Feroce is Locked and Loaded

One of my favorite DP wingnuts writes: Something’s not right. We're going to have to listen to Blagojevich/Obama nonsense for the next four years. God, if someone commits suicide in…

We Have Exceeded Epic Fail.

I love the phrase "Epic Fail" and the accompanying pictures of failure attached to it.   Thus, this is my favorite blogosphere reaction to the Blagojevich scandal so far. Coates: Incredible.…

The Pragmatic Obama

Long ago at Daily Kos, I diagnosed the basic divide in the Democratic Party in particular and on the left in general.  It is not Liberal v. Moderate or Conservative.   It is Purist v. the Pragmatist (or if your Dana Garrett or Mike Matthews, it is Principled v. Partisan Hacks).   It is a divide that arises not from the What, but the How.    It suffices to say that, at least among those who call themselves liberals and/or progressives here at Delaware Liberal, we all long for progressive change and liberal policies being advocated at every level of the executive.  The Purists among us are alarmed and are critical at what they see as disappointing cabinet choices from President-elect Obama.   The Pragmatic among us are either not alarmed at all, or are adopting a wait and see approach.

I think Booman bests describes my view on the cabinet appointments that are so disconcerting to Purists:

Bush Recession of 2001: Just The Facts

Now before you get start reading this post, I did not include all the different things that were being done to fix the economy or the many positive numbers that were coming out of 2000. I just focused on signs that the economy was slowing down and Bush’s plan to fix it. I looked at New York Times articles from June 2000 to Inauguration Day in 2001.

This is a blatant attempt to fortify liberals with ammunition against the Bush revisionists who cannot and will not take responsibility for the Recession of 2001. Yes, the signs were there that a slow down was imminent, even occurring in different segments of the economy. However, the job of the President and his administration is to mitigate those economic slow downs, so they don’t turn into a recession.

Economies are cyclic, but the economy does not have to go into a recession as part of a slow down. Just look at the administrations of Kennedy, Johnson and Clinton to see years without recessions.

The question I come away with all of this is how much notice did the Bush Campaign and then Transition Team need in order to move the economy in the correct direction?  I believe eight months is enough time.

Wow. Blago was truly corrupt.

He must resign immediately.   (Hey Dana, Blago is an example of an embarrassment to liberalism, not me). Here are some new details from Blago's attempt to sell Obama's Senate seat,…

What I’m Reading

Reading is good, it is one of those things more people, like the host of idiots that come over here and try to spin each and every post that points out the irony, hypocrisy, recklessness, and out right bullshit of the GOP and it’s supporters.  People like them don’t read books, because they get all they need to know from reading the NRO, watching FOX news.  They are told not to read papers and books written by NYTimes pulitzer prize winning journalist, nobel prize winning economists etc.  Those people are dumb and biased.    Here is another book they won’t read.  It would educate them about the citizens of Afghanistan and Iraq.  It would tell them what they need to know about how those people (yes I said those) view Americans, how they view war, how they view each other in battle and how they view Americans in their country on their soil.  Sort of important things to know really, so when you are watching/listening a blonde bobblehead read a telemprompter and are dazzled by her insane reading ability and uncomparable brilliance you will stop yourself and say, “Hey, what she just said is complete bullshit”. But alas, why bother to read and learn on your own.  Support the war, put a magnet on your car and talk down people against it.

The Forever War by Dexter Filkins: Book Cover

Pick up “THE FOREVER WAR”. Believe it or not daughter #2 had it on her summer reading list, she never finished it because she didn’t like the violence in it. Unbeknowst to me it was on the NY Times 10 best books of the year.
