Comment Rescue: Complete Nonsense

Coryan just announced it on cspan this morning…and yes he said, “we have republican in the house who is going to run for the Senate, that is Mike Castle of Delaware”. Now you tell me where you get your stamp it, book it, file it?

Here is how the wishful thinking went down:

Delaware’s Senate seat could be in play in 2010, at least if the Senate Republicans’ leading recruiter has his way.

In an interview for C-SPAN “Newsmakers,” National Republican Senatorial Committee Chairman John Cornyn said he had been chatting with Delaware congressman Michael Castle, and that he is “considering” running for the Senate.

“What I think is interesting is the opportunities President Obama and Vice President Biden have given us,” Cornyn said. “We’ve got Joe Biden’s seat in Delaware where a guy like Mike Castle, a very successful two-term GOP governor, a very popular individual, is considering the race.”

Castle, a leading Republican moderate, has comfortably won re-election since first winning the House seat in 1992. He served as the state’s governor from 1984-1992.

Outside of Castle, Republicans don’t have much of a bench in the state.

That last part is the understatement of the century. The rest of it is pure gibberish and posturing.

Castle has not run a real race in 20 years. He will be 99 years old for that election and, time and again, he has knuckled under to the right wing of his party

He would be demolished trying for a Seate seat and he knows it. His career is built on being given elections, and the Dems are not going to just give away a Senate seat.

Unless Tom Carper cranks his mafia Don powers to 11, some perennial loser punching bag like Mike Protack or Charlie Copeland will be the GOP challenger for that seat.

Take it to the bank.
Endorse it.
Cash it.
And buy yourself something nice.

BTW – I love this comment from the Politico post:

As a “leading moderate”, Castle must have voted for the stimulus package. Oh, wait…

That puts a bow on it.

  2. Delaware Dem says:

2 years out from a race against Beau Biden, Castle, if he was really going to run, would have already set up an exploratory committee and would already be raising money hand over fist for the race, especially considering he would be running against a youthful son of a Vice President who also hails from this state.

Indeed, he would be raising money hand over fist right now if he was going to run for reelection to the House, especially since he will have a tough opponent this time in John Carney.

No, he will retire, but not before screwing with the national GOP. I love it.

You are way too optimistic. Watch Carper help Castle run for the seat. Carper doesn’t care – he is a LIEberman lover after all – and Carney would probably listen if Carper told him not to run.

Delaware kept re-electing Roth until he was a starry old nooge. I think they’d elect Castle to the seat unless the Dems can find a star to run – and Beau ain’t no star.

Jason, you are all of da man, but I wouldn’t take that post to the bank any more than I took Castle’s “apology” to you to be sincere. I told you then he was posturing for a senate run.

  4. jason330 says:

The Delaware way doe-si-doe has taken Caper and Castle pretty far, but I don’t think even Carper has the juice to keep Castle safe next time.

If he doesn’t land a think tank gig or an ambassadorship in the next two years I say Castle retires.

    Boil it.
    Butter it.
And slap it on a ding dong!

  5. anonone says:

    Beau Biden versus Mike Castle?

    “Entitlement” versus “Experience”

    Castle wins walking away…

Sorry, I hope I am wrong, but this IS Delaware…

  6. jason330 says:

    Nah Gah Happen.

You’ll hear this nonsense talk about Castle running, but the good news is that you will not have to read Celia Cohen’s her sly asides and knowing smirks.

Jason please put down your crystal ball. The fix has been in….

Just got this in: Kay Sebelius maybe next Health and Social Services Secretary. Before she ran for Gov. she was the Insurance commish and actually took on Blue Cross….

Biden, Carper have been in on it…why do you think NO one can beat him. There is literally no candidate in Delaware who is fixed at the hips, the throat and the head as Castle is to the big bankster/gangsters. Beau is young…has all the time in the world.

I would LOVE to see Karen Weldin Stewart run for governor. That would be the best damn campaign EVER. At least the most entertaining.

This just in as well, and it aint nothing nice.

Obama is going to pick Mark Geitenstein as USDOJ, Office of Legal Policy. This republican looney tune was with the “Chamber” for decades as a lobbyist!!!! Does this mean that Obama is picking a Tort-DEFORMER! Who the hell is on Obama’s vetting team…what is with all these lobbyists and republicans…this is embarassing to say the least.

  10. Unstable Isotope says:

To back up Jason, 538 also thinks it is unlikely that Castle will run for the seat.

One funny thing I read is that the Republicans are now pitching Kovach (!) as the next big thing. This is the guy who won the 6th special election in December. Their bench must be very, very thin indeed if they are pitching a newbie. I think Kovach may have trouble hanging on to his seat.

RE: Obama/Gertenstein:…. keep your friend close and your enemy closer.

RE: DEGOP: From my point of view the local R’s are not so much the party of $$$ any more but it sure is one hell of a boy’s club.

Only one half of the party is ever considered as candidate material. They could groom some smart women. (But)FIRST they’d have to unload PR (she’s been there so long she’s like one of the boys).

My humble opinion: worth what you paid for it. 🙂
