perfectly. The recognition of the truth made us grow.

It is the people not willing to stretch to the higher standard who are a problem.
