Deep Swine Flu Thought

Filed in National by on April 27, 2009

1) Thank God Barack Obama is the President and not some idiot Republican.

2) As the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) takes steps to deal with this crisis, the DHHS cabinet secretary confirmation is being held up by Republican abortion ideologues.

Thanks Republicans!

My deep swine flu thought is this: there is nothing really of interest happening in the news right now, at least not for the “average joe,” so the media is latching on to something that will scare people enough that they watch their programming to find out more, thus helping their ratings. Kind of like SARS, West Nile, and Bird Flu…..

  2. meatball says:

Bird flu killed like 250 people out of 6 billion.

  3. idiot R seems redundant

  4. Maria Evans says:

The DHHS position was also “held up” by Obama’s first pick, Tom Daschle, having to drop out due to profound sketchiness.

honestly in a fast moving pandemic foe which there is no cure or vaccine, what can he do? if there was a flu like this 6 years away, I’d feel confident Obama would be the type of president who could push to get us ready, but if “the big one” has arrived, i don’t see how he is any different than an Evangelical who is hoping the Rapture is upon us.

There isn’t a pandemic yet — but what any government can do is to move to provide support in getting medicine and other public health services in place to possibly ward off a pandemic. Certainly we have a President who will do more than just pray for the people who get sick.

These ladies document how Susan Collins blocked pandemic flu prep from the Recovery Act.

  7. pandora says:

I was just telling Mr. P. this morning that Republicans have bad Karma. Jindal bashes volcano monitoring and Mt. Redoubt erupts. Susan Collins blocks pandemic flu prep – while Republicans call it pork – and Swine Flu appears.

Being wrong is no longer limited to what they’ve done, it’s now what they predict! Ouch!

  8. Unstable Isotope says:

    pandora,

I had the exact same thought about Republican karma this morning! I feel like I should knock on wood or something. We better check to see what else the Republicans took out of the stimulus as the next bad thing that’s going to happen.

At least we know they didn’t take away any kind of missle defense….being nuked would really suck! :-).
